Incredibly gracious and sweet staff, clean and spa”

            Location, Value, Staff

When we first made our reservations, I did not know what to expect. I saw the great reviews, but thought "surely, this cannot be as good as it sounds." To our wonderful surprise, it was all that and better. The house is absolutely adorable and has a very tree-house vibe to it. It is in a perfect location, across the street of some of the most highly visited temples in Ayutthaya (including the one with Buddha's head in the tree)! The staff was incredibly gracious and sweet, always willing to answer our questions, help us figure out best options and ways to get around. The rooms were very clean and spacious and came with free water, coffee, bananas, cookies (in the common area). Honestly, it was shocking to see what we were getting for more than an affordable price. I could honestly not recommend Tamarind Guesthouse more and will definitely go back with some friends to visit.

Excellent, friendly, family run guest house”

            Friendly, excellent location

Located opposite one of the main Wats in Ayutthaya the Tamarind is perfectly located for a day of sightseeing. Our room had a large comfy double bed, air con and an 'outside' bathroom - with an amazing rain shower. The guesthouse also runs an honesty bar system with very reasonable prices drinks and free hot drinks and cookies. They also offer a same day laundry service at a reasonable price. One of the main attractions though are the owners. They are always willing to help and will do anything possible. The daughter and husband speak good English but the mother does not - she does have a book with Thai and English that she points to though - very sweet! Just around the corner is Old City Coffee which offers good value coffee/breakfasts/lunch and is very friendly. They also offer bike rental and will pick the bikes up from the guesthouse for you the next day! We booked a transfer to Sukhothai through the hotel which included a transfer to the bus station and a bus to sukhothai which was convieient but would have been cheaper to grab a tuk tuk ourselves and buy a ticket for the same bus!

            Quiet and friendly guesthouse”

            Staff, rooms, location

Tamarind Guesthouse was a great guesthouse close to the main temple ruins in Ayutthaya. The staff were attentive and owner was very nice and friendly. It was a little hard to find but well worth the effort. No breakfast but we had fresh bananas and tea/coffee/cookies anytime. Bicycles were also available for rent, and the guesthouse was in a central location. We booked the deluxe room and was very satisfied. The A/C worked well which is important as Ayutthaya is very hot. Highly recommended!

Haven with everything we needed ”

We arrived super early in the morning after an overnight train from Chiang Mai. We had forgotten to notify the guesthouse but luckily we were welcomed warmly at 5:30am with bottled water, food, maps of the area and the offer of a shower since our room wasn't ready. The guesthouse is right opposite one of the main ruins - where the Buddha head incased in tree roots is. The guesthouse also has bikes for hire at 50 baht/day. The best way to get around. We stayed in the cheapest room but I'd recommend upgrading to one of the more premium rooms since they are decorated so beautifully! We only stayed one night but Tamarind Guesthouse really made the trip to Ayutthaya worth it.

            absolutely lovely! please stay here!”

            Everything. Just. Everything.

staying at this guesthouse was one of the best decisions i have ever made in my life. the owners are incredibly charming and attentive to my needs. i was traveling alone with my 16 month old son and i couldn't have asked for a more perfect environment. the decor and furnishings were wonderful and the free coffee/tea and cookies and fruit was perfect for in-between excursions. the location is right in front of wat mahathat, the most impressive ruins and park in ayutthaya. the owner was gracious enough to drive me to the rail station when i visited the summer palace at bang pa-in (a 15 minute 3 baht train ride away!). the shower at this guesthouse was unbelievable.. my toddler was in heaven. a cool rainshower and a hot hand-held shower with a skylight above. the air-con was new and ice cold, and the tv had lots of channels. the wifi was free and very fast. the grounds of this guesthouse are like a hidden oasis, with ponds and fish, just gorgeous. and the best night market ever was a 5 minute walk away. before we left, the owner carefully wrapped us up some fruit for our journey and waved us goodbye. i just can't believe how wonderful this place is and i cannot wait to return. tamarind!!!!!

A great hotel with a fantastic host!”

            Superfriendly people and superb location!

we had a fantastic time in ayutthaya and this was partly because of the great people at tamarind guesthouse. we got a lot of information upon arrival, a quick friendly tour and bikes were ready for us to use. they helped us with organising all the sites we wanted to see and arranging a tuktuk back to the train station at the lowest possible price. besides the staff, this is also a nice hotel, we had a good room with a private outdoor shower, which was nice. definitely recommended!

            Comfortable, affordable and perfect”

            Location, Owners and price

The guesthouse is a nice, restored teak family home perfectly located just across the street from the main entrance to Ayutthaya's ancient ruins, making it easy to get there early before the crowds (rent a bike for about 50THB to tour the ruins). The best dinner option is the night market (3min. walk from the guesthouse) serving good, authentic Thai food. My room was clean, comfortable and well maintained with a/c and a TV, a surprisingly nice touch for such a low price! As others have mentioned, the family who owns/runs this place are fantastic, friendly and super helpful. Tamarind is an excellent place to stay when in Ayutthaya.

Great Guesthouse in a Perfect Location”

            Location, Quiet, Comfort

I have only praises for Tamarind Guesthouse. It is located merely 5 mins walk from the main Ayutthaya ruins. With such a great location, you would think it is in a busy area. Well, it is not on the main road, on an off-road inside, so it is very quiet and peaceful. I had apparently chosen the most luxurious room and it was extremely large, clean and comfortable with attached bathroom. The room have large windows that open out to the verandah so I keep the curtains closed for privacy but I think there is hardly anyone on the verandah, so it was not noisy either. The receptionist at the desk when I arrived was exceptionally welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended.

nice and clean rooms, friendly personal”

clean room with aircon, comfortable bed, "outside" bathroom

We stayed 2 nights in one of the Tamarind Guesthouse`s standard rooms. The room was really nice and clean. One of the biggest ruines is really close, just on the other side of the road, max. 5 minutes walk and there is the possibility to rent a bike (50 baht/day/person) to visit the rest of the city. There is no breakfast, which is not really disturbing, because there is a nice coffee bar with delicous breakfast almost next to the guesthouse, and just in case there is drinking water, coffee and little biscuits for free at Tamarind. The personal was really nice, they helped us by ordering taxi, tuk-tuk. They also borrowed us plates and cutlery and let us dinner in the "common area" of the guesthouse, when we took dinner from the night market (there is no restaurant in the guesthouse). In spite of a main road close to the guesthouse, it is quite calm, so excellent value for the price.

A beautiful guesthouse with beautiful owners”

Free tea, coffee, fruit and biscuits. Wonderful staff. Relaxed atmosphere.

After 9 months of travelling the Tamarind is the best guesthouse we have found. It is perfectly located for exploring Ayutthaya. Neung and Koy were the most perfect hosts, always on hand with advice on where to visit and how, they even went as far as to buy us water pistols to celebrate songkran. The guesthouse is a beautiful old wooden house so it does creak a little when you walk around, this does not effect the enjoyment of the stay so long as everyone is respectful. I would return to Ayutthaya just to stay at the Tamarind.

            Beautiful guesthouse with caring hosts.”

The owners! They are such lovely, welcoming people.

I have stayed at many different guesthouses in Asia, but none quite like Tamarind. The house itself is a beautiful teak house full of character and charm (yes it is creaky - step lightly!) with comfortable rooms. The outdoor bathroom was great during the day, although with mosquitos at night a little bothersome (we stayed there during rainy season). The bed was comfortable, not too firm. There is a common fridge to use, and tea / coffee / water provided complimentary (two water / day). The location is good, as it is tucked away in a quiet alley but right on the edge of the ruins. There are a couple restaurants near by, as well as a night food market in the evening. What made this guesthouse really stand out was the owners! Our train was two hours late coming in from Chiang Mai, but they were awaiting our arrival and greeted us in our tuk tuk with a big smile and umbrella since it was raining. Since we were late, and they were worried about us being able to get dinner, they drove us up to Malakor to make sure we got some food. When we had questions about train times, they had a plethora of schedules available. Bike rentals were arranged easily and waiting for us to use in morning. They even took the time to drop us off at the train station. For the few days we stayed at Tamarind, we really felt at home. Thanks!

            Exceptional”

We found the tamarind Guesthouse on Agoda a place that was close to all the temples we wanted to go and visit. I booked the wrong dates and was unable to change them but when we called the guesthouse they were amazing! they allowed us to book with them directly for the dates we actually wanted and didn't charge us anything extra. when we arrived everything the rooms were all ready, the staff extremely helpful, giving us guide books, showing us the rooms, helping with the bags and offereing us free coffee, tea, and fruit. Its a small quiet guesthouse with family rooms available at a very very good rate. And they are directly across from a beautiful old temple. 2 steps away from a lovely restaurant, market and coffee shop. The owners even gave us a lift one night to see the temple all lit up at night. I would definitely recommend a stay here and can't wait to go back. Perfect service and amazing room!!!!

Native Thai house just across the ruins”

            1) The temple ruins just in front of the house; 2) the best restaurants in the city located near by; 3) the total feel and look of the house: stained glasses, polished wood, a nice garden, free coffee

The location was perfect! Although the guesthouse didn't offer meals, we enjoyed brunch at the Coffee Old City which is just a few steps away and dinner at Malakor located 1 block away. Both are top-rated restaurants in the area. The top ruins are just across the street. For the other must-see places, we rented bicycles for just 50Baht from the guesthouse. Aside from this service, they also helped us to get a tuktuk at a reasonable to bring us to the train station at around 5am. The owners are very helpful in assisting and giving us valuable information. They're cheerful and made us feel welcome. Wifi is free, just in case you need to work or have to do some travel research. Coffee and snacks are also free for 24hrs; useful for staying awake if you need to finish something. They have a nice veranda but we didn't get to enjoy staying there as we were very tired from cycling around. This nice veranda reminds me of our ancestral house in the Philippines. :) Everything about the house was nice, except perhaps the hard bed. I'm used to softer ones but I guess the beds in the Tamarind Guesthouse are pretty standard for Thai houses.

Best place to stay in Ayuttaya”

            Location, hospitality, original architecture

We spent 2 nights at the Tamarind guesthouse. My wife and I traveled with our 5 yrs daughter and our in laws. The place is very original. A traditional Teak Thai house renewed with some modern addition (colorful windows) and a lot of taste. Location is fantastic, just in face of the Historical Park and 100 mt from the Night market. The owner is a very enjoyable person to talk with. I would definitely get back there if I will spend again a night in Ayutthaya. A little advice: if you a party of 3, ask for the room 109. With its beds in the mezzanine, it feels like sleeping in a Thai chalet (amazing) and in the morning you can open the window and see the temples from your bed.

Clean, kindness of the staff, beautiful

We stayed one night at Tamarind Guesthouse: it is a small fascinating accomodation in Ayutthaya, very clean and comfortable. The staff very kind with a good level of English, they can help you organizing your stay. At Tamarind you can also rent bikes and organize your pickup to move to other locations such as Kanchanaburi. We recommend Tamarind Guesthouse

I extended my stay here in Ayutthaya because the atmosphere was so lovely and unique (my room felt like a treehouse with the jungle out the window and the leafy green common space terraces), the location was excellent (Wat Maha That is literally across the street!), and the staff was so wonderfully friendly. I really hope to come back one day :) Thank you, Tamarind Guesthouse!!

            Great location and friendly owner”

            Location, personal touch

I stayed one night at Tamarind Guesthouse in Ayutthaya. The location was perfect, especially to see the ruined sites at night. Also close to the food market. Rental bicycles could be rented and this was a very good way to visit the sites which are not located too far apart. One small downside was that the shower was a little cold by other Asian standards so take a shower early in the evening. Beautiful place to stay and I would stay again.

            As good as everyone says”

The three best things about this stay were 1. The friendly and helpful owner 2. The cleanliness 3. Comfort and decor

I stayed at the Tamarind for three nights and it was as good as all the reviews say it is. It's a beautiful guesthouse, and my room, room 104 was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. The owner could not have been more friendly or helpful, arranging tuk tuks etc. The location was great aswell, close to two wats, and two great restaurants Old City Coffee and Malakor are close by. I agree with previous reviews that the walls are very thin, but I was lucky that the three nights I stayed there I had quiet, considerate neighbours, but I would pack ear plugs just in case.I loved Tamarind, and can easily say it was the best guesthouse I have stayed in in Thailand, and exceptional value for money.

Some of the nicest people in the world :)”

Koy and Neng who run the guesthouse were very friendly and helpful when I first met them 2 years ago. This time, when I accidentally left an important backpack on the train which brought me to Ayutthaya, Neng was kind enough to come out and keep me company at the train station waiting for them to send the bag back, and brought me a charger to charge my phone at the same time. I have never experienced such kindness in the setting of renting a hotel or guesthouse room! I felt like they cared about me like family. Additionally the rooms are furnished very nicely, free coffee, tea, and snacks are provided, my room was cleaned even though I didn't ask for it after one night, and they are more than happy to give directions and suggestions for everything one might want in Ayutthaya. Five stars all the way and I will look forward to staying there again! :)
