Needs money spent on the rooms”
This place has a ridiculously grand entrance way and the money used would have been much better spent on the rooms. We were there in the winter and the heating was barely sufficient and we had to get extra blankets that should have been in the room in the first place. The beds were hard. No kettle in the room for hot drinks. No shower curtain in the small bathroom which got soaked during a shower. Basic breafast. This is the highest resort in Oman and the drive to it is picturesque. With some money spent on it in the right way this could be a much more pleasant place to stay. Fortunately, they don't overcharge for what's on offer.
Worst mattress ever”
Careful to the pictures: the tent is a tent without any break walls. That means that is freezing in January, when we went there. There were a small heater but couldn’t help. The blanket was short and mattress was resembling cement. To go to the toilet you need to step outside, not specified in the description. Overall worst night we had in our journey in Oman
Great location but freezing”
The location is at an amazing place. You get to see more than you ask for of the grand canyon. The road is not paved hence it is very hard to get, make sure you reach there before sunset. On the way still has lot to see so its worth it. It gives both great view of sunset and sunrise. We went during winter time, Jan 2018. The place had small heater which wasn’t quite enough. So better take every warm clothes you have in your household. We first booked the tent but it wasnt quite a good option for winter, hence Charlet is a much better choice. The staff are great, they are very very nice. Overall I would definitely recommend the place to my friend. But please have bigger heater on winter time!
We went to enjoy the mountains and explore and hike. We got the Chalet and were happy with it except for the beds, which are very firm. Bring sleeping bag, or air mattress and you will be much more comfortable unless you like a rock hard mattress. Also in cooler months and extra blanket would be useful, or use the small space heater which warms to room sufficiently. Beyond that the staff is very friendly and the manager Salem is super helpful and will also guide you on hikes if requested. We used the camp fire ares by our Chalet, each has one and cooked over it two nights, and really enjoyed the evenings relaxing after busy days exploring the mountains. We checked out the Jebel Shams Heights resort and the Jebel Shams resort both near the canyon. While I think the latter is a much nicer facility, Heights is much the same as Sunrise, however their location is more full of tourists and trash and busy, while Sunrise is by itself, no cell reception once you get to the resort however on most roads leading to it cell service was fine. We felt the mountains and canyons around Sunrise much more beautiful and colorful than the other resorts. We will return, and explore more as there is so much to see. If you go and like to climb ask Salem to show you the way or guide you up the mountain next to the resort, and go up and over to the right and you can stand right on the edge of a huge gorge. Really amazing climbs and views and right at your back door.
Cool place with a lot of mountaineers area to explore. Facility is very cost effective with camp fire & barbeque possible. There is also a restaurant (reasonable). Journey to reach the location is truly challenging and adventurous.
Spent two nights at Sunrise as part of my trip around Oman and had an absolutely lovely time there. The drive was a little tricky, definitely recommend a 4x4, but quite exciting to do. Had excellent service from all the staff and went on a walk (about 3-4 hours) around the small canyon, which is well marked out. The second day I drove round to Jebel Shams and did the balcony walk, which I'd also recommend.
Over priced ”
OK for one night; food was poor, camp fire was fun for the children but overcharged for what it is. Also kid above 3 years old is considered adult so it's way too expensive for what offered The mountain hike was fun but too long for young children, took us almost 5 hours for what was estimated for 2 hours.
When we arrived we were shown to our tent. We did notice that the power point had blown out and that the heating had also blown out. When we asked staff if if would be cold as we had no power in our room. He said we could move tents or if we got cold they could get us more blankets. We asked to be moved, which they did. When we moved into our new tent not only did it have working power and heater.it also had spare blankets and a rug on the floor which our first tent did not have, We don't understand why they would put us In the first tent, as we were at that stage the only guests at the resort. Anyway we enjoyed the rest of our stay, and only needed the extra blankets not the heating. We didn't realise that both breakfast and the evening meal are included in our booking and the food was really good.
Nice place with great view”
We arrived here late in the evening. It was a challenging 4x4 ride from to road to the hotel as there are no street lights. We did not see the gorgeous view until the morning. It was amazing. Dinner was exceptional, breakfast was good too. The rooms were nice and big.
Our stay was comfortable. Staff were very friendly. We were in an Arabic tent, with adjoining shower room. It was basic, clean and pleasant. Food was plain but adequate. Location was beautiful and there were lovely views from walks close by.
Great Hotet, staff even better”
We stayed for two nights in this great hotel and enjoyed every minute of it. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We had the family chalet and it was big and very clean, we had our own fire place in front of the chalet. First evening we were sitting around the fire on stones and suddenly out of nowhere the stuff brought chairs for us. We felt very welcomed throughout the trip and would recommend the place to everybody. SUV required to reach the place, but it's worthy.
Peaceful hotel in rugged surroundings”
We had a great time. The staff is incredibly nice. We had dinner and breakfast at the resort and it was definitely fine. We had read from other reviews that the food wasn't great, so we packed some extra food which we ended up throwing out. The food had a bit of an indian/asian touch to it - perhaps this is why other guests didn't enjoy it? We drove in a 4 wheel drive car up to the resort, and it was fine. We saw smaller cars also make it up the mountain. It was raining on our way down the mountain the next day, and we can see how in that weather it would be difficult in a small car. Also, being able to sit around a campfire was great!
Very bad experience”
A joke. The bedroom had nothing to see with the pictures AND expect to be in a "room" (no concrete walls but some sheets opened to the wind basically) where you will face temperature around 10 degrees celsius.
Clean Arabic tent ”
We spent one night here. The tent and bath room are clean. Peaceful and quiet area. If you drive here and using Google map, you really need to pay attention on the Sunrise Resort sign because the google map pinned wrong spot. The dinner weren't good, it was a meal for 4 person, huge pile of rice and fried chicken including salad. Breakfast was ok. Good Staffs
21 slow kms from Jebel Shams”
This camp is simple but not priced accordingly. The rooms are cold and the beds uncomfortable. The food was not great and most of the staff not overly helpful - with one or two very nice exceptions...thank you nice lady in the dining room. I cannot in all conscience recommend this place.
Not a good experience”
We booked 3 nights in the resort, however, we left after one night! The location is great. It‘s on the top of the mountain and the view stunning! We booked a tent which only had an air cond instead of a heater. It was cold up there so we couldn‘t sleep at all because of the cold temperature. What’s more, at night, approx around 3am, some people up there started to party hard and listened to music waaay to loud! In addition, the tent was not very clean and had a lot of damages. The bathroom smelt weird and the shower was broken. The staff cannot speak English very well. When we checked in, the receptionnist strangely kept one of our passports. The only really nice and friendly guy was the local guide at the resort. He showed us good tracking trails and was very helpful. We only took breakfast. We got white toasts, butter & jam. Very basic and not good quality. It‘s definetly too expensive for what you get.
Location of resort is fabulous.. Staff very helpful, understanding & courteous (especially Mr. Salem)..
Clamping with style”
Highly recommended. Friendly staff. Great food.
Beautiful location in the mountains ”
Off the beaten track - 4WD is definitely needed. Friendly staff.
Rightly located in this Beautiful place with excellent 360 degrees views. ”
It was a difficult drive to reach to the resort with graded road but once reached the location is perfectly placed with an awesome view all around the surrounding. Temperatures during 2st week of December was 10 degree at day and 7-8 degree during night and clouds floating around the resort looks stunning. Recommended for a group trip can enjoy a lot.
