It is Bora Bora”
It is not close to anything without a car, it is clean, it is hot, it has a nice balcony. We were only there for 1 one night, we rented a car covered the island. For what we paid it was fine. 17 Days in French Polynesia, went to tripadvisor number one restaurant, worst meal I had in 17 days. Big hill to get to it, watched a wedding, in structures below, but no view. But it is Bora Bora, least favorite island out of 8., this hotel is a good value for Bora Bora.
This is an awesome spot close to the main town. Gerard and Moea are amazing hosts, they really go above and beyond.
Good price and very very good straff! The only thing that could be better is a few less bugs in the room.
Nice accommodation with a sea view. Kitchen wel equiped. Room is clean.
A great location in Vaitape”
We spent a couple of nights here returning from a stay in the overwater bungalow, with the aim to prolong our stay in Bora Bora without forking out the astronomical rates of overwater bungalow. The Sunset Hill Lodge delivered, we used it as base for an amazing boat trip and there are a couple of top notch restaurants at a walking distance. Without doubts this is the place providing the best value for money in Bora Bora. The only cons is that it was too big of a step down from the motu overwater bungalows experience, so with hindsight we would probably have booked somewhere else slightly more expensive to enjoy a better comfort (say £250 rather than £100, which is still significantly less than the £1000+ of the overwater bungalows)
Service minded, very friendly and willing to organize everything. That's what Gérard stands for!”
Altough the Agoda booking created a double booking, Gérard was superb in finding us a beautiful and nice place at the well known artist and creator Garrick Yrondi for the first night. The artist himself is very hospitallious. The second and last night we could stay in the lodge just next to the water in a very spacious studio. Gérard is a very humble and service minded person. He's willing to organize everything for you. Again Gérard, thanks! If we ever come back to Bora Bora we will sure find you!
The owner gerard is the best, kind, funny, warm-hearted, and has a cute puppy Fifi. The room is next to a super market, not far from habour. And the sea is right in front of the house, i saw Ray fish 2 mornings in a row there. Wifi is almost none but u r here to relax with the sea not play tweeter right?
Best Value in Bora Bora”
Bora Bora is perhaps the most strikingly lovely of the French Polynesian Islands. It is also - for tourists at least - an island of two faces. One face - which makes Bora Bora one of the most expensive places to visit - are the over-the-water bungalow resorts that are on the west and south sides of the island, mostly on the smaller islands that border the outer edges of the Bora Bora lagoon. These resorts are nice for people who want a packaged vacation including nightlife, and are willing to pay big time for it. The other face is mostly Vaitape, the commercial center of the island where the Polynesians live in largest numbers. Finding lodging here is much less expensive (a big plus if you are on a budget) and filling one's time requires willingness to get out on your own and experience all of Bora Bora first hand - from biking to hiking to snorkeling to boating to simply walking up and down the Main Street, taking meals at the food trucks, and enjoying sunsets on your own. If you are the type of visitor that enjoys the latter, then Sunset Hill Lodge is exactly the place for you - but beware, it is small and hosts only a handful of units. Make your reservation well in advance! We stayed in a one bedroom unit that had a back deck overlooking the water (about 150 meters down the hill). The unit is sparsely but adequately attired. Nothing fancy - after all the rental rate is just over $100/day - about 1/5th to 1/20th the daily rate of the Bungalows. It is just under 1KM to the twin center so expect to do some walking. There is a grocery, a couple restaurants and the wonderful food trucks to chose from. Also endless pearl shops and art galleries. If you seek Night Life, this is not the place for you. There is only one bar close by - at the Maitai Marina and restaurant. The owner - Gerard - is fabulous. He arranged trips and rentals for us. Plus he handled our laundry at no charge. There is no TV - though there is AC - so enjoy the marvelous view, it's colors, the grad
Gerard is a great host and is helpful in every way. We'll stay there again.
warm place to stay like your own home”
The onwer is very kind and supportive, he pick us up from the port and show us the city. The room itself is clean with air con and kitchen equipmement. Wifi is good.
Excellent value for money in Bora Bora”
We had a large apartment on the hill with a large nicely furnished terrace and well equipped kitchen, just two minutes from the sea with a nice view of the lagoon. Gerard, the owner of the lodge was extremely helpful and provided advice and even took us to the beach. Very welcome surprises included that laundry service or kayak rental were included in the price of the apartment. The place is about 200m away from the nearest supermarket and a Chinese take away. The village of Vaitape is about 800m away. Other than many other hosts in French Polynesia, Gerard speaks English :-). We'd happily come again!
The apartment is large with fantastic ocean view, a little bit tired but otherwise perfect. ”
Gerard is an absolutely fantastic host. Always helpful and available. He booked some great tours for us and helped us navigate around Bura Bura. Whilst the apartment is a bit tired, it is clean, it is large, in a great location, with great views, and a great terrace and overall great value for money. Thank you Gerard for all your help.
Excellent value for money in Bora Bora. Gerard is the most helpful host you could wish for and very helpful, taking us to many places and arranging tours and bookings for us. Is only 700 metres from Viatape town centre. Room we had is on hill upstairs with a great view and about 100 metres from water. Thankyou Gerard again.
Gerrard is the best host!!
Confortable with view great host in great location”
Great. Gerard the owner was alwais very nice and helpful in organizing our excurtions and transferts. The apartment is large beautiful and comfortable.
Two nights in comfort”
Gerard is a wonderful host. Our one-bedroom apartment was on the hillside with a great view of the harbor. The unit was clean and comfortable, and a short walk to the wharf. We would stay there again.
Owner Gerald is really nice, he provided ferry pick-up services for free. He is very patient to introduce the local famous spot to us when we checked in at the first day. The only thing needed to be improved is the wifi. I have to say the speed of Internet in shl is super slow.
Motel at the Gas Station”
If you are looking for a dream vacation in Bora Bora, this is the last place where you should go. The owner is a very nice man, but what can you do if the cheap motel is simply overrated and overpriced on a terrible location? if you would know the fact this house is just next to a dirty gas station would you book this motel? Forget the screen savers and desktop wallpapers of Bora Bora if you stay at this place, you will have a totally different experience. I was thinking of write this review for a few days. Normally I do not downrate anything, I am simply not that type. I am sorry about the hotel owners etc. But after my thoughts are with the travelers who where seeking for a dream vacation. This pension is absolutely not what the online description suggested. It is very overpriced, for a little more you can stay in 3-4 stars good hotels in this area. And the problem is people who visit Bora Bora invest huge amounts into air tickets just to get there, and simply this is not what they deserve for a stay. So this hotel is fine if the owners ask "thirty some dollars" per night and publish fair pictures about their place.
Nice Place to Stay”
We use hotels mainly as a base of operations on our trips. SHL was good for us due to its location in Vaitape - near the main island port, grocery store, Mt. Pahia trailhead, shops, vehicle rental, etc., all within walking distance. SHL has units at the edge of the lagoon and a few units 0.1 mile or so from the water. Ours was away from the water. It had a queen bed and a sofa bed, bathroom with shower, living room, private deck, and kitchen. (But note that the kitchen, like other places we stayed in French Polynesia, had a microwave and stove but no conventional oven.) The bed was comfortable for us. SHL is owned and operated by a man named Gerard, who lives up by the away-from-water units. He picked us up from the town port, and dropped us off there at the end of our stay. On our first day, he drove us to Matira Beach. He did laundry for us. We had no phone, so he helped us contact tour providers. He was just great. His English is pretty good (but as with many English speakers in FP, you have to pay attention due to the French accent, and be ready to process words not commonly used in American English, or used with somewhat different meanings). So we were pleased with SHL. It's no 5-star resort, but it's better than the 2-star places we usually stay to try to save money.
