Hälsar vi i 27:an
Affordable stay right by beautiful Lamai beach”
+location, price, clean, friendly staff by the beach, massage by the beach, new AC unit, good for kids, right by the Sunday Night Market - basic and a bit outdated, no much variety for breakfast. We would definitely stay again! -
Well-located on Lamai Beach - great for hanging out on the beach and for swimming. Lots of restaurants and shops around. We stayed 2 nights and found the simple bungalow clean and comfortable.
This was my third time at the resort. It certainly isn't a five star experience, but it's a great value for the money. Practically step from your room onto the beach. Party spots about 100 m up the road, but the noise doesn't reach the resort. The staff is great and extremely friendly and helpful. I'll be back to this paradise.
Basic but good”
The place is basic, nothing special, but nice enough, affordable, good location and right on the beach. Also is located right on the street with all the shops and bars so you don't need to walk far to get some food or to shop. Showers could do with an upgrade but other than that was good. Would recommend for those who are on a budget, even families with small kids.
We love this place... simple, rustic, comfortable bungalows. The rooms have air con, hot water, and satellite television. The Utopia Restaurant is my favorite place for Thai food. The owner and staff are very, very friendly and always took excellent care of us. The hotel fronts one of the best swimmable beaches on Lamai. We were there for 22 days and will return again soon!
Best Beachfront on Lamai”
We have been to Koh Samui many times; but this was our first visit to Utopia. We had the privilege of staying 16 nights in this very unique accommodation. Our room was the Super Deluxe Type II. These wooden cottages are rustic and quite comfortable~ the room had very good air conditioning; mini fridge; and simple bathroom with hot shower. After many long days on the beach, these 'dark' cottages were a welcome relief from hot/sunny Koh Samui. The beach fronting Utopia is the best on Samui- wide expanse of powdery sand and deep/clean swimming. The real stars of the Utopia are the Rattanaaroon family who owns the hotel- Rapadee; Pear; and Coke were the best hosts ever: always ensuring that the hotel and restaurant guests were well-taken care of. The three family members all have an excellent command of English, and were always available when needed to assist with a request; restaurant order; of even chauffeuring us around the Island. Coke is a dependable driver and at a reasonable cost. We used the hotel's car (Hillux Toyota 4x4, very similar to our Toyota Highlander in the USA) many times- Coke was always on time for our pick ups and very flexible with our requests. While we have stayed at many hotels on Samui, the Utopia will be our future choice. We look forward to returning in the not too distant future. (P.S. Rapadee's Mango Sticky Rice is the best we've had in Thailand!)
Is a bit old, but has family atmosphere ”
he central location makes the resort interesting. the owner coupel are friendly and helpful. we enjoyed the beach vacation and with a motorcycle from there you can discover the charm and the island well.
Good Resort, Good location on the beach”
My girlfriend and I stayed at utopia for 3 nights and loved it. Our room was very big and clean and the free wifi was excellent. The resort is right on the beach and also on the busy road of lamai so we were close to all the bars an restaurants. We would definitely stay here again
friendly and trust worthy staff”
one of the last original hotels at lamai beach. rooms are clean and quaint, but the bathroom needs and up date. we have been staying here for the last 25years and will continue to do so, it's our second family.
Nice Bungalows with Essentials ”
We opted for the beach front bungalow which was right in front of the beach. It was very clean and had everything you would need. The restaurant was right next door and I would recommend paying extra for the banana pancake. Breakfast was included but we got the extra pancake and it was delicious! Not like a normal pancake. We rented scooters from the hotel which were 200 bht a day. Cheap! Also the hotel is located on a little strip with many restaurants bars and shops in walking distance. Their is even a gym and a mui thai training facility a little up the road if you would like to get some training in.
The staff were superb”
The bungalows were very spacious and the rooms were cleaned perfectly. Very close to the beach with the resturaunt on the beach. The staff were very freindly and nothing was too much trouble. The only tiny fault was there wasnt much choice for breakfast if it was included in the room rate.
Old dated furniture in the beach huts and restaurant patio and beach. Food ok beds clean towels daily. But nothing else no tea/ coffee in rooms just a fridge no beach towels provided.if you just want a bed to sleep on a tiny wet room to shower.in then it would suit you , if you want a pool and good facilities look elsewhere.
Terrible outdated hotel”
This was a deeply disappointing hotel, which appears to have gone unchanged since the 1970s. Despite paying for one of the best rooms, the door didnt lock or shut properly, the room was infested with ants and there was no peace from constant Russian karaoke next door. However, the worst aspect was the attitude of the staff, who were not bothered about guests in the slightest. Despite being on crutches, I was given no help to carry my suitcase and thr breakfast was very miserly. Only 3 small pieces of fruit were in each pancake and we had to constantly ask for items supposed to be provided with breakfast to be put out. The hotel just seemed to want to cut corners and save money at every turn. A hotel to avoid at all costs
great beach in a good location”
We (two adults and two children 4 & &) stayed at Utopia in a deluxe beach front bungalow for almost two weeks. We enjoyed our stay and the bungalow was just a few steps from the lovely beach of Lamai. The room was not very big but had two beds that worked for the four of us. We booked with breakfast included and the breakfast menu was ok, nothing special. The restaurant is nice, situated overlooking the sea, but the prices are high compared to places up by the road. The location is great with shops, bars and restaurant, still quiet at night during our stay. The beach is what we loved the most with its white sand and great sceanary. Lots of people selling fruits, corn, donuts etc on the beach which we found convienient.
Superior Delux is not what it says”
We booked 2 Deluxe Superior rooms to find out that it wasn't Deluxe Superior at all. Super simple, not clean and the restaurant is not good at all. After arguing a bit, the owner just says, "Yes, I know we get lots of complaints about it and we have to change the name of the room". On the pictures they only show the "Super Deluxe Superior". Its ok for 2 nights but if you are looking for a long relaxing holiday, choose a different resort. You can find way better places in that price range.
The only good thing is the location, which is incredible. One staff member was very friendly, but we had no dealings with her as she spoke no English so was obviously just placed at the front desk to be a smiling face. The others were a little rude. As a couple, we were first shown to a well-located bungalow with two separate twin beds... um, no. The second choice was located at the back beside a big dirty wall with views of...well, a bug dirty wall. We had spent the little bit extra for a better room and felt it wasn't what we wanted. When I politely asked for another room, I was spoken to like a child who didn't know how things worked and even mocked when I said we just didn't like the room we were given. The food in the restaurant was gross...go elsewhere for your lunch.Look, we don't look to the hotel to provide our experience and can have fun anywhere, but bad attitudes can really make you eager to leave.
Budget Stay by the Beach”
The room was spartan with a wet-bath, but it was fine for the price. The resort is like a set of bungalows in a line from the beach in the rear to the road out front. The beach area features a restaurant, lounge chairs for sunning, even a massage service there on a little platform in front of the restaurant. There is easy access to sun and swimming, as well as to the bars, shops and restaurants on the road. The restaurant menu is printed in English, German and Thai. The rooms are not up to western standards of comfort but not uncommon for this part of the world. If you want to save some money, this could work for you. If you want a comfortable and luxurious vacation experience, look for something more upscale.
