Great priced hotel in a great location”
I stayed in a deluxe room in the Tai-Pan Hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 23 for two nights. I hadn't been to Bangkok before and knew nothing about the location, how to get around, or what to expect of a hotel in this price range. I was pleasantly surprised by everything about the Tai-Pan. I received an early check in even though I didn't ask for it, the porter / door person transported my luggage to my room on the 15th floor and showed me around the facilities, and the room itself was spacious, clean, and very nice, with a bath, a king-size bed, and a quite nice view of the surrounding neighbourhood. I didn't use the pool or eat in the restaurant, but both looked enticing. I did make use of the in-house spa and received a 75-minute oil massage by an obviously well-trained masseur. All of the staff members I encountered were very helpful and polite and treated me very well. The location was fantastic: right near the hustle and bustle of Sukhimvit, and about five minutes casual stroll to the impressive Terminal 21 shopping centre, but quiet enough to get a restful sleep each night as well. The Sukhumvit MTR station and Asok skytrain station are both right nearby, too, making the Tai-Pan an excellent location from which to explore further into the city. The metred taxi from the airport was a bit expensive for only one person, but for a couple would be fine. But being so close to both MTR and BTS, you can easily catch the airport train and be at the Tai-Pan with only one change of service and minimal walking. I'm very glad I chose this hotel for my first trip to Bangkok, and would happily return in the future.
A great hotel in a central location”
wanting an inexpensive hotel where we could catch the skytrain or the rail system to anywhere in bangkok, we found this gem. the service is wonderful, room was clean and well appointed, bathroom was immaculate and the experience for us was excellent. best of all, the price was superb; about 40 baht for two beds. i would recommend this fine smaller hotel for anyone traveling to bangkok. while across the street are a number of "massage" parlors where each has a a few thai girls usually sitting out front soliciting for customers, they are part of the bangkok scene and are really quite sweet. since this hotel is off sukhumvit road, you are not far from more bawdy entertainment, but this too is part of what makes bangkok one of the great international cities, in my opinion. while traveling around this city of 10 million, i never felt unsafe or threatened--except trying to cross most of the streets. this is a city where traffic is insane, so be aware of this at all times. i would stay at the tai-pan hotel again without hesitation.
An Oasis on Sukhumvit, Bangkok”
Bangkok is a gateway between my long-term job in China and travel, both home and to adjacent Asian countries for travel and holidays. Bangkok is also a destination in its own right particularly for shopping and for the all important visas for those countries which still don't entertain visa-on-arrival. Whatever the reason there is a need for safe, clean and comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price. Tai-Pan has been my first choice for accommodation in Bangkok for more than six years. A mix of guests attracted to Tai-Pan include business people, families and solo travelers and all from a complete mix of nationalities and cultures. All the latter being catered for in the Tai-Pan kitchen. I've had no reason to look elsewhere so far and with the rolling renovation of rooms and facilities I don't envisage changing my preference for Tai-Pan which is an oasis in Bangkok.
Great staff, Great location”
Absolutely the best thing about the Tai-Pan is Bob. He is a British ex-pat who acts as customer liasion and support. Bob knows his way around Bangkok and is invaluable in giving all visitors the low-down on Bangkok night-life and making sure he puts you in contact with the right people in other cities too. Bob went out of his way considerably to help out a couple of French lads who had a bit of a cultural misunderstanding and also helping them out of a bit of a financial crisis. Even if its just for a quick chat and a beer Bob really helps make the Tai-Pan feel like a home from home without diluting the experiences to be had in such a different and diverse culture. My family will be visiting in the new year and I have already recommended the hotel. The hotel is in the heart of the night-life and the day-life too! Also a few minutes from the Asoke Skytrain station which will take you pretty much anywhere you want to go in Bangkok for about 30 baht. Great place especially at the reasonable price.
Amazing place, has everything going for it.”
i've just returned home after my fifth trip to thailand. have always stayed at tai-pan hotel at sukhimvit soi 23, in bangkok, and spent another week there. it's not brand new, but i don't think that is important. i returned from chiang mai early but was unable to book in again at tai-pan because it was full. really disappointed. had to go to solo hotel in soi 2 , more expensive and does not hold a candle to tai-pan. besides having a short walk to mrt, skytrain, soi cowboy, terminal 21, soi 4, etc. etc. etc. one of the best features of the tai-pan is the friendly staff. always willing to assist in any way, always with a smile. the pool was ever welcome after a day of touring or shopping, and then a few drinks at the 'pan pub'or some isaan food cooked and served outside with live music etc. walk a hundred metres in either direction and you'll find an english pub.
an excellent discovery...i'd love to come back to!”
this was my first stay at tai-pan hotel, even though i had contemplated staying there, on my previous trips to bangkok. i must say i completely cherish my decision, given the brilliant experience i had. tai-pan hotel is excellent value for money - for some of the lowest rates around, i got a very comfortable room, free wi-fi internet access, and room service with a perpetual smile. staff at the lobby was very helpful overall and gave me a free map whereby i could plan my trip around even better. at the end, the housekeeping staff arranged for an excellent taxi to take me to pattaya. overall, i couldn't ask for more and will surely be back to tai-pan hotel sooooooooooon!
location location location and they have rare smoking rooms”
The Tai-Pan hotel, located in Bangkoks central area is located on 25 Sukhumvit, Soi 23. The location is relative quiet as the hotel is a bit setback of the road. The rooms are old but well maintained. I guess in total about 30m2 including a bathroom with bathtub. The bed is queen size. A/C is perfect, minibar is standard and room services is available. The hotel restaurant has excellent Thai food. The western food is not as good as the Thai food but still good to order. They have a small nice Gym and an outdoor pool. All clean as well. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. You leave the hotel and have right in front of the hotel multiple "massage Shops" which offer all similar "multiple" services. Soi Cowboy is 300 meter walking distance and offers GoGo bars and nude bars. Subway (or skytrain) is also only 300 meter away. Shopping malls all around. Check TERMINAL 21 which is about 400 Meter direct at the skytrain station ASOK.
Great hotel for the price!”
The Tai Pan Hotel is one of the nicer hotels I have stayed in while in Bangkok. You really do get more for your money than you would expect. You almost get 5 star service and amenities for a 3 star price. They are located within 5 minutes of Soi Cowboy and 10 minutes from the Sky Train and MRT. There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby, but the hotel bar and restaurant are just as good. They had a live band playing in the bar area. Check in and check out were quick and easy. The staff is friendly and their English level is good for the most part. They provide free wireless internet access in the room. The room is a good size with large beds as well. I didn't try to pool, but the water looked clean from above. Room service was quick, the food was good but not too expensive, but some portions were a little small (ham sandwich). Overall a great place to stay. I will stay there again!
Red hot value in a red hot location”
My wife first booked this hotel for our first trip to Bangkok. She was impressed by the generous room sizes and the value for price. On arrival she was horrified by the overt behavior of many local Thai women offering boundless services for any passerby. After three hours of her whining and moaning I realized what a self centered ungracious persecuting piece of work she is. We split and I have discovered the beauty and kindness Thailand has to offer. Thank you to the Tai-Pan hotel for allowing me to extend my stay, dump the Mrs, and find myself a loving caring Thai woman who I hope will one day be my wife. I highly recommend this hotel and if you do come to Bangkok definitely stay in the area adjacent to Soi Cowboy or Nana. Thank you.
Great hotel, perfect location ”
I have stayed in the Tai-Pan Hotel the last 5 visits to Bangkok and will continue to stay there. The hotel is ideally situated to malls, restaurants, nightlife etc..., the staff are always helpful and courteas. The rooms are always very clean and comfortable, I am a smoker and always request smoking room. I personally think the rate is very affordable and they are doing it right. We have eaten at their restaurant and meal was good, room service menu is great and offers a complete variety of choices and they deliver to room in good time. I am booking for my next stay in early January and will be booking Tai-pan again.
Great hotel in a good location”
We were greeted with a cool fruit punch and our bags were taken to our room. The room was on the 14th floor and the view from our floor to ceiling window was lovely. The room was very big and well appointed - bathrobes, slippers, a desk, coffee table, couch, good lighting, a decent-sized CRT TV with many channels (a fair amount in English), the bathroom isn't huge, but was a good size. The shower over bath had great water pressure with no loss of hot water at any time. Some reviewers on here complain about the carpet in the room, we however loved it - after walking around Bangkok all day, we loved being able to have soft flooring for our bare feet. The restaurant was very well priced, and the food was both delicious and well-varied. We were most impressed with the Pad Thai - fresh seafood and genuinely yummy! The in-room wifi is free and VERY fast. If you have a laptop, you should bring it - very convenient. Although we didn't use the pool, it is well situated and the gym is well-stocked. What really made our holiday in BKK though, were the staff. I'd like to mention specifically Win (i hope that is how it is spelled) and Chandra who work in the restaurant and terrace bar (the terrace bar is fantastic - live guitarist all night playing and singing well-known song we could sing along too, but not obtrusively) - both of these staff really looked after us - Win made sure i had my own serve of dragon fruit every morning when i mentioned on the first morning how much i loved it. I was overwhelmed at his kindness. Last but DEFINITELY not least, is Bob from Guest Services. He is so knowledgable about the area and thailand in general and gave us welcome drinks - he really made our trip - what a star! Ask for Bob if you stay. Thanks Tai-pan for a great trip!
Great Location ”
The Tai Pan Hotel is located in the center of Bangkok. It is right off Sukhumvit, in Soi 23. The sky train station is as well located opposite of Sukhumvit Soi 23. Mayor hospitals such as Bumrangrad or Sumitivey are nearby. The red light district "Soi Cowboy" is 3 minutes by foot and Nana Plaza is just 10 minutes by foot or 2 by sky train. The Hotel is a decent Hotel with OK rooms. Wireless works and is free if you ask for it. Food is great and the staff is very nice, friendly and helpful. The Hotel has a pool which is on the roof but small.
Feels a bit like home”
I usually try to find a discounted deal for the Tai Pan to coincide with our return to Bangkok from an overseas trip, and for this reason it is starting to feel like a home away from home. Yes, it's getting on a bit, but it always seems to have had a tidy up in a new area when we return, the staff are very good if not excellent, the rooms are a good size. The bistro area outside the front door is ok, although the food is outsourced. It is reasonably handy to both the skytrain and MRT, about a five to eight minute walk to Asok and Sukhumvit stations. The pool, sauna and fitness area is quite adequate. Anyway, the long and the short of it is, it's worth every cent if you can get a decent discounted rate, but the full tariff is a bit hard to justify. I'll certainly be looking for the right rate on our next trip to Bangkok.
Great Hotel and Great Location”
This was my third time in Bangkok and the hird time in Tai Pan hotel. I love this hotel, it is so conveniently close to everything with a whole street of massage parlours, hair salons, and restaurants and pubs. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are meduim sized with full length windows for a great view of the town, air con is nice and cold as you will need it in that heat, the rooms are freshly made up everyday with clean sheets and towels and 2 bottles of water daily. Wireless internet is included but you have to ask for a password every 2 days for security reasons. Great Hotel above all.
Tai-Pan Soi 23”
I liked the hotel very much. The front desk staff was completely accommodating, always helpful and cheerful. The bell boys/Concierge were a little pushy but I find that everywhere. The location is down Soi 23 from Sukhumvit, you can walk to Suk or Asoke or even Asoke BTS easily. Maybe 10 minutes to Asoke BTS. My room (the upgraded one)had a really nice view of the city. The price was nice as was the free internet. I am finding some hotels internet is very high priced. Tai-Pan is a good hotel in a great location at a good price.
Good value, well run hotel in a handy to all transport position.”
I have just stayed three nights at the Tai-Pan hotel and could not be happier. In fact I have stayed there once previously and have booked to stay again for a couple of nights as I break a longer journey returning home to Australia. The position is excellent, a short walk to the MRT and Skytrain, plenty of reasonable restaurants nearby and just far enough off the busy Sukhumvit Soi 23 to make it quiet. The staff are helpful, breakfasts excellent, and everything clean and in good working order. The only negative thing I can think of is the sleaze in Soi 23, but you soon learn to close your eyes and ignore it.
Tai Pan Great Stay”
I stayed at the Tai Pan hotel on two different occasions in a three week span. My first stay was from May 2, 2010 until May 5, 2010. My second stay was from May 20, 2010 until May 22, 2010. On the first visit I was given the eighth floor we not so good view and second visit the eleventh floor with good view. I have no complaints about either room. Both had in room safes and two complimentary bottles of water. Check in was fast and easy and reception very friendly and accommadating. Breakfast buffet was very good with a good variety. All staff very friendly and ready to assist. Hotel is guest friendly and minutes walk from the night life of Soi Cowboy. Skytrain station five minute walk away. Again this hotel is in a great location from everything including shopping and I would not hesitate to book this hotel again.
5 stars all the way ”
This is without doubt a excellent hotel, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the Manager who I also found helpful when I asked about phases which I could use in Thai he produced for me a sheet with common phases on such as "hello, Goodbye" etc he was very helpful and not like some other managers who you never see he was also about talking to customers, this is a nice touch. We hate in the restaurant and found the food here to be excellent as well, it was like eating at a Gordon Ramsay's Restaurant, presentation was excellent and so was the food. I cannot see anyone able to fault anything at the hotel, my only hick-up was that the key system is now a little dated and could do with a up-grade but this should not reflect on the quality of the Tai-pan hotel, the manager and his staff deserved a big hand shake and I take my hat off to the hotel, well done for the running of a excellent hotel in all areas. Thank You
Well positioned hotel”
Having stayed at the Tai-Pan previously, I knew what I a great deal I was receiving. The standard room is roomy with adequate space for two people. As I like to exercise, having a gym on site was great. But the location of the Tai-Pan adds value to this hotel. Different types of restaurants are nearby and public transportation BTS Skytrain is a short walk away as is the MRT underground. For nightlife, you have Soi Cowboy with its bars and go go's close by. If you want value and Location in Bangkok, the Tai-Pan is the place.
We stayed 3 different times at the Tai-Pan Hotel during October to November 2009. The first time was room 803 as a hotel stay. Second time was room 1412 as a timeshare trade and third was room 1411 as a timeshare trade. Basically the hotel rooms are very similar except the timeshare rooms have a hot water dispenser; toaster; microwave; blender; a few cups and utensils. I know the timeshare rooms have a desk but not sure if the hotel rooms do. The Tai-Pan hotel is located in Sukhumvit 23; close to Soi Cowboy; the Skytrain and the Subway. Location: great location due to the close proximity to the Skytrain and Subway. Area is safe and fairly quiet. The hotel is off the street just a bit so you will not see it from the street. Lobby / Entrance: There is a small bar/restaurant outside possibly linked to the food preparation in the hotel. Small eating area to the right of the entrance inside where breakfast is served. Breakfast is free to hotel stays and available for a fee for timeshare trades. There are stewards in the hotel for baggage assistance. You do need to descend a few steps (or take the steep ramp) to approach the front desk. You also need to ascend a few steps (or take the steep ramp) to get to the elevator lobby (2 elevators and 1 for service). Free welcome drink. Rooms: standard hotel rooms with 1 or 2 beds (which are somewhat stiff); TV, safe, free wireless internet. Bathroom has tub/shower, toilet and one sink. The tub is higher than I am used to so beware of your shins when stepping over the tub. The bottom is also kind of rounded so you need to be careful since normally there is more of a flat surface to stand upon. Shower head can be adjusted on a vertical sliding connection with detachable shower wand. The rooms are average and in decent shape. No resort activities that I have seen as a timeshare. This place is ok for families. Room Notes 803 – only stayed here 2 nights with no problems 1412 – found that there was not much coo
