        This place was awesome”

Loved this place, I should’ve have stayed here my whole trip. Service was good, was a bit expensive, but it was definitely a retreat. There was nothing else there except some beach front restaurants. They should call it Yoga retreat though, they had yoga classes and HIIT classes going from morning till night everyday. If they had BJJ classes too I would’ve been in heaven!

        Excellent”

Beautiful place. The resort is on a very quiet beach. The rooms are quite basic for what you pay. I was in a Bungalow Room which is one step above the dorm rooms. I had my own room with a double bed. The room had a fan but was quite hot at night and I found it hard to sleep. There were shared open air bathrooms to use that were full of mossies! The breakfast and lunch was ok. The food and yoga classes were London/US prices so not very cheap for Sri Lanka. I ended up spending quite a lot. I had a manicure at the spa which started chipping before the day was over, so wouldn't recommend the manicure. I didn't stay long enough to do a retreat, as I only had 3 days so I just did the drop in yoga classes in the mornings and late afternoons (there are 2 yoga classes a day). Yoga classes were lovely. I didn't find the other solo travellers or people on retreats super friendly, so I didn't really talk to that many people. There were lots of couples and families staying at the resort.

Yes, it‘s a nice place but it has a bad price-performance ratio. Food is ordinary, most beach restaurants are cheaper with better taste. WiFi is a disaster. Only at restaurant and very slow. Yoga and rooms were good!

The hotel is a little off the main beach, but only a short walk away. It was very clean and the bath room spacious and modern. The staff was very friendly and helpful! The pool area is nice since you cannot swim in the ocean because it‘s rocky. We would stay there again.

Super cozy place, great yoga lessons, great food. we had all in all about 10 hotels during our sri lanka stay: this was the best one! book the full food as there is no restaurant near tallala (but you dont need one) btw: notice that it is not easy to find places for dinner as in thailand or vietnam. most restaurants are for rich tourists and serve lame food, singhalese restaurants close early

Talalla retreat has nice rooms and good pool. Yoga classes were really good. Draw backs is there are lots of mosquitoes so you must be super vigilant with the repellent and rooms are also open to outside so no aircon and beach is abit rough for swimming

Worst stay in Sri Lanka ”

We are extremely disappointed with our stay in the resort. There was a huge gap between our expectation and our actual stay. We booked the bungalow room. But we were not expecting that it has no view at all, is located behind the toilet of the swimming pool, in a remote area. Contrary to what is stated in our booking, , there was no toilets and shower in the room. They are outside in the garden. The wifi was not available in the room and the quality was poor in common area. Staff were not as welcoming as other hotels in Sri Lanka. Finally, we feel a bit rip off with the price 52 USD and abusive exchange rate. The food is buffet canteen and priced at 15 USD per pax almost 2 times more expensive than hotel in the same range. Renting a surf board is 20 USD for half day which is 2 times more expensive than in France. Waves were shore break. In a nutshell, I was our most terrific experience in our 3 week stay in the country!

Very beautiful surroundings and the retreat as such is also very beautiful. And I guess the yoga and surf camps, that has their base at the retreat, are very good. But you have to reserve those in advance, which we didn’t, and you can not join the courses ad hoc. We stayed in the deluxe ground floor villa and I can not recommend staying there for the price they charge. If you are not there for the yoga or surf camps you can get so much more elsewhere - and at the same time avoid the hoardes of mosquitoes and sandflies that are resident at Talalla Retreat. We ended up leaving after one night even though we paid for four nights.

bungalow rooms are a total rip off and is most likely an transformed broom room”

the bungalow room is a scandal for the price. they caculate an entrace into the squaremeters and the room fits exactly the doubble bed. to enter the modquitonet you need to enter from the side of the bed which is not possible because the room is so small. the small floor space did not even allow to open the luggages we had. the room was like an oven super hot. the shared bathroom looked like from a cheap hostel and was aso used by the staff. we decided to upgrade the room before staying even 1 night. best decition ever! no complaints about the deluxe rooms but I truly find that the bungalow rooms are a total scam! the bungallow room is clearly not worth more than 10 dollars a night.

Incredible location, really lovely organic food, great staff, surf and yoga available daily.”

We were actually pleasantly surprised. It was our cheapest stay during our holiday and was a stop between hikkaduwa and being able to head to Mirissa for whale watching on our last day. Amazing pool, huge grounds, spacious room and the beach and swim are just incredible. Easier to swim there than hikkaduwa. Healthy food too and providing both Sri Lankan and European fusion food. For us, we could have done with a bit more sunlight being blocked in the room so as to sleep for a little longer, and it being more tranquil when your sleep gets disturbed. But for some you will absolutely love the room being so open, I am sure. It blends in nicely with nature. Great place for a stay, they also do wellness retreats there and reiki I think. Tallala beach is so lovely and is like a private bay.

        Amazing location”

We stayed here 2 nights, one in a bungalow and the other in a big house (due to their availabilities). The bungalow room was very small and quite stuffy, even with a fan and we had a shared bathroom (which we did know about). We thought this room was poor value for money (about AUD65). The big house room was airy, much more spacious and had a private bathroom for around AUD100. Maybe not great for new couples as there is not much privacy as far as the bathroom goes! We liked this room and was better value. The facilities here were great - nice pool, a stones throw from the gorgeous beach, which is great for swimming not surfing. The restaurant looked good but we found a delightful beach restaurant next door and ate all our meals there - delicious and cheaper. Around the pool and beach there are a lot of 'posers' but i would recommend this place. Ask for a place close to the beach or pool, as both our rooms were quite a walk from either.

The bungalow rooms are good value - especially if you can get one with its own bathroom - ok, no beach view, or fridge, but, on the other hand quiet, small-but-comfortable rooms and access to all Retreat facilities. Not sure I'd be so excited about the more expensive options, not sure how much extra benefits you'd actually get. Efficiently run. Wifi only in restaurant...

We had a wonderful stay in Talalla Retreat. Including free running apes from the surounding forest who visited us in our open-roof-bathroom (yes - really!) The retreat is great for relaxing, meals are excellent and the location is great. A bit too expensive in my opinion, considering I slept in a dorm. Almost all couples and families, pool.is nice and place is very stylish and well kept. I just didnt really feel it very authentic honestly, like.a.sort of brand, american style a bit.

The rooms are very nice. The location is great, One of the nicest beach we saw in SR. The big minus are: the food is decent but expensive and you get tired of it after a couple of days. (little variation in the menu). Luckily there are some cheap restaurants nearby. internet available only in the restaurant and is very slow.

We stayed in the Bamboo hut which was amazing. Very natural and relaxed design. The food at the resort was not much to write home about, in particular, the evening buffet. The restaurant is in the garden area rather than the beach. Would have been nice to have a bar or seating to eat by the beach/sea. The beach is amazing and great place to get away and relax.

Well maintenance do grounds. Rooms are at one with nature. Attended one yoga class, level was aimed at beginner so I became bored fairly swiftly. Surfing is not available at the beach where the retreat is, surf beach is approx. 30 minutes drive. Costs $50 USD for a 1.5 hour surf lesson via the retreat. So unless you are doing the retreat package deal and do want surfing, I would recommend staying at the surf beach as less travel time and much cheaper.
