Beautiful East Sea holiday ”
Mid-October my family stayed in the Beach Cruise in the Oceanfront Terrace Twin Room. Large clean room with table & kitchenette, big bathtub next to patio window that kids played in, spacious patio with patio furniture and beautiful view of the sunrise over the sea. Ate most meals on patio. The kitchenette was new yet disappointing because no tablewear was provided and the burners are not yet operational. Luckily we brought food that could be easily microwaved & stored in the fridge, but wish we had known in advance about the inoperational kitchenette. The advantages to staying at the Beach Cruise instead of the Sun Cruise are beautiful view of the sea and sun rise, the elevator access directly to the beach (no access besides driving or very long walk down from Sun Cruise), the indoor swimming pool (Sun Cruise doesn’t have one), the outdoor infinity pool was still operational, and skywalk access to the Sun Cruise. The coastal hike from Sun Cruise parking lot was gorgeous!
What a view!”
Amazing! We spent our honeymoon here and was so rewarded! The view alone justifies the price. The staff was friendly and accomodating. However, the sunrise in the morning is one of those once in a lifetime things to see. The restaurant was fine and there are so many thing to do at this "ship" hotel. Will do again! Thank you Sun Cruise Resort and Yacht.
Best place to stay for a beautiful sunrise”
Though located slightly inconveniently on a cliff, the location offers a great view of the sea and the sunrise. Travelers traveling by public transport would be happy to know that bus 109 travels between Gangneung bus terminal and Sun Cruise Resort every 1-2 hours, the travel journey is about 40-50mins. Shuttle bus services are also available between the resort and Jeongdongjin train station in the evening. Most of the hotel staff are able to converse in English so communication is definitely not a problem. Rooms are huge and clean too. I would definitely stay here again during my next visit to Gangneung.
The Sun Cruise Resort - a must visit in South Korea”
From the train trip starting in Seoul to the moment we sadly left, there was not one disappointment. We stayed in the Sun Cruise Yacht in a Deluxe Room. The view was magnificent, the room luxurious with the biggest bath facing the ocean. Famous for it's sunrises, early mornings are worth it just to watch the sun rise over the ocean. Staff at the hotel are super friendly and helpful and so many speak English which is a huge plus. Delicious breakfasts are a,great way to start the day and a short cab trip into the small town of Jeongdongjin for dinner will round off your day. All in all a trip to remember and I can't wait to return when next I visit Seoul.
Couples Retreat”
My Wife and I spent 3 days 2 nights at the Sun Cruise Resort. It is an amazing place to stay for couples, or anyone for that matter, looking for a quiet place away from the city. There isn't much to do in the town at the bottom of the hill, which is a 15 - 20 min walk. If you are looking for something to do you will have to take the train or cab in to Gangneung. We stayed there in the off season, the end of August beginning of September. The weather was amazing, the sun was out all 3 day and in the 80s the whole time. The restaurant in the Hotel was good. Not a wide selection due to the fact they try to satisfy eastern and western visitors. The prices are kind of high for the portions. We had an amazing time and would definitely recommend it for anyone and everyone. We will return given the chance.
Great hotel to watch the sunrise”
We visited the Sun Cruise Resort and Yacht with a couple of friends to watch the sunrise. The hotel itself was amazing and also a great place to watch the sunrise in the morning. Will definitely visit again and stay there as our stay this time was rather short.
The enviornment around Sun Cruise is excellent”
I went to Sun Cruise with my family from Soeul and stayed there for one night. Although it took 3 hours bus to Gangneung and needed to ride bus 109 for nearly 1 hour to Sun Cruise, it was worth to live there. We booked a family room and the charge is just a bit more than that. We find this hotel value for money. The ocean view is very very good and the hotel shape and the surrounding park is excellent. We took a lot of photos there in the afternoon despite no sun shine and had seafood dinner near the seaside down the hotel. We also played fireworks at the beach and chated with Koreans and Hong Kong visitors. It was a pity that there was no shuttle bus from seaside to hotel and we needed to walk up the hill for 20 minutes. Although one of the staff (a lady) at counter is not very friendly but another (a boy) was very good. The hotel room is comfortable and clean. We watched sunrise at 5:50am and sleep again afterwards. We woke up at 9:00 am and took photos around the hotel in the morning as there was sunshine. The surronding parks and scenes were very very beautiful and we enjoyed very much staying around the hotel.
Don't stay anywhere else!!!”
We had seen this hotel and initially planned just to visit it during our stay but thankfully we decided to splash out and book a room here and we were so glad we did. You only need one night here to fully appreciate it and it is so much fun. There are lovely gardens to walk around, a revolving coffee car at the top and the ship plays a chime every morning 20 minutes before sunrise so you can get up and watch the magnificent sunrise in the sculpture park. the hotel is up quite a big hill from the town so you are best to take everything you need and just stay here for you stay. There is a small supermarket in the hotel and bakery and there is stove in your room so we had a very enjoyable home cooked spagetti dinner to save on our budget. Some reviews mention that it is hard to get to the Suncruise without your own transport, we managed fine. We arrived from Samcheok via the seaside train (booked by tourist info booth in Samcheok), took a taxi to the Suncruise from the train station (W4,000) and then took the bus which goes from the car park in front of the Suncruise to Gangneung Express and Intercity bus stations (40 mins W2,000) for our onward bus to Daegu. This hotel is just fantastic, we loved every second of the novelty of being in a ship on land, we booked a garden view room which had no balcony, but it was at the very front of the ship with a magnificent sea, garden and sunrise view. It is expensive but well worth the price if you enjoy novelty hotels like we do.
Nice rooms, Great staff, Hard beds! ”
The reception staff was very courteous, spoke very good English, and had us in our room in minutes. The room was spacious and clean. The only downside was that the beds felt like sleeping on a box-spring. Unfortunately there was no beach access from this beachside resort. I think it may have been due to expansion at the foot of the hill, but beach access was one of our main reasons for choosing the location. Also, the hotel is several kilometers south fro the heart of the city of Gangneung-si. There is a small resort town at the foot of the resort, but it is not Gangneung-si proper. Overall, the rooms are a bit high for the location but the cool factor of staying in a cruise ship hotel on the side of the hill makes it worthwhile!
Wonderful break”
We had a great time, the hotel is immaculate, great location up on the hill so brilliant sea views and sunrises. There is even an alarm 20 mins before so you know when to get up. Just like being on a cruise without the seasickness. All staff extremely helpful and considerate, spoke very good English and took good care of us. When my husbands camera fell over the man running the bakery was very concerned, the next day he asked us again if the camera was ok. Those reviews on here that complain about the walk up or down and the need for a shuttle bus, I understand their point, but we felt it better to support the local economy and use taxis to get around. The revolving bar has good views too, you can order food up there instead of going to the restaurant eg fried chicken or pizza. We also ate in the restaurant, good service and prices as you expect for a nice hotel like this. The supermarket in the basement is packed with all the food and drinks you need for your stay too. The surrounding gardens are well maintained and contain lots of sculptures, so bring your camera! I would go back there again definitely.
Strange but fun hotel”
The cheesy seagull noises and ship horn over the speakers just makes you laugh at the silliness of the cruise ship hotel, but you can't beat the views of the East Sea from the rooms. It is amazing to watch the sunrise in the morning. The rooms were comfortable, but not fancy. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and not as hard as most Korean hotel beds.
Nice hotel with great views ”
We really enjoyed our stay at Sun Cruise Resort. The views are amazing! The hotel is clean and our room was very comfortable. We had a garden view room from which we not only saw the beautiful grounds, but also the ocean.
One of the most unique hotels I've stayed in!”
This was a very neat hotel! I had never heard of a yacht being built on land as a hotel idea until this, and it was very cool to stay in. The views of the mountains and the beach were incredible, and the gardens were beautiful! The prices were a little expensive, but it was worth it for the experience! Local seafood was good, and in the summer this would be a great beach resort with a pool.
Crazy!”
What a stunning hotel. A cruise liner perched on a cliff top overlooking the East Sea. Crazy! But perfect too. An intriguing blend of stunning coastal location with not just a nautical themed hotel but a proper liner, with propellers and all! The sunrise and moonrise is not to be missed
Nice view, nice quality”
This Hotel has 2 buildings named 'Sun Cruise' and 'Beach Cruise'. Beach Cruise is new building. is Awesome. but old one is also good because recently remodeled. Will be good if u come with ur lovers.
Beautiful, exceeded expectations ”
You enter the hotel to the smell of fresh baked goods and an expansive view to the sea below. The infinity pool is inviting and the front desk staff welcoming. The room was fresh and clean in its white linens. Dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant were delicious and the convenience store well stocked for snacking. The highlight was the complementary catamaran ride to get a glimpse of the hotel in all its glory from the sea. We stayed on a week night which made the price considerably less.
Stunning, relax, great environment”
Satisfying.. Impress with the hotel surrounding, relax, enjoy the view and the room.. Hopefully next time reception can explain to their guests who wish to take the yacht ride that they should have ask the availability at 9am at the counter and tell them also the last ride time...
Great hotel view to not miss”
The view of hotel and even the ocean view from room is very good. Beds are very comfirtable. AC in room is not good and service provided in room should be more to say as 5 star hotel stay. Yacht availability should have been updated in website.
A uniquely-designed hotel with great ocean views.”
Although it was a relative short stay (checked-in in the evening and checked-out early in the morning), it was memorable because of the uniqueness of the hotel in a form of a cruise ship atop a cliff! If you'd taken the "sea-view" rooms, you'd be rewarded with a great beach and ocean view. It's just a great place to leave the world behind and rejuvenate in the calmness of the ocean-side.
Luxuary”
We stayed in the newer Beach Cruise section in a terrace twin for 1 night. The rooms are huge and we had 2 kind size beds. Very clean and lots of extras like toiletries, Nespresso coffee machine and free mini bar. I thought there was a spa in the room looking out at the water but this turned out to just be a bath. After 1 night we upgraded to the same size room but with private pool. The main out door pools we're not yet opened even though it was 30 deg Celsius. There was only an indoor pool which is only open in the morning and late afternoon. There are also rooms with pool access but they share one larger pool to around 10 rooms. Having a private pool is much nicer. We had breakfast each morning in the restaurant for 20,000 won each. The food was good with a great variety. The only thing we didn't like about the hotel is it's location as we found the variety of food in the nearby town very limiting. Most serve sashimi at 200,000 won which is just ridiculous to an Australian.
