History of the Runa House of Design & Museum owner:
Dancing in Silver is a retrospective of the remarkable designs of Runi Palar, Indonesia’s first modern jeweler. A Central Javanese princess and famed court dancer, in Europe and New York she became a cultural icon, designer and artist in a male-dominated field, all against a backdrop of revolution, political chaos, prejudice and economic hardship.
As a housewife of an interior designer and painter Adriaan Palar, firstly I designed my own fashion and jewelries in my leisure time as a hobby. Adriaan found my special talent as a potential designer and supported me to be more serious to product artistic works from bronze to silver jewelries. Then I started to join many fashion shows and art exhibitions in Indonesia.
In 1976, Runi Palar and her husband, Adriaan Palar, established a company called C.V. RUNA.
RUNA is an abbreviation of the names of the couple: Runi and Adriaan.
The products of CV RUNA were primarily gold and silver jewelries, but textile designs were also created. In the expansion of the business, two from the three children of us, joined and together they run the company as a family business.
In 2001, the first silverware Museum in Indonesia called RUNA House of Design and Museum was established in Abiansemal, Lodtunduh, Ubud - Bali by RUNA Company.
