I am on the road for buisness in San Francisco for 3 months now. I have stayed in a dozen hotels in the city over 3 months. The Sweden house hotel is by far. The best one for the value. The staff at the hotel have treated great and have been very helpful.
Great property for a good location and price”
I’ve stayed at Sweden House 5-6 times now. It’ s a decent hotel for the money, especially in a city where you’re rarely going to be in your hotel room. Bathrooms and showers aren’t in the rooms I’ve booked, but they were clean and I haven’t had problems waiting for a shower. I highly recommend!
I had a great stay with Swedish house. The rooms were small but clean and comfortable. We also had a kitchenette. Great location. I felt very safe here.
Good for SF; probably illegal anywhere else”
I've become used to the conditions of most SF hotels so the Sweden house was nothing I haven't seen before. The front desk guy, however, tried to keep my deposit. FIRST he had me wait 4 HOURS to see if I'd get my cash deposit back. (Checked out at 12, got the deosit back at 4pm). He finally tells me I don't get my deposit back and pulls up a photo (from google images it looked like) of bed sheets with blue ink dye stains and tried to say I lost the deposit because of damage to the linens. But, mid-explanation, the maid passed by us and saw the picture and shook her head and said "oh no no that is not from that room. I don't know what room that is from but her room was clean." then she proceeded on her way. I just looked at the desk guy and he handed me my deposit without saying another word.
Good Clean Place to Stay”
Would definitely recommend to friends and family. The price was a good deal.
Excellent value for the money. The location is somewhat undesirable, however, it's right on the edge of unacceptable., You can make it work if you know the City, and for the price, no complaints. It's the most affordable place within City limits.
Really awful place, definitely not like the photos. It's like a shelter”
When we looked for the hotels in the downtown area, this one came out with clean room n decent size of beds as twin bed room. So we chose it without thinking even checking the reviews. But it's really awful and disappointing when we entered the room. First of all, I booked the double room with the option as twin bed room like the photos on the page to show the twin bed room. But the room only had 1 small bed, not twin beds, either normal double size for 2 persons. I went back to ask why the room it's not twin bed. She told me we booked only double room. I showed her my order that I chose the twin bed, but she told me that day was full and there was no other room. Sounds like staying here or leave. And it was 7pm and it's impossible to find other hotels in the evening. So we chose to stay. But the whole night was kind of nightmare. Shower room is very dirty. People yelling in the hallway the whole night. The bed has the problem and we had to fix it. Very unsafe and unclean! Don't stay!
All the charm of the tenderloin”
Every whisper and movement can be heard throughout the hotel thanks to the exceptionally thin walls. The rooms were clean enough, but the shared bathrooms were not. I expect this is through no fault of the hotel but rather the patrons. Also, there was no toilet paper and no lock on the stall! Check-in was... weird. Just weird. The entrance of the hotel was not the easiest to find, just a small door receded from the street with the hotel name printed on the window. There is no parking, so be prepared to spend another $30 to park overnight in the garage next door or across the street if you have a car. I don't know whether $100 could buy a better room in another hotel, considering San Franciscan prices, but the quality of this room could be matched by any $39 highway motel. I'm glad I wasn't staying there alone; if I hadn't had my boyfriend with me I would have found another place to stay. But at least the room was warm! The heating works very well. Some might say a little too well.
Great impressions ”
For a budget accommodation this was perfect, I had slight problems with the initial online reservation and daily continuance of my stay but was resolved. There is a laundromat across the street, no wash here, parking is not available, parking is on public street and needs to be strictly adhered to or you will be ticketed or towed. Other than that everything is great.
Nice room great price
The hotel is located in the Tenderloin, but it is still generally safe. Location is superb, within walking distance of Powell Station. The hotel building may be old, but the rooms, toilets and bathrooms are clean. This is value for money.
Good place for price.”
Good place for price.
I had a pleasant stay.”
Staff very friendly. The property was very clean.
Excellent was only going to stay one night but ended up staying a full week! Was only there to rest, staff was very helpful, cost is considerably low!
Not even a last choice”
check in is at 2:0OPM according to the booking confirmation. Upon arrival we found the front staircase completely filled with people. It took over 3 hours of waiting until I Was able to talk to the front desk. After the manager took quite some time he gave me the news that I should have been told from the beginning, and, more realistically, should have been told before having to wait for three+ hours. the news: there were no rooms available and we would not be able to stay for the four night pre paid reservation I had made ahead of time. The outrageously long wait already meant that we had missed a several hundred dollar event we had intended to attend, as we had luggage that we needed to drop off at the hotel and change into the appropriate attire for the event. with this news, even with a timely checkin, there would be no way that it would be possible to attend the performance. It would simply not be possible to find other accomodations in time. The rest of my review will be on Yelp
Cheap and uncomfortable ”
Prices were cheaper but it was shabby dingy and dirty. No one was to be seen at check in at 6pm, could not enter the door without calling a number, and I did not have a working sum! Was lucky someone staying at the hotel showed up and opened the door to let me in. Rooms were really shabby hotel was creepy and the location had lots of homeless people walking around, felt unsafe outside. If all this doesn't bother you in exchange for cheap rates only then you should stay here.
Pros: Public parking next door. $30/day. Lots of eateries close by such as those around union square. Locked front door unless provided with a key. Very comfortable bed without bed bugs or roaches. Working refrigerator and microwave. Huge television! Dresser and closet for clothes but no hangers. No smelly odors anywhere. Clean and roomy bathrooms especially the one that includes the shower. Wood floor in the room. Tile in the bathroom. Sink inside room. Warm room with window closed. Cool without. Door hooks to hang items. Cons: Location is in a bad neighborhood. During the day and especially at night, people sleeping on sidewalk, loitering and panhandlers. No trash cans on the sidewalk so you will see trash outside. Shared bathrooms. Shower head was not working. Difficult to contact staff. Noisy if window remains open. Thin walls so bring ear plugs. No toiletries provided. Bedding and towels had minor stains. Request extra towels. Room needs a paint job.
Not a 5 star hotel but they don't claim to be”
This is a good place to lay your head for a few nights. The location is pretty sketchy being in the Tenderloin especially at night, so be careful. The rooms are comfortable and recently updated but my cell had pretty bad coverage while I was there. Their WiFi is reliable. There are many "long term residents" who live there, so be prepared to hear shouting and verbal fights while waiting for the bathroom in the mornings.
DO NOT STAY HERE! DISGUSTING HOSTEL TYPE ”
This place was disgusting! It was NOT AT ALL like the photos. The first night we stayed there because we were exhausted but had to sleep on top of the bed because the sheets had black marks. The bathrooms had cockroaches running around and were filthy. There were locals that live in the rooms too and the whole place stinks of cannabis and filth. In the morning we left (we had already paid for 3 nights), submitted a complaint and reported the hotel to Agoda but the hotel didn't even care enough to reply. Definitely no refunds. DO NOT STAY HERE!
Sweden Hotel worse hotel ”
We didn’t end up staying there..location is so ghetto..and we’re trying to check in,the old man said, we shouldn’t be staying at that hotel.we should get a hotel somewhere else.I didn’t know anything in San Francisco so we end up staying at the Hilton which is a lot nicer.
