Could be a paradise, but... ”
Sutera Lodges provides beautiful apartments, very kind hospitality and even live music during the dinner. The rooms are really spacious, beautiful and clean. However, on the beach and sea there's trash that tourists have thrown from the boats and on the beach. This is not Sutera's fault, but the trash ruins the natural beauty of the island. During the daytime there are tourist boats that come to the island, but they leave by 4 pm. After that the island is really tranquil and cosy. We enjoyed the great hospitality of the staff and the band in the evenings. However, I still missed massage, which was not available in the island.
Comfortable resort ”
Comfortable resort by the beach on an island. Good for a short break from city life. Easy access from kk by boat. Cosy suite.nice friendly staff. Daytrippers during the day make this place busy and full of fun with all sorts of activities. If u want quiet surrounding choose the hillside suite.
My reason for scoring cleanliness 3 stars was down to the general beach waste throughout the island. The room and resort facilities I would score 4/5 star. I discussed the beach waste with resort management and suggested they levy a small fee to provide for daily island waste collection. The challenge is beyond Manukan island but I believe as a national island reserve they need to set a good example. The cleanliness would act to attract tourism. I would recommend this island and hope to visit again. We all share the responsibility to keep our seas, beaches and shore waste free.
If you want privacy, relax, and calmness from the city, this hotel might suit your intention. The room is spacious, bed is comfy, staff is super nice and friendly. I wish the provide english breakfast to the room but unfortunately they dont.
For a short weekend getaway”
Had a few hiccups during our stay due to shortage of power but staff compensated well. Having our own private beach was a bonus so we didn't get bothered by the huge crowd that came for daytrips - we saw plenty of Nemos and other colourful fishes just within 50m radius of their private beach. Room was great. Food was not too bad (we opted for the asian set meal ; twice). 3d2n max though..
6 stars for staff”
We had a good stay in the hillside villa and it was heavenly. Was a really good stay. The island was deserted after 4pm-9am as the reviews were mentioning so take the chance to enjoy the island then. For this price point it’s really hard to beat. Also the staff were really good and friendly, felt like they went out of their way to make it comfortable for us. We had a heavy luggage and from the boat to the rooms which was a tall climb, they basically helped us with it. Also let us call them when checking out to help us with it. Some suggestions was that maybe after dark they could have activities like live music in their restaurant for guests to sit in. There was a roaming musicians when we were having dinner that went to each table and felt it would be better if they had a stage that people could sit around and hear dedications. Bad point was it felt alittle uncoordinated when trying to get there, we were staying in both sutera sanctuary lodges in kinabalu park and manukan island and there was no way of having someone coordinate this as one booking. In the end we had to book both separately on agoda and arrange the transport like 2 separate bookings. Given these along with poring hot spring are really the nice locations in kk, would think they should link it all together. It was also a little confusing where to go when we reached sutera harbour as we thought maybe they were related entities.
A paradise from 4pm to 9am”
The island in itself is a remote location with 29 rooms. The personnel is really taking care of guests and we feel at home really quickly. The room are very nice so are the villa. The food at the restaurant is really great especially the special rice. I would recommend without any problem.
Best customer service and beautiful island”
I’m very much happy with Sutera team they are wonderful people! Great place, excellent customer service .. value for money ... special thanks to F&B manager Khairul, and his team members Egi and Stella you people are awesome!!!! Humble request to the public, please keep the island clean do not litter .. sad to see rubbish floating around the beach area .. Overall great place and people !!!
Prefect stay !”
Very lovely stay for our family with 2 little kids! Operation manager Mr Wang show great hospitality and care to my kids, his advices are great , breakfast are great (just a bit many flies). We are stay in hillside villa ,Staff Tommy helped very much taking our luggage ( a long way with steep stairs from lobby) A must to come back in near future!
- Excellent service staff - Idyllic setting (if you are booking the hillside villas). You WILL wake up to a surreal scenery and sounds - Cleanliness is above average. - Rustic luxury Caveat emptor - corals in the immediate vicinity are dying, and I feel a sense of dread for the future of marine life around the island - an army of day trippers will descend on the island between 10am to 4pm. Luckily, the resort has a defacto private beach. - scheduled electricity downtime, each lasting about 5 minutes. Rather than being an inconvenience, we just loved the feeling of solitude and serenity in those few moments being engulfed by nature. - Internet connection is slow and unreliable, but I'm guessing you are not coming here to check work emails or host teleconferences, right? :)
Cozy and Clean”
Spend one night 2 adults, 3 young kids. We had a lot of fun time, the jetty is very close to the room, private beach area and cheap snorkeling rental. in the afternoon, we walked for about 40 minutes to watched amazing sunset and came back to join the lighting up Christmas tree event (specially invited with card sent to the room). Will definitely come back as Manukan Island so close to KK.
Beachside Luxury on Island”
Sutera Sanctuary Lodges is a luxurious slice of island life. Facilities are good & the beach is stunning. The hotel has its own private stretch of beach so you dint get overwhelmed by the daytrippers. Onece they leave at about 3pm you have the place to yourself & fellow guests. Excellent snorkelling conditions in the shallows. Dont miss sunset at Sunset point! We were delayed an hour getting to the Island by a problem with the Hotel boat, but on arrival we received a heartfelt apology & were upgraded to a Villa. Great Service.
The employees are friendly. There is so quiet and romantic after 4:00pm because a lot of tourists left. Staying here is the best choice because of the beautiful sunset and peaceful beach. The room is also great! It’s clean, large. The food is delicious. This staying is going to be an unforgettable memory in my life. There is only this hotel in the island ;therefore, it seems like you stay in personal island and beach!
A place to unwind and get appreciate nature ”
Island is near to the mainland, only 10 minutes travel time by speedboat from Sutera Harbour Marina. The Island is open to public from 8am to 4pm thus you will find the island is crowded between these time especially weekends and public holiday. Lots of amenities for visitors. Food serves are bountful especially the seafood as well as local fruits. Few types of accommodation are provided range from beach villa to hill top villa. These are all luxury air-coned accommodation for visitors who opt to stay overnight. The island provide visitors with strategic location to witness the sunrise & sunset. Lots of water sports are available in the island and island hoppings to the nearest islands can also be arranged. Few good restaurants are operated to caters for the daily visitors and those who stays overnight in the island.
Sutera Hillside Villa review”
Absolutely fantastic from 4:30pm until 9:30am each day. The day trippers crowd the public area from 10 - 4, but it did not negatively affect our stay. In fact it brought some life and entertainment during the day. The private beach for the hillside villa had very good snorkeling and marine life. The food at the restaurant was excellent. The evenings were absolutely quiet and peaceful. We went diving with the local dive shop, Down Below Divers. The facilities were very good, the staff was excellent and the quick access via the dive boat to good dives sites made it very enjoyable. I have stayed at many other resorts in both East and West Malaysia and the quick access to the airport (12 mins) and 15 min boat ride to the island made the logistics of this resort simple, leaving more time for enjoyment.
Fantastic staff and friendly efficient service”
Location, staff and immaculate rooms. Unfortunately the amount of daytrippers to the island and the constant rubbish washing up from the mainland is ruining the beaches and placing the msr8nd life in grave danger.
I am very delighted to have stayed here. The Lodges are superb and spot on all aspects. The staffs were amazing. They assisted all the way. The private beach for the in house guest was very nice. I liked it a lot. We will surely come again for a relaxing stay. The music band playing table to table was very entertaining. The Sand Bar team was good. Able to create an awesome cocktail. The movie by the beach is a great idea. The food at the Perahu Restaurant was nice. Well keep up the great Job..
Great experience overall”
This was a good place to stay for a couple nights. Pros: beautiful beaches and views, superb facilities, really warm staff, good hiking, snorkeling opportunities and cool wildlife Cons: the day tourists can get a little annoying as there are so many, however if you’re staying in the hillside villas there’s a beach that’s relatively private. Also, the restaurant was good with many offerings, but you have to be super specific about your order; I asked for some items that were delivered incorrectly or not at all, although with that said they were very accommodating to fix when I raised it. Finally, the island can be a little pricey, especially for beer - if you have time, stock up on supplies before you head to the island. Overall would definitely come back. Thank you Sutera!
I was there for my honeymoon. Hill side vill.. Beautiful and clean~ November is a low season. Everyone come here in the morning.. but less will stay over. I like the environment and the friendliness of the staffs here.. the price is very reasonable.. but the food here is very huge portion so we cant finish it all. During daytime have a lot of Sport activities for us to choose. I like the sea walking very much~ 😍 that's plenty of fish! Enjoy a wonderful honey moon.. that will be my best memory staying in this villa~
Helpful and Thoughtful Staff”
I book my stay through Agoda but on the day to travel to Manukan Island, my daughter caught fever and need to visit the Dr. We have no choice but to cancelled out trip. As I book the hotel at a special price, it is understand that no refund is allowed and payment is fully paid. I called in just to informed so that the boat will not wait for us.; but to my surprise they together with Agoda helped to arranged to postpone my stay. It is so kind of them to take this extra efforts. Thank you
