Good choice for 1-2 nights”
I had 1 day in Manila. Not much time to see everything, so I chose Swagman as it is located in a walking distance from Intramuros, the Rizal park, and most of Manila museums. Taxi ride from hotel to Fort Santiago costed me 55 peso(meter). I wrote my flight details in comments to reservation request, but I waited more than 45 minutes at the airport for the hotel taxi. Perhaps they didn't get this information. I may be wrong, but I advice to re-arrange about transfer with hotel after making reservation. Hotel food is fine, however if you don't like price tags on it, you can find some budget restaurants and 7-eleven nearby.

Relaxing and Satisfying Stay at Swagman Hotel ”
I was satisfied with the services that Swagman offered me during my stay there.I availed of the free airport transfer and I had my free manicure. In my room, I felt comfortable with the temperature. When I was inside the hotel room, I felt relaxed. Hotel personnel seemed to be very accommodating. I observed a fast food service. The foods at its restaurant can cater to the taste of both Filipinos and foreigners. The hotel rate was affordable. You could hardly see other hotels offering several amenities out of a limited budget. I highly recommend this hotel for your future relaxation.

Free Airport Shuttle Great for First Timers”
This was my first venture to Asia. Having never flown to the Eastern Hemisphere before, I promptly did my homework on the subject. I sought out the advice of America ex-patriots living abroad in the Philippines via online communities. The Swagman Hotel came highly recommended for newcomers, as they offer a free shuttle to and from the airport. Some cab drivers have become infamous among the American Expats in Manila for not using the meter and wanting to invent very high prices when a "white face" is in the cab. After a long flight from the USA to Manila, the Swagman offered a nice little oasis in which I could rest and shower before finishing my trip to Cebu City to meet a certain special young lady. When helping yourself to the drinks in the mini-bar, be sure to clean the tops of cans --or do what I did--drink only drinks that have a screw off lid! The mini-bar is stocked with some unique drinks that I had never tried before, but tasted really good. Also, bring your American Dollars if you want. They do currency exchange at the hotel's front desk. The rate is good, and because of the FREE shuttle to and from the airport I could wait to exchange the money in the safe atmosphere generated by the good people at the Swagman! It was as good and painless as I had heard. The only thing I would have done differently--is--I would have booked a better (Superior) room if one had been available!

Very good”
Nice Australian Hotel , good staff .The bar staff simply outstanding . The menu could do with expanding when you compare it to other local Australian Hotels in the area near by. Stayed two nights , very quiet , a good sleep. Would not want to increase its prices for accommodation or you would step up to a higher grade Hotel nearby. Overall i would recommend the Swagman Hotel for a couple of nights in Manila while in transit.

Perfect pitstop.”
Overall a good hotel for the price. Great staff and food. Dining room could be bigger, it's the only place that wifi works so at meal times it can be hard to find a seat. Aircon was set too cold for my liking & with no control the only option was to pull up the blankets. No window is a bit unfortunate but I didn't spend too much time in the room, basically just there to sleep & shower. Biggest complaint about this hotel is the beggars on the street, Swagman seems to be a magnet for them, you do get really tired of all the cheap Rolex watches & Viagra being thrust under your nose every time you step outside. Hotel is close to a lot of the nightlife & is a good waypoint between airport & Angeles.

Good Value--Nice airport service.”
Reading previous reviews here, I was expecting very little from this hotel. I was pleasantly surprised. I was upgraded to a nicer room at no charge (I had paid through Agoda). The room was spacious, towels were fluffy and thick, and the room was clean. The CR had a shower with nice hot water I found some of the public areas such as hallways a bit dingy, but not overly decayed. The restaurant had a fabulous steak for 395 pesos, which included potato, veggie, and salad, as well as a dinner roll. The portion was large as well. Avoiding the taxi scams in Manila I had heard so much about is what led me to the Swagman, but I will return again.

A good place to start”
Manila is a very daunting city and it is good to book in to The Swagman for at least the first night. I was glad to avoid the the taxi bandits outside because I was picked up at the airport be a very attractive lady and led to the airconditioned courtesy bus. They were waiting even though my flight was late The rooms were ok for the price and suited me and my limited budget. The satf all spoke english and there is a large menus in the cosy pub like atmosphere of the restuarant. The food was distinctly Australian /English but it also had a lot of Filliapina dishes too. The food was good and cheap too. The next morning I was off to my next destination of Angeles in their courtesy and delivered to my hotel door there. Excellant.

Swagman Hotel -- Stay or Nay?”
I was traveling to Manila on business. Since this was my first trip, I wanted to make it easy on myself to get to the hotel. So the free shuttle pick-up from the airport was a big appeal. I had read some blogs that said how some new travelers to Manila had bad experiences with the taxi. Since I was arriving after a 13 hour flight at 3:30 am, I expected to be in mental and physical condition to haggle with the taxis. Before boarding my flight from SFO, I sent an email to the Swagman hotel staff confirming my flight schedule. I let them know what time I would land. When I arrived, they had a staff member waiting for me outside the arrival terminal with my name on a placard. They even announced my name on the intercom because I was a little late exiting the airport. This was a positive experience. The ride from the airport to the hotel took about 20 minutes since there was very little traffic this early in the morning. My room was ready for me when I arrived at about 5 am. Their was not hassle about early check-in. I had coffee in the hotel dining room. Their was free wi-fi. The coffee is excellent by the way -- fresh brew from an expensive coffee machine. I ended up having 2 cups. The deluxe room was pretty modest. I stayed on the 7th floor where their is an atrium and skylight. There is a shower, Western toilet, and single sink. There is no bathtub in my room. They also don't provide you with a hair-dryer or shampoo so bring your own. The bed is fairly comfortable. There is a vanity area with chair and mirror. I had a red futon which was comfortable. The TV had basic channels. The TV sat on top of the mini-fringe. The floor was vinyl. There is a buffet breakfast in the morning. They served traditional Filipino food and Western items like sausage, potatoes, and eggs. You can have your egg prepared to order. As a guest, the buffet was greatly discounted so it made for a cheap meal. Overall, I was happy with the experience. I w

Old timey hotel still gets the job done”
Awful trip over from Hong Kong, awful taht Cathay Pacific insist on still using the barbaric and primitive Terminal 1 at NAIA (Manila Airport for the ininitiated) and not unusual having to spend almost two hours to get through Immigration/Customs and get one bag from the carousel. What next? A 500P ride to Ermita from the coupon taxi, what a rip off! And here come Swagman, pleasant to a fault, lovely room, big generous mattress to sweep me away to the land of nod, cool beer in fridge, cheap & reasonable buffet breakfast at 7Pm then short wait until the bus to Angeles at 1130. Check out is not until 12 so you can spend it in your room watching tv or getting more rest. Didnt bother at all this time looking at the nightlife of Ermita (Mabini, Del Pilar) but its known for being all night & pretty intense, especially the famous LA Cafe and my favourite G Point.

Swagman Hotel”
My wife and I stay at the swagman hotel when ever we are there in Manila. We enjoy the airport pick up sevice, its makes our trip headache free. Once at the hotel we check in, shower and head directly down stairs to the restarant for our steak dinner! They serve the best beef Ive had in my 5 years living in the Philippines

Swagman Ermita”
My room was a quiet room with no window - which is great for sleep. The fan kept me cool in the heat with a little help from the aircon. Wi-fi in the bar was handy place to meet. The hotel bar was almost the only place in town serving beer on election night so was handy for those still in Ermita but no longer staying in the swagman... me :-) Nice location for night life and bars.. Better bars are a little walk along the road to Malate.

Comfortable and adequate ”
Swagman is still a reasonable hotel since under new management of Oriental Hotels. The restaurant/bar has a nice atmosphere and has live music most nights. The staff are very good and helpful. It is still a bit pricey compared with other hotels, but overall it's OK. To be picky, the rooms have some small defects and the water pressure is a bit low on the 7th floor. Good shower with hot and cold water. Like most hotels, there is no plug for the hand basin...(I always pack 2 sizes in my accessories box). The bus service is still 600 peso to Angeles...no increase in 3 years...and available to non-residents. I like the location, close to the bay for cooler air, nearby Rizal Park, Robinsons Mall, and plenty of 'local entertainment '

A nice hotel that looks after its guests.”
The Swagman Hotel is a nice place, provided you can look past the cracked paint and broken, dirty tiles. It is situated in a good location near the heart of Manila. Within walking distance to Rizal Park, Intramuros and the Manila Bay board-walk, it is easy to get to most popular sites. Nice restaurant as well. Shuttles depart from the hotel to several take you around the Philippines.

I upgraded my booking to a family room but we didn't get the room on that day but they promised us that they will reserve the family room when we come back...so they did gave us the family room on January 14-19 of 2011.that was very good..and the staff of swagman are very nice just like before...but the aircon needs to be fix.

Interesting Experience.”
Overall, i enjoyed my stay at the Swagman. The staff were great, food good and loved the Aussie bar. Made one feel at home. The room was ok, quiet, big enough for 2 people and clean. 2 complaints: the shower had a mind of it's own. Either freezing cold or scalding hot. Took 10 minutes of adjusting to get right. A waste of water! The small vent that was meant to be air-conditioning was hardly cool in the Manila heat. It could not be adjusted or turned off, which meant it was blowing on you all night. Came home with a cold. Other then these two problems, would recommend the Swagman, esp. to ex-pat Aussies looking for a home away from home.

Not bad”
Swagmans serves it's purpose. It's a decent place to stay when you need to get to St. Lukes or the US embassy. If you're expecting marble floors and bath robes in your room this isn't the place for you. However if you need a budget hotel close to things and good places to eat in the area (and Starbucks) this place will do it.
