Surprisingly nice hotel located off main street.”

Clean hotel that rents Scooters and Cars.

Tapae Place Hotel turned out to be a much better hotel pick than the other hotels being considered in the area for two reasons: 1) they are located RIGHT NEXT TO a major temple that you can walk right outside the lobby and over to see in about 50 steps, and 2) they RENT scooters and cars for LESS than you can rent elsewhere in the area with NO extra paperwork. This feature was a very nice option that was used daily [100 gear to 200 automatic baht/day for a scooter, and 1500baht/day for a small car --all of which came with a FULL GAS tank which you have to refill to full before turning it back into them. So, scooter was used for a week, and during that time, it was mine to use as I pleased and I filled it full at the end of week before check-out. No more taxi rides to pay for (if you do not know how to ride a scooter/moped, learn BEFORE you come to Thailand, your pocketbook will thank you, enough said). The staff, especially the older woman who looks like the owner/manager/main boss is very nice and speaks English well-enough to help you out with everything from extra towels for your room to directions on how to get to somewhere. The halls to the rooms remind you something of a school dorm hall, but once inside the rooms, they are well kept, clean, and nice attired for the price you are paying. People who complain about this place are either cheap-skates or difficult in themselves. Having stayed at 11 hotels before this one, it can be said, overall, you get your money's worth. A note on taxi drivers: make sure you tell them Tapae Place Hotel, NOT Tapae Inn. If you just say "Tapae," they will drop you off on the main street and you will get to walk another 1km to the Tapae Hotel because you were not clear enough. Be clear and save yourself a walk with baggage.

Good hotel, good location - to recommend”

      Location, rooms, breakfast

I always try to find a hotel in the center of a place to have the sightseeing points in walking distance. This time I found it – the hotel in a perfect and quiet location in a side street near Taphae Gate (entrance to the old city), the Night Bazaar (many shops and restaurants all days in the week)and many beautiful temples around, with Songthaew (van like vehicles with rows of seating in the back) driving in the very close main Tha Pae Road to the major sightseeing places that are more far away not in walking distance (e.g. the Zoo or the Doi Suthep). In the hotel you find good rooms and a good breakfast buffet with Western and Asian food. Good condition of the building, clean rooms with all you need, good service. This hotel is really to recommend, the next time in Chiang Mai I will return.

value for money, lovely room, wonderful view

...this hotel turned out to be quite a nice surprise!! My room was nice and spacious; comfortable and well-furnished... The bed was soft and big...and then I must have had one of the best views in Chiang Mai, as the room was overlooking the adjacent Wat Buppharam. The staff was friendly, attentive and yet discrete... And you can't beat the location...located in a quiet soi, off Tapae Road, in the shadow of Wat Buppharam; you have a lot of traveller-friendly restaurants and the first four or five temples, walking down towards Tapae Gate and the old city - which is just some 10 or 15 minutes walking away... ...walking in the opposite direction, you're even closer to the busy night-market... And walking right, you're minutes away from the busy night-life of thanon Loi Khro. The hotel is certainly recommended....value for money. I ended up staying one more night than planned, at the same rate, as I had paid on the inter-net....

      A very pleasant stay.”

The cleanliness; the attentive staff; the ambiance.

Tapae Place Hotel is an older facility, so some things were dated and a little past their prime; however, the place, and its fittings had a certain romantic charm. The outdoor dining area (in addition to an indoor area) was very charming. The first thing I noticed was the size of the room. It was almost twice the size of rooms of this price in other hotels in which I have stayed. then I noticed that it was carpeted. I'm not a fan of carpets in a place shared by others, so I checked it carefully, and was pleasantly surprised: it was as clean as it would have been in my home! Hats off to the housekeeping staff, not only regarding the carpet, but to the condition of my room in general! I found all of the staff to be very polite and helpful. Transportation was a two minute walk away, but walking to the walled city and places around was less than ten minutes. To sum up, I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

      Great quiet location”

The Tapae Place is located close enough to the Tha Phae Gate to easily walk and far enough from the hussle and bussle to have a quiet stay. The TV was a bit dated when compared to similarly priced hotels, but since I wasn't in Chiang Mai to really watch TV it wasn't really an issue. The air-conditioning worked great and the breakfast was good. I would consider staying at the Tapae Place Hotel again for sure.

Great lobby, the rooms need an upgrade”

Close to Chiang Mai City, the lobby looks five-star, helpful staff, good value for money

My wife and I stayed at the Tapae Place Hotel for four nights. It is advertised as a budget hotel so when we first arrived and walked into the lobby we couldn't believe we were in the right hotel because we'd paid less than $30 a night: it looked so five-star in appearance. Once we got to our room, however, we felt that we had got what we paid for. I understand that the upper floors are currently undergoing renovation, and the entire hotel, except for the lobby needs a make-over. This could be a very nice hotel. There is a hotel restaurant with a fixed-price breakfast for 80 Baht (less than US$3), but it wasn't very good, so we recommend going out to eat. The hotel is well located near the old Chiang Mai walled City and a ten minute walk from the night market and the river. Good value for what we paid.

      Good Value for Money”

      Excellent Location, Good price

The Tapae place represents good value for money. The rooms are large enough, comfortably air conditioned, have multiple cable tv channels, and a bath tub. The hotel is centrally loated within walking distance of both the Tapae gate area and the night bazaar. The hotel is a little dated and the breakfast basic but for the price it is a very good option in this part of Chiang Mai. I would certainly stay there again.

      Good value for money”

Tapae Place Hotel is ideally located within walking distance of both the Tapae Gate area and the Night Market. Additionally it is located in a small soi (street) off the main road so there is very little noise. Being an older hotel the property severely lacks internal air conditioning in its common areas. The foyer, lobby, and corridors were extremely hot in an unusually warm Chiang Mai April. The hotel has however airconditioned its restaurant and this was a welcome break from the heat during breakfast. In spite of signs indicating that the restaurant is open until 10pm, It did not appear to be open at all for dinner. This was disappointing on our first evening as we had planned to not go out. Fortunately though, the hotel is located within easy walking distance of several eating options. The breakfast buffet is very basic but adequate and at 100 baht if not included in your room tariff you cannot be too picky! The room rates represent excellent value for money. We booked a suite as this was still a very reasonable rate and the room was excellent. It had a separate sitting area, rooftop terrace, bath tub and shower, cable TV with 80+ channels, free wi fi that worked very well and best of all air conditioning that kept the room beautifully cool.

      a sound choice. ”

      location, value, parking.

Had a good 3 night stay here. The location is great, half way between Tapae Gate and the night bazaar. The hotel is a bit on the old side but the room was clean and comfortable. It had adequate space even with an extra bed in place. On the subject of extra beds the charge for this was far more reasonable than many other hotels I looked at while searching. Breakfast was pretty good, a reasonable selection of thai and western staples. Reception and housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful and the tour desk must do a good job because there were plenty of pick ups every morning. in summary, for the price, this is a good choice. Quiet and comfortable room (4th floor), great location and parking underneath for those with wheels. Oh, and there was a full bathtub in the room, too!

      Value for money...”

First of all, I reach CM around 9am and they allow early check in. The hotel is near to everywhere, night bazzar, massage, thai foods templers. For 7-11 need to walk for about 7 mins and 10 mins to tapae gate. Breakfast is quite good, but need to pay 100 bath if your room not include breakfast but still consider cheap for buffet. My room is at level 4 with city view, the place is very silent althrough it is just few steps away from the main tapae road. The only comment is some facilities a bit old, but til workable, aircond is cold and hot shower is good enough. Will stay back again for next visit.

Great location and easy to navigate around”

convenient location, safe, clean, wifi, hot water, big windows, cable TV, lift, free internet at front desk, helpful hotel staff

i enjoyed staying at the tapae place hotel because it was quiet but just off the main road so easy to get songtaws anywhere. the main road had lots of eating places and both the local market - warawot and the sunday night market were just a short walk away. the room was clean and the hot water worked well in the shower. the lift worked well. it was also well known so it was easy to find for local songtaw or tuk-tuk drivers. i had a good view of chiang mai from the window and even some fireworks one night!

New Management and now a swimming pool.!!”

I found the staff courteous and attentive and the room very clean and tidy. The swimming pool is a new welcome addition . The restaurant was in the process of becoming operational and I will definitely partake of its offerings when completed. The lift access was superb as i didn’t have to haul my heavy luggage up stairs. The location is in a prime position, close to Thapae Road Sunday markets and Wararot market and the Night bazaar. Truly a hidden gem I didn’t want to share but that’s being selfish. Enjoy your stay and I hope there’s space there for me next time as this hotel will be my go to place while visiting Chiang Mai.

      Great all round hotel”

Location, quiet, great value for money.

Hotel about 15mins from the airport - 200bht with air con taxi. Great staff, very good level of English, very helpful & attentive. Wi-fi was solid, TV had plenty of stations. Rooms were of a large size, view, air con good & quiet. Bed was comfortable, just advise cleaners to come late if you're a night owl. Guests are fine. Laundry 50bht/kg. Easy 10min walk to night-life on Loi Kroh Rd or Chang Klan Rd for shopping. 10min walk to Tapae Gate & Sunday market. Easy access anytime for taxis or tuk tuks. 7/11 5min walk away. All round well priced hotel, no complaints, would stay here again no worries.

      Good value”

Good location, quiet, comfortable rooms, friendly staffs

We spent 2 nights in Tapae Place and we were all satisfied for reasonable price, friendly staffs, clean rooms with everything worked fine. The hotel is near to Thapae Gate and Night Bazaar which are the heart of Chiang Mai. Price for renting a car, a motorbike or a car with driver also not expensive.

Nice, but overpriced in my opinion”

      Location, elevator, large refrigerator

It is a very nice place, and the bed was very comfy. I wanted to extend my stay, but the manager would not give me the same rate. The staff would not allow a 30 min late check out. They offer a lot of services, such as motorbike rental and transport to the bus station, but like the hotel itself, I found these services to be overpriced, compared to rates elsewhere in Chiang Mai (motorbike rental shops, taxi, etc). The cleaning staff were, however, very pleasant and quite thorough.

      Great place for the price”

For the price, this place was pretty great. It was just a short walk to tapae gate. Breakfast was okay and staff was always friendly. As someone traveling alone, I felt this was a nice balance price-wise between staying at a hostel (not my thing) and staying at a more upscale place. The only downside is that tuk tuks are not waiting on this street like they are in Loh Kroi, but they pass by fairly quickly nearby.

Nice hotel near the old quarter”

Big rooms, comfortable bed, good location

I've already submitted one review but we had a split stay due to a jungle trek. Our second stay with Tapae was mostly fine. It's a decent hotel, clean and close to everything we needed. Only two things we didn't care for - the shower was quite inconvenient because the shower-head is mounted only about half way up the wall. So, if you're not a child then it's not easy to shower there... really don't understand the reasoning on that one. The other thing was a local lady working at the desk who was a bit rude about our laundry not being done on time, and it was their mistake. We got everything sorted but she was not being the least bit helpful about it. I'm sorry, but your JOB is customer service... anyway, that was just a little thing in the grand scheme and this hotel is a good place to stay overall. If they fix the shower thing, it'll make it that much better!

      Comfortable Budget Stay”

      1. Helpful staffs 2.Great & strategy location 3. Comfortable room

The water system was broken, unable to use hot water system on the first night. Although it was new year holiday, the hotel able to fix it on the next day. Helpful staff tried to repair the water system at midnight instead of waiting the technician on the next day. Breakfast buffet is just nice with few choices. Everything is good especially the location. Easy to access to attractive location around Chiang Mai city.
