Comfortable and friendly”
I have been staying at Tamaki Ryokan once a week for nearly a whole year because of my work at a nearby university. The family who runs it is unfailingly friendly, welcoming and warm. They give me "my room" every time, and have considerately thought (without my asking) about what I need in the room. The room itself is basic and comfortable - a typical Japanese tatami room with "unit bath". The bath is a little small and kind of a weird wedge-shaped design, but it is perfectly functional and spotlessly clean. I always look forward to the lovely breakfast, which is freshly prepared with various seasonal ingredients. It is delicious and healthy - I love it! Finally, they are great about giving advice on services in the area -- they have a map that shows the locations of various nearby restaurants, and can offer advice about Kumamoto and the surrounding area in general. I actually don't know if they speak English, but there are various signs around in English, so maybe they do? Tamaki Ryokan is a great choice for budget travellers or people in Kumamoto on business. I highly recommend it.
EXCELLENT !!”
Overall it was a very pleasant stay at Tamaki Ryokan. I always prefer staying in Japanese-style room with tatami bed as it is more spacious than normal modern hotel rooms. Tamiki Ryokan is a family-run hotel. The owner was very polite and warm person who greeted me with a big smile when I arrived. The room was clean, bright and spacious. All basic amenity are included like normal hotel. The breakfast was to my surprise! It was really delicious with very nice presentation. If I would visit Kumamoto again I would definitely stay at Tamaki again :) (TIPS to visitors, from Fukuoka Airport International Terminal, you may take the bus to KUMAMOTO and get off at 味噌天神前 Misotenjin stop. From the stop, it's only a 5-min walk to hotel. 5-min walk to Shinsuizenji JR station if you would like to go to ASO.
Great stay, felt like at home”
Perfect stay at Tamaki Ryokan. Since my arrival, owners made me feel very comfortable and relax, like at home really. Very nice and clean Japanese style room with all the amenities needed. Also very friendly and always wiling to help owners. Located very close to tram station although it is an easy walk to Kumamoto castle. Definitely I'll be back to Tamaki Ryokan if I visity Kumamoto again.
Excellent”
Everything about Tamaki Ryokan is perfect. The owners are super-nice, the room is large and clean, the location is near JR station/tram stations and the price is reasonable. Cannot recommend enough.
A very Friendly Ryokan”
This had the biggest room in our trip in Kyushu. Will easily sleep 4 adults comfortably. The Ryokan provided adequate car parking and is within easy reach of the tram lines as well. It is not in a shopping area and there are minimal facilities but there are more than enough local eateries within easy reach. I was told the central of Kumamoto is within 20 min with the tram lines.
It feels like home”
The owner of Tamaki Ryokan is very nice. This is not a new building but everything is very clean and well maintained. Bus station and city train is less than 5 minutes away, you can leave for the next destination from the bus stop instead visiting the traffic center or JR station.
Exceptional”
Quiet community; Valuable price; Great location,5 mins walk to bus stop Misotenjin has shuttle bus on scheduled times to Fukuoka and other cities of Kyushu, also 5 mins walk to bus stop Misotenjin Mae to Kumamoto Station, about 20 mins walk to visit Kumanmon;Traditionl japanese style room, very clean and nice. Owner and his wife are very lovely couple and appreciate their assistance.
Excellent.”
The hotel is excellent, staff are very friendly. We will definitely stay here again if we go to Kumamoto. The breakfast is extremely delicious and I will highly recommend it to my friends. The owner and her family members made us feel very welcoming. Although they speak a little bit of English, but they are really helpful in helping us to find our way through the city :)
Homely, japanese tatami, great location”
It was nice warm family style hotel. Location is great for local food. Stone throw away to main shopping area and the historical Kumamoto castle. Also, a good base to travel to Aso area.
Warm hospitality, friendly hosts”
This family-run ryokan is ideal for family with young children as the owner also has 2 young daughters. They're equipped with Anpan toys, Kumamon plush toys, kids slippers, high chairs, and kids blankets that made our family stay a pleasant and enjoyable one. The room is large and clean although the bathroom and toilet is a bit small. The host guy made very good homey breakfast at great value, only 500 Yen/ person, if you decide to go, don't miss it. The place is a bit difficult to find, but once you get there, the host offered a hand-drawn map showing the nearest tram station, Miso-tenjin, and local restaurants. There is also a kids playground nearby with swings and sliders, our daughter totally loved it.
Best value for your dollar”
Very kind staff and clean& comfort room. Couple miles from Kumamoto station and 1,500 Yen for taxi. Highly recommended traveler who wants traditional japanese Tadami room.
No hassle stay.”
Standard modern style ryokan - similar to a Japanese apartment actually, so catering to those seeking a Japanese homestyle feel. Clean and tidy room - no problems or issues at all really. Friendly staff - a young married couple with small kid[s] I believe. The owner's English was fine [I live in Japan and am able to speak English and Japanese] so no communication issues with him. I stayed only 1 night, and the only complaint I can make is that the building has a wooden frame construction, so noise echoes easily through the walls.
Lovely little family-run hotel”
This was a wonderful place to stay - essentially a B&B run by a very friendly young family, who spoke relatively good (for Japan) English and made me feel very welcome. The location was perfect for me: handy for both the tram line and the JR rail line heading east; moderate walking distance (or very short tram ride) to Suizenji garden, and a short tram ride into the centre of town where the castle is.
nice hotel”
-many big shopping malls near the hotel -many good restaurants around the hotel -very friendly staff -small and vintage room
Friendly hosts”
The room is very spacious and is absolutely suitable for a family. The toilet may be a bit small and difficult for elder people to use.
Nice Staff and food”
Very nice staff and big room. Good breakfast and comfortable quiet place that not near the main road. If you drive, contact them first cause just can park two car under the house. The car park beside the apartment is not available for vistors.
Great family-run boutique hotel”
I really felt home, with hosts always willing to help and walk an extra mile
cheap price”
the bed is comfortable but the pillow is a bit hard. I need to ask for another pillow from staff who gave me right away. nice stay overall
