Peaceful, picturesque view and suitable for family”

The lodge was clean, comfortable and cozy. The bed in the main bedroom was huge, and the size of the rooms are perfect. However, the water heating system can be improved. Also it is quite confusing when we first arrived this park as we did not know where to check in. The lodge is actually part of Sutera Sanctuary Lodge that manages Kinabalu Park. This should be highlighted in the description of this lodge. I also wish there is a microwave provided in the lodge at least. The breakfast was good, although it will be better if they provide fruit juice. One more thing, we tried to find the entrance to Botanical Garden using the map, but we could only find the entrance that has been closed. There is no further information on how to find the new entrance to this garden.

Total Sanctuary! Go for it!”

Huge Nepenthes Lodge, Close to Nature and Quietness

This is our 2nd time staying at the Kinabalu Park. We loved both of our stays. This time we stayed at the Nepenthes Lodge with good value of price through AGODA, it's like half of the normal price. The lodge is HUGE for 3 of us and it's a duplex split level lodge, rooms are all upstairs which is same level with the main door, and the living room, kitchen (just a kettle, NO gas, not meant for cooking) and spacious balcony are downstairs. You get fireplace too if it's too cold, they even provide the firewood for you to use it. There are 2 rooms (1 is king size bed and another 2 single-beds which connect to another balcony outside both rooms. Very clean lodge, and what I love the most is the quietness of the Park and the lodge, I can only hear birds, insects, nature just outside your room. Amazing! Go for it you won't regret it!

Awesome place”

Spacious room, spacious unit, great surrounding

We have always wanted to stay here but the normal price is just too much for us to afford. We frequent Kinabalu Park but this was the first time we stayed at the hotel. When we saw the Agoda offer, we just couldn't resist. We put up at the Nepenthes Lodge which had 2 rooms in 1 unit. Rooms were on the first floor, whilst the living, dining & pantry at the underground floor. The rooms had heaters. My children loved it because of the cold & cooling surrounding. My only complain is that the WC did not have any hose. It was troublesome to clean my toddler and his diaper. Too bad it was during the haze & the mist was very thick around Kundasang area. Hence, visibility of mountain and the forest was zero. But overall it was a good stay and we would love to come again.

Grace Hostel Room with 2 Bunk Beds

Exceptional”

We stayed at Grace Hostel in Kinabalu National Park. It was perfect for what we needed. We were in a room that slept four with two bunkbeds and it was very clean and cozy. The room was very basic with no AC, as to be expected with the cooler climate in the park. They provided transport to and from the hostel. There were towels, blankets and re-usable water bottles in the room. The communal shower and toilet facilities were adequate. There was a nice communal area. It was quite buggy and there were some holes in the window screen meant to keep out bugs so would recommend bug spray. The dining facilities in the park were on the more expensive side, with breakfast from 55RM and dinner from 80RM, however the staff recommended a place to eat just outside the park, across the road from the park entrance. We ate all our meals there, it was very affordable and they even make pack lunches for travellers hiking in the park. All in all a very nice budget place to stay.

clean, tranquility, attentive staffs

the management changed and it is called Sutera Sanctuary Lodges. Stayed in Hill Lodge which is the cheapest, but it is spacious enough and very clean. comfortable bed, complete amenities.visited when the park was closed for climbing activity (end of august) so it was quiet and calm. we enjoyed fresh cool air and walk in the trail. restaurant served good quality breakfast by menu, not buffet but it was satisfying. Overall, if you want to stay overnight in Kundasang, THIS is the place to be.

stayed at hill lodge early December 2018. PROs: excellent location as it is within the kinabalu park entrance. comfortable bed. clean. spacious so you can pump-up your own queen sized inflatable mattress for the kids. pictures in web did not do the place justice. its better looking live. basic hotel necessities provided.lots of things to do within the park entrance even if not going up the mountain. nice and cold especially at night. However not as cold as we wished. night-under 20 celcius. heater provided. daytime gets warmer by the hour. wake-up early to enjoy the cool breeze. CONs: u'll still have to pay for park entrance on top of your hotel stay (but cheap: RM3/adult, RM1/child-valid for 3 days for both kinabalu park entrance and poring hot spring Ranau-so keep your tickets!). any extra of anything will be charged eventho the lodge is already quite pricey. room telephone line poor so communication wth hotel must be via ur handphone. old water heating system, dated bath-tolerable

The best stay in Kundasang”

Location, Cleanliness, Staff

1. We stayed at the Nepenthes Lodge and thanks to Insider deal, we managed to secure the room. There were 2 rooms in the lodge and 2 storey lodge. We were so amazed with the lodge cause it feels like we were in countryside of the UK. The lodge is equipped with fireplace and because the temperature dropped to 15 degrees at night during our stay, we asked their friendly staff to fire up the fire place. both room are spacious and they have electric heater to warm up the room. 2. Food for breakfast are great with beautiful view. Managed to wake up early in the morning to get a morning walk with beautiful view of mount kinabalu. 3. Downside is there are many dogs around the area and sometimes I got scared to jog around the area alone. and also they dont have host inside the toilet (that is more to asian toilet problem cause we prefer the toilet with host). 4. other than that, fantastic hotel and I think it should be rated as 4 star hotel.

Convenient and cozy accommodation”

This hotel was a very pleasant surprise. It was a bit tricky to pinpoint the exact location on a map so I was initially concerned that I had been caught in some kind of scam. This could not have been further from the truth. The reception is located just inside the entrance gate to the national park. There are various lodging types (cabins, suites, dorms) scattered around the outer ring of the park and accessing some of them may be difficult for people with reduced mobility. Be sure to call ahead if you have special accessibility needs. Since we were only staying the night and not planning to climb to the summit, this was the perfect location for exploring the trails in the park. The staff was very friendly and helpful, providing us with a trail map and a guidebook in our room with details of each route. They offer guided tours for reasonable prices. Our room was one the private cabins up the hill and it was absolutely beautiful. The toilet/shower room could use an upgrade, but everything else was so luxurious that it didn't really bother us. We were stuck inside during a nasty storm on our one night on the mountain but we just bundled up in the fluffy bathrobes and drank complimentary tea in bed. It was so romantic! The restaurants on site are really good and totally worth the price. We wanted to try one just outside the park but it had closed before we could make it over there. The food was excellent so we weren't too disappointed. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you want to be close to nature while still enjoying relative luxury.

Amazing Adventure ”

Pros: Quick check in and check out, beautiful and spacious Peak Lodge , with a spectacular view of Gunung Kinabalu! Friendly and helpful staff - there was a staff waiting when we arrived at the lodge who explained everything that we needed to know and answered our questions. I had a problem with my luggage lock and they came to the rescue. Loved the fireplace and it was comfortable having the heaters due to the chilly weather. Cons: Wish we had a guide to help us negotiatiate the park, or at least a better map. Could not locate the trail we wanted despite trying a few times. (Maybe it was our fault for not asking for help.) We also had frequent visitors - a cat and a dog. The cat was no issue but the dog was, as we were all afraid of dogs. So could not really enjoy walking outside our lodge for fear that the dog would visit us. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this place. You won't regret.

Perfect location to visit Mt. Kinabalu Park”

Perfect location to visit Mt. Kinabalu Park as it is located right at the entrance to the park. We only booked the room. No meals included. Unfortunately, we decided to go for the dinner buffet in the Balsam restaurant and were really disappointed. What was offered did by far not match the relatively high price (quality of food, certain dishes no longer available, etc.). We definitely recommend to go for the a la carte restaurant in the hotel of the park (very reasonable prices, nice setting, quality food and good service).

Nice place to rest and see Mount Kinabalu”

We stayed at the chalet (hill's lodge) for 2 nights. We enjoyed ourselves mostly at our stay there. Hill's lodge is located further inside of the national park and it was quite quiet most of the time. Of course noises by neighbours could be heard as it is generally quite quiet + noises from the nature surrounding the chalet. Lightning for the chalet might be a bit dark for some but we found it just adequate. 2 light bulbs were not working. The staff did ask us about whether things are ok when we had our breakfast after the first night and we did mention 2 lights wasn't working but we were ok with it. So I guess that's why no people came to replace the bulbs. Shower is ok with adequate hot water though you have to wait for about 30mins before using it after being switch on. Somehow it's not too crowded or touristsy during our stay so it was a nice place to relax and rest. and the view of mount kinabalu in the morning from the chalet is really good.

Good place to escape from the hustle & bustle of city life. There are many trekking trails around to enjoy the nature - with various difficulty levels & aspects such as birds, river, view of Mount Kinabalu view. The staffs were very friendly yet helpful in answering doubts. The atmosphere was very relaxing, cool temperature with sounds of insects filling the air all day long.. Drawbacks, several short power outages but anyway, it's back to nature! Personal transport is a must especially ig planning to visit the Desa Dairy Farm, Kundasang town, Poring Hot Spring etc. Note: check-in at the Park receptionist hut before heading to the suite..

The Peak Lodge has a clear view of the entire mount Kinabalu. You woke up to such a majestic view. The Peak Lodge itself looks unique, very clean and comfortable. It has a fireplace and firewood provided which gave the kids a wonderful experience. This is not common for Malaysian I meant. We had a very pleasant stay, breakfast was phenomenal. ”

We stayed here prior to climbing Mt. Kinabalu on the next day. I strongly recommend fellow climbers to stay here as well. The environment is serene. The room is roomy. Bed sheets were not very clean with some small stains here and there, but hey you can’t expect to have spotless sheets if you choose to stay in the mountains. To me, cleanliness is good. The breakfast served was amazing. The summit of Mt. Kinabalu can be viewed outside the property. The cons: the place is not accessible by foot from the Park HQ / Check-in counter, especially if you are carrying a lot of luggage. It is best to drive your own car. There is space for you to park your car beside the property.

Classic and beautiful”

Nature, beautiful and nice

This so call peak lodge is the best lodge in kinabalu park itself. The classic architecture come with fire place is the best place for a small family to get together. With the position facing Mount Kinabalu is superb. I really have a wonderful time with my family in this lodge.

Great room, amenities unsatisfactory”

Stayed at the Hill Lodge, Hill Lodge 5 specifically. Lucky enough to get this one because the view for the lodge is just stunning. Get up as early as 5.30am and if you’re lucky enough, you’ll get to see the majestic Mount Kinabalu and it’s glory minus the mist. In the evening, watch out for the sunset. During my stay, the sunset was just beautiful, and we were somehow lucky that there were double rainbows. Just stunning. Downside of Sutera Sanctuary Lodge: - security!!! The room door has no latch, or any security measures besides the doorknob. We’re in the middle of the park and people come in and out of the park all the time. How can there be no proper security measures for the room... - TV does not work. Yes, we’re supposed to be enjoying nature and all, but at night when it’s pitch black, there’s really nothing much to do with the TV not working. - no fan available in the room. Yeah it’s cold, but with the windows closed (otherwise insects and mosquitoes can get in, no mosquito net) there’s no ventilation at all. - inadequate amount of signages. You really can’t tell where you’re staying. The signboards are just lacking Please improve Sutera Sanctuary Lodge. Live up to the expectation and the price please.
