Tan Hsiang B&B is a cozy little hotel located on the Zhongzheng road in Ita Thaho, maintained with warm hospitality. Travelled with my friend. The staff were courteous, helping with extra care (because of our linguistic barrier) and gave an outline of the to-do list. Room was well maintained with all basic amenities and toiletries ; The roof-top provided a good view of the lake at night and the buildings on the other bank (Shuishe pier). Breakfast had congee (rice porridge) with many additional items to add to, like roasted peanuts. etc., bread toast + jam, tea, coffee. My friend knew Malay and could communicate with the Indonesian staff in the hotel. That was an added benefit. An important point is it is budget-friendly. Overall: Has the advantages of a hotel over hostel but within the same budget!

Great Hotel, Awesome Owners”
My wife and I stayed at the Tan Hsiang Yu B&B in early June 2012. The owners were incredibly helpful and gracious. We arrived hours before check in but the owner came to the bus station and picked us up, stored our bags, provided us with Tea and snacks, and recommended activities for the day. After check in, the husband and wife owners recommended a restaurant and drove us to the location. The next morning, the husband drove us around Sun Moon Lake for over 4 hours showing us his favorite spots and off the beaten path attractions. I cannot say enough about how great the stay at this B&B was! The owners speak Chinese and Japanese and will call their daughter, a fluent English speaker, to translate if needed. This B&B is on the less populated side of the Lake but the owner's kindness and willingness to help with transportation and planning activities more than makes up for it!

Friendly Family Owned B & B”
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Tan Hsiang Yu B &B because of the friendly staff. It was my parents first time to Taiwan and the owners made them feel very welcome, even though they spoke little English and we spoke no Chinese. After seeing that they didn't eat much of their Taiwanese breakfast on the first day, the couple went out of their way the following morning to prepare a more Western breakfast for us. They also invited us to tea, showed us pictures of their trip to Canada and dressed us all up in traditional Aboriginal clothing, the photos and memories of that morning will last a lifetime! I was very happy that my family and friends got to experience the friendliness and hospitality of the Taiwanese people. The beds were comfortable and a big comforter was provided to keep us warm on the chilly nights. Lugging our luggage up 3 flights of stairs was a bit of a problem, but that's pretty standard for most smaller B & B's in Taiwan. If it's your first time to Taiwan and you want to experience the local hospitality, this is a great place to stay.

Lovely hotel, small rooms but excellent service”
Tan Hsiang Yu B&B is situated next to the aboriginal village, at the edge of Sun Moon Lake. It´s run by an older couple who converted their home to a B&B. They go out of their way to make you feel at home, with plenty of tips and an excellent breakfast. The rooms are on the small side, but very comfortable. If you come by car, there´s plenty of space to park your car opposite the hotel.

Great 'Sun Moon Lake' Budget Accommodation ”
We wanted to get away from the busy town at Sun Moon Lake. Tan Hsiang B&B is located closest to the Aboriginal Village, so there are less crowds, and decidedly NO busloads full of mainland tourists. Easy to find along the main road, nestled beside the mountain. Rooms are large and spacious, clean and comfortable. The bathroom is also kept spotless, yet basic amenities. We were pleased most by the wonderful Chinese buffet breakfast provided. Very tasty.

Excellent Stay with Attentive Staff, Homely Feel”
Highly recommended to stay there. If i am going to Sun Moon Lake again, will stay back at Tan Hsiang Yu as i enjoyed the warmness of the staff there. The boss even treat us to some red tea and red tea biscuits, and when we can't go to the theme park due to the earthquake, the boss even drove us there and back for a small fee. Definitely going the extra mile.

Tan Hsiang Yu B&B is located in a easily accessible area within walking distance from the port. You can also get there by bus. The bosses are friendly and will give you advice on Things to Do and places to go around Sun Moon Lake. Rooms are a bit dark and old. But the friendliness of the staff makes for a pleasant stay.

The nicest, kindest guesthouse owners ever!”
The location of this guesthouse is good! It's only a short walk to the Ita Shao pier (to take the river ferry) and also just 5-min away from the cable car station to go to the Nine Tribes Cultural Village. I think what made my stay truly memorable was the warmth and hospitality of the guesthouse owners.. They are genuinely concerned about all their guests and won't hesitate to go the extra mile to make the stay comfortable! As I was travelling alone, they would wait up for me to return. The owners also issue all guests with free all-day river ferry tickets (valued at 300TWD each). I highly recommend Tan Hsiang Yu guesthouse to all travelers who wish for a "homestay" experience in Taiwan!

best hospitality from a B&B Hotel”
we have been warmly welcome by the owners of the hotel, who picked us up from the pier upon arrival, gave us all the details of what to visit in 3 days,including discount vouchers for bike rental and boat fare. They also invited us for home cooked dinner and supper, with local foods and snacks, and even their collection of imported Whisky! We really enjoyed the discussion with them. We had the honour of meeting a local political representative who is also one of their family members who explained some background of how the surrounding villages are governed and how the local elections are run, that added our understanding of the town. Breakfasts are simple but we were served with some vegetables from the hotel's own garden, need not to explain how fresh the veges were. The room was clean and equipped with wifi, TV and heater. Towels and basic toiletries are provided too. The lady owner helped us taking some photos in traditional ShanDi clothes which were made by herself. Her husband had driven us to Taichung Train Station in their Mercedes Benz at only 2000 NT which is the same price as ordinary taxis. We really look forward to go there again and we highly recommend this Minsu/ B&B hotel to any travellers who want to experience the warm hospitality of locals at Sun Moon lake! 謝謝你們的熱情款待及地主之儀，讓我們的假期過得非常愉快！這是一所難得的民宿，大家不妨考慮下榻，可了解當地樸素及熱情的風俗人情

Great B&B and good quality of service”
I fully recommend this B&B to those travel to Sun Moon Lake and plan to spend one night over there. The owner wait for us even when we reached there late (around 12am midnight). They changed a bigger room for us on the next day after they found out that the original room is too small for us to add an extra bed (without asking us to pay for extra dollar for that bigger room). Hard to find it anywhere else for such a good quality of service. Many more great things experienced in this B&B. Can't explain all inside here. You need to come and experience it yourself!! Definitely will stay here again if we travel to Sun Moon Lake again next time!!

"Nice set up"”
the best thing about this place is the owner. he's a really nice retired bloke who has turned his huge house into a b&b. he doesn't speak english but if your chinese is good he can really help. he will pick you up from the bus station, pick you up if it's raining, take you to main attractions etc. he can organise tickets to different attractions as well as a boat ride for you. breakfast doesn't have a huge variety but is still good. the b&b is really close to the area that has all the shopping and eating, it's also close to where you catch the boats. the rooms aren't the biggest but are warm and cozy. very well kept. a++++

friendly owners and cozy hotel”
I went there with a friend and stayed over for one night from 19th Sept to 20th Sept. The owners seemed really friendly. The lady boss told us that we could have just given them a call and she would send a car to fetch us from the visitor centre, which we thought was really nice. This hotel could be a little difficult to get to if you didn't do enough homework beforehand. After we have alighted from the Shuishe Visitor Centre, we took a ferry across to Ita Chao Visitor Centre since we didn't want to spend too much time on transport as we were running behind our schedule. If you are not in a hurry, perhaps you can take the bus which I do not think would take you too long as well. However, there is a tour guide introducing the different parts of Sun Moon Lake to you if you choose to take the ferry. Since this is a B&B, we thought we have to bring many amenities on our own, however the hotel did provide us with all the basic amenities hotels provide. There is a TV as well as free wifi. The lady boss also spent some time sharing with us what are some of the things we could do on the island. When she heard that we wanted to go cycling, she introduced her friend's shop to us and told us not to accept the offer if he charges us beyond a certain amount. She also gave us bananas she has grown herself. Really friendly and sincere person.

The location of the hotel is a on the opposite bank if u arrive to sun moon lake by bus. Just give the lady boss a call, she provides fetching service Near the hotel is the town area for the shao tribe, boat riding harbour and cable car service to nine tribe cultural village( a theme park based on local tribes culture). Do note that most shops and attractions closes early( 5 for attractions and 8 for shops). Rooms are clean and comfortable. Do remember to check the weather temperature before going to sun moon lake as it varies widely.

on the edge of this tiny tourist town. the owner is related to a tea producer, so it's no surprise the reception desk is behind the tea shop and this B&B serve the best tea for breakfast. our room has a lake view and is clean, with a interesting deco. morning walk by the lake is very enjoyable.

Excellent Service provided by the staff ”
Had a wonderful stay there, if i am going to Sun Moon Lake again, will definitely stay there. The bosses were friendly and even invited us for some afternoon tea. On the 2nd day, we were suppose to go to the theme park but the cable car was affected by the earthquake. Was thankful that our plans were not affected thanks to the kindness of the bosses, who drove us there for a small fee.

Nice spacious room for 3 of us. The lady boss of the hotel is very friendly and helpful in introducing the area around Sun Moon Lake. She was also able to pick us up from the Itacho Ferry Terminal, and also ferry us to the Cable Car terminal.

The address of this hotel is very misleading. The nearest bus station is located at Sun Moon Lake station and 15 minutes driving distance to the hotel. Is best to contact the hotel when you arrive the Sun Moon Lake station for the hotel to pick you up. The lady boss is very friendly, to have tea with us and lend us her native costume FOC for photographing.
