You are cash on two feet for them”
Within 10 years and almost 50 countries this is the first negative review I’ve ever written. The Location is alright, other than that not a lot more. Mysterious taxes and fees appeared to everybody I spoke to (different ones though ^^), they actually wanted to charge a guy for two days rent for a bicycle cause he asked to get it a little bit before they are officially renting them. For me cause of the snow my bus was running late so I texted them. They told me to pay 4000 yen for checking in later (only cash though.. can only guess why). When I questioned this they got very rude and disrespectful, would neither change, cancel or just send the check-in information via E-Mail- i already had paid, so I ended up having to look for something different short notice. Seems cheap in the beginning but we all ended up paying extra.
it's a nice place to stay and near gojo station. It's just 210 yen per person”
The building is old and unique for me
VEry beautiful place, the house has 180 years and it has a beautiful small garden. The staff is very kind and helpful. The beds are comfortable. In summer or spring should be beautiful and more enjoyable (november is cold, although the rooms have good temperature)
Cosy, convenience and cheerful staff”
5 mins walk to metro, there is 100yen shop, pharma store & supermarket nearby. Staff are nice and helpful, the only thing is shower water... when both shower was occupied the water supply seems not good enough.
It has a lot of good points. It's a bit of a walk from Gojo Station but in a quiet area with some good places nearby. It's an old Japanese home and all of it looks very nice. I liked the turtle and the two young people working there. I found it a little uncomfortable to have so many pairs of slippers for each part of the house. It's partly indoors and outdoors. The kitchen is outdoors and the girl's dorm right by it. When I first went in I thought we may get mosquitoes and sure enough we did. The worker was nice enough to light a mosquito coil for us and bring it to our room. I was afraid they may bother us after he went home but they didn't. That night the smoke from the mosquito coil left a slightly bad smell. In the morning I had a slight headache which was probably due to that. Other times though the room had a nice woodsy scent. I kind of felt like I was camping. One night one family and one group had dinner while talking pretty loudly in the kitchen area about 10:00-10:30 and the noise bothered two of us who were trying to sleep. After talking to them though they started to talk more quietly. There's a rule that people should be quiet after 11pm which is displayed clearly. Some guesthouses ask people to be quiet after 10pm. I think that's better as some go to bed earlier. Travelers sometimes have to leave very early to get to their next destination. The toilets are clean and functioning. The bathrooms are pretty tiny. You can wash your clothes for 100 yen in their one washing machine which worked fine. You must hang them up in a certain area upstairs and you must climb a very narrow, steep staircase to get there. I climbed very slowly because I was a little afraid but it was okay. An old Japanese house is quite different than what Western people are used to. It was nice to have this new experience. I liked that the AC in the girl's dorm worked well. In the front area it was a little hot. I disliked that the price during the holiday was about $1
Good self service guesthouse”
We were in Kyoto for the foliage and booked this guesthouse because my wife wanted a room with a garden in a traditional Japanese house. This place is a self service guesthouse. You make your own bed. They have 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets outside the room (1 toilet is famale only). There's bus stop on the main road about 200m. Supermarket for food, convenient store just around the corner (within 100m). There are 2 shops to rent kimono near by (100m walking). This place is quiet but it is an old house so the wall is thin, you can hear people talking and squeaking sound of the floor. If you're sensitive to sound when sleeping, you better buy ear-buds. The staffs can speak English pretty good and very helpful. They also have bike rental service.
nice historic building”
but they will act like they never met you after you check out. You have to leave the premises. Most places I stay let me leave my bag there, but this place seemed upset that i left my bag and after walking 30 minutes to come retrieve my bag, it was handed to me at the door and I was told to leave (no using the toilet or resting on a stool for a few minutes). I felt very welcome on checking in but very unwelcome on checking out.
Very nice traditional Japanese house. Enjoy the environment. 5min walk from Gojo Station. Steep and narrow staircase. If you have big luggage, it may not be suitable. But 1 thing really need to improve is the kitchen facilities. Very Dirty glasses, bowls, utensils, oven etc... Broken chairs are still letting guests to sit. My hubby nearly fell from the chair. Please throw away the broken and change new chairs...
Beautiful hostel ”
It was beautiful and the location was ok. The staff was kind and helpful, but the kitchen and common area are right in front of the female dormitory so it might be uncomfortable for some people. The hostel was clean and warm, and the showers/bathroom were in good shape.
Great place for a single woman traveller ”
I stayed in the female only dormitory and my experience was very good. There is 8 beds in the dorm, but during my stay there was never maximum number of people in the room. The beds are big and comfortable, they are covered with a curtain so you have some privacy. There are 2 bathrooms and sometimes I needed to wait for my turn but I expected this to happen when I saw that the bathrooms are shared. It is understandable and to be expected that we can queue for a bathroom when we share it with 10 more customers. The house itself is an old style, traditional Japanese house. I personally loved the experience of staying in this old house. There are two gardens inside and a common space where you can stay until 23:00. And, most importantly, the staff is great! They helped me a lot, they were informative and very friendly :) I will come back! :)
Value for money ”
Rooms were small. We booked a room for 5pax . I do not recommend bringing 5 huge luggage as the room will be too squeezy. Not sure why there was such a huge table in the room when we cant eat in the room. Bring your own hair dryer as they lock up the hair dryer after 11pm. Otherwise, staff were helpful and friendly. Overall, it was a positive experience.
Nice Traditional Place to stay in Kyoto”
I do love this house. the staff is very nice, they helped us well. The house is totally lovely, very very nice and I could really feel that I was in Japan. And I could saw the snow from my room. I'd like to come back here if I go to Kyoto again.
Fantastic traditional experience ”
Very clean, quiet and friendly traditional Japanese guest house. My buddy and I were passing through Kyoto and wanted the best value for our short time in the beautiful city of Kyoto. We found it here. Thanks! I will recommend.
Nice location but.. terrible service attitude 不建议这个住宿”
The male staff/owner was especially rude and IMO not helpful. We merely enquire how to dispose of our broken luggage but he flat out rejected to provide any help.We later found out that in Japan, disposal of large items requires special procedures and fees. However, instead of explaining these procedures to us, we were met with his indifference. Note: there were no significant language barriers. The staff can converse well in English. You might be thinking - oh these City Dwellers from Singapore must just be upset that they did not get treated like royalties. We can only say that we were polite when we seek their help. It is up to you whether you want to take our review to heart before choosing this Guest House.
Amazing & welcoming hostel”
This hostel was perfect! I stayed a week there and really felt like home. The staff were friendly and amazing. Very clean and tidy dorm room & toilet. Good location. I particularly like the traditional Japanese style, which highly recommend to those who are interested in Japanese culture!!
Not enough facilities”
Good location but there were about far too many people staying there than what the facilities offer (only 2 showers for the whole building and 2 sinks - one of which is right by the reception entrance). Was about 17 people staying when we were there so meant long queues for shower etc. Layout isnt the best. You have to walk through reception to use the bathroom in the morning. You also have to make your own bed when you arrive which is an inconvenience after a tiring journey. Building does have character though and is good value for money if you are traveling on a budget
Clean & good location ”
Walk to Main Street are bus stop, 24hrs mini market and more restaurant nearby also. With heavy luggage not so recommended except lower floor area.
Superb guesthouse. Came during the winter, the blanket and heating pads provided were lifesavers! Thank you!
traditional guesthouse with friendly staff”
very old wooden house, you can hear noises from other rooms but still comfortable. location is bit far from nearest station. staffs were really friendly and cheerful.
Good choice for backpackers ”
Location is quite close to Gojo subway station; rem to take Exit 1 when you go out. Staff speaks fluent English, easy to communicate. Overall value for money.
