Great base for a night out”

Right in the heart of Oxford Street you're a few steps from the best spots for a great night out. Booked the balcony room and it was lovely having a few friends over for pre-drinks (there is a bottle shop literally next door) to enjoy the view before we officially headed to dinner, drinks and dancing also literally just across the road.

Budget hotel with rooftop views of Sydney skyline ”

Great value for budget hotel that has a 5 star view of Sydney Skyline and also views of harbour bridge from the hotel rooftop. Not flashy outside of hotel but nice rooms especially if your paying budget price. Lots of restaurants and cafes in Oxford street right where the hotel is. Just 15 minute walk to sydney central station and under 10 minute walk to museum station. Sydney public buses stop just a few steps from the hotel. The only downside is hotel reception only open 9am to 9pm it's not a 24 hour reception. Staff are very friendly

      Balcony room is great!”

The Balcony Room is definitely worth the extra spend (than the deluxe option) - apart from having a fabulous view of Oxford street, the room itself is huge and comfortable. The building itself is old (and I imagine has seen a lot of action) so keeping that in mind, had a wonderful stay for a night out around Oxford St.

      Good”

Stayed in a family room at the 2nd floor. This hotel does not have elevators but only stairs made of wood. The stairs are steep and narrow by design and have to really exert effort with our legs especially when carrying our luggage that weigh almost 20 Kilograms. Make up room only changes the bed sheets, towels and new bath gels and shampoo. It does not include vacuuming the carpeted floor. Hotel front desk staff work from 8:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. only. If we need anything else at night, we have to wait till the next day. Location of the hotel is good. Need a lot of room for improvement in cleanliness and its facilities.

Hotel in a nice location but still need a lot of improvement”

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. We booked a family room good for 2 adults and 3 kids and was given the 1st floor corner room. The room size is big with high ceiling. The bath room is a little bit small but usable. This 20-year old hotel has gone thru some renovation work and repainting as evidenced by some modifications to it's fixtures. However, we feel the paint works is not done by professionals as the quality of the painting is rough and done quickly with little attention to details. Request to make up room in the morning results only to changing the bed sheets, towels plus new bathroom bath gels and shampoo. The room floor with carpet were not vacuumed because our small bits of waste material are still there when we came back that night. The most horrifying and disappointing experience in this room are the daily appearance of cockroaches! Killed 1 roach on the 2nd night and killed another one the 3rd night. Complained to the front desk and got some rebates.

Great location on Oxford Street, Darlinghurst”

The biggest positive is the location right in the middle of Oxford Street, Darlinghurst a few minutes walk from Taylor Square. This location is ideal if you plan on visiting the establishments nearby. Also walking distance to Hyde Park, City Centre and Chinatown. Alternatively, very close to bus and train public transport. A big negative was the air conditioner was not very effective. It does provide mild cool air but only if you stand very close to it machine. It needs repair or replacement. I would not stay here in the Summer as it would be far too hot to cope. Some power points did not work in the room. Luckily I had along enough cord for my phone to reach another power point. Please repair or replace the power points and the air conditioner. Other facilities generally are satisfactory but not fantastic. Overall, main positive is location. Main negative is poor air conditioner and some power points.

Location is ideal. Close enough to conveniences. But because it's close to bars, you could hear the street ongoings. This building is heritage. The staff tells me so. And we put up with rotting wood furniture. We put up with slow cooling air con. And leaky shower that took 5 minutes to adjust. And did we mention there is No elevator? If you're okay with heritage and convenient location, this is a cheap steal. Cheers.

Checking in was nice and easy both times i have visited. Staff were friendly enough to lug our big bags up the flights of stairs. If you've been out drinking like we were, the stairs are not the greatest thing to come home to after a night out. Especially when there's like 4 flights. But otherwise a great place to stay.

      heritage and clean”

the hotel is heritage it doesn't have a elevator, if you have problems going up stairs this place is not for you. the street is a main road going to bondi and its also a socialized area where night clubs and bars are so if you have sleeping/noise problems this place wont suit you. the hotel is right next to a bottle shop and a sexy shop which I find ackward with my kids but not a big issue. there is heaps of restaurants around and few walkable convenient shops nearby. just few shops down there is a shop where you can buy opal (train, bus, tram and ferry pass) which was really helpful as well as a bus stop at the front. we had the family room with a balcony which was on level 2 it was very clean only issue was the window wouldn't close it was slightly open. would suggest to provide a box of facial tissues. make a proper microwave stand. provide cutlery and maybe few plates and soup bowls. might as well install a towel holder and soap holder in the bathroom.

      Reviewed October 02, 2017

Thanks for your advice. We will try to make the hotel better for all the guest. Now we already install a towel holder and soap holder. Welcome to stay in our hotel next time.

      Location

terrible.Very old and needed substantial maintenance. The first room they sent me to after lugging my baggage up two flights of stairs due to no elevator in the building, was occupied by two people very busy ??? Accommodations are just above “hostel” quality. No hot water in bathroom sink. Shower door broken and replaced by a partial shower curtain which keeps ost of the water in the shower. Windows rattle every time the wind blows. TV and WiFi reception were inconsistent. You are also able to hear noise from outside the hotel, the hallways, stairways and room above. However, it is located in the heart of Oxford street and the price is economical.

Perfect, cheap option for my emergency trip to Sydney. ”

Unfortunately the WiFi was nonexistent on the 2nd floor. The room was clean and functional with good, but small bathroom. The bed was ok, but not very comfortable. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful.

      Compromise cheap comfort.”

Cheers.

      Great customer service.”

      Value for money”

Staff were great. Facilities were exactly what i expected for the price. Clean rooms, running water. I was facing out onto Oxford Street, so a bit of noise carried through to the room. But it was not bad at all. Lovely view of Sydney and the bridge from the roof.

      terrible”

      Location

terrible.Very old and needed substantial maintenance. The first room they sent me to after lugging my baggage up two flights of stairs due to no elevator in the building, was occupied by two people very busy ??? Not only did I find this incredibly embarrassing but also a hotel that lacked integrity and concern over what happened. I will never stay there again and would advise any future customers wishing to stay in this area to explore their options

An excellent hotel in a great location”

I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It was centrally located, within walking distance of many attractions and at a great price. What more could you ask.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Sydney Wattle. The room was better than I expected at the price. The staff were friendly and very helpful. I will definitely stay there again and will recommend it to friends.

      Above average”

Accommodations are just above “hostel” quality. No hot water in bathroom sink. Shower door broken and replaced by a partial shower curtain which keeps ost of the water in the shower. Windows rattle every time the wind blows. TV and WiFi reception were inconsistent. You are also able to hear noise from outside the hotel, the hallways, stairways and room above. However, it is located in the heart of Oxford street and the price is economical.
