yes best shower in Zanzibar”
This hotel is really a great value. Clean, wonderful rooms, with an amazing shower. Great staff overall. Food was decent and reasonable. Location is great and the pool looked wonderful. Have a great seating area with high speed fans which was cool and relaxing. This hotel also is accessible for travelers in wheel chairs as they have ground floor options. There is no alcohol at the hotel. Out of the three places I stayed in Zanzibar this hotel had the best rooms by far!
Finally a good shower in Zanzibar!”
This hotel was wonderful. I spent three days in total here, one in a double balcony room and two in the suite (free upgrade who hoo!). This hotel was clean, the rooms were lovely with very comfortable beds and working A/C. Honestly the best part was having a shower with great water pressure....I would stay here again for the shower alone! The staff were very friendly and prompt. Also enjoyed the restaurant, the food was good and fairly reasonable on price. Should be noted that this is an alcohol free hotel. Location is right on the beach!
Great pool and location, plus grab a $30 sunset cruise from the beach in front :)”
Stayed before and will do again. We were in the annex this time, just across the road 1 min walk away. Twas fine. Great pool with a shallow kiddy section plus right on the beach for the kids to dig in the sand. Room was huge with 3 big beds for $120 a night. Highlight for me was the fantastic buffet breakfast. Egg station, curries, chapatis, pastries, fruit, tea & coffee, coco pops for the little ones. Plenty of taxis outside if needed. Don't pay more than 20,000 to the airport :)
Was great - thanks!”
We went to Tembo directly from the airport because we did not have forward bookings for the rest of the trip. The room was very pretty and well fitted out. Great location close to ATM, Night Market, Palace Museum, and trip out to Prison Island. Wifi was good enough for us to arrange forward travel from the room.
Good location for discovering Stonetown. Very small beach area and busyness with boats. Pool area nice. Staff nice and helpful if they understand you. Breakfast good selection.. Restaurant food only fair. If you like GOOD coffee find PUZZLE cafe in stonetown!!!
This is a hotel with style and athmosphere plus excellent service given with a smile. Very attentive and helpful staff. That includes the General Manager who took his time to walk along to chat with guests We had not expected that the hotel was straight on the beach. Clean water and sand.(some empty plastic bottles now and then unfortunately, but it is the same along all beaches we visited. Zanzibar: watch out! We and many other tourists are getting fed up with unclean beaches!) Nice to walk along the beach from the hotel, watching the locals playing soccer and swimming. In the late afternoon we enjoyed sitting in our sunchairs, watching the beach in front of Tembo turn into a spectacular show with young people showing off their acrobatic skills. And after that looking at a magnificient sunset ( then we missed a beer or a GT) Breakfast was good with plent of fruits and a chef preparing your omelette or pancakes!
I choose this hotel for its location and it’s beach front. Everything in Stone Town is within walking distance. However if you’re expecting a beautiful beach for swimming , you’re in for a disappointment. The beach, because there’s so many dhows , isn’t good for swimming and too many people. The option is the swimming pool. Their staff were great too . Quick to react on your request . My complaint though since we booked for 5 persons , the towels ,and complimentary water should also be 5 and even tissue paper is only 1 . Everyday we are asking for additional since they are only suppling 3 .towels and water and we stayed for 4 nights. We’re eating at their restaurant for dinner too as they have good tasting food. Overall our stay was great. If you want to see the sunrise , book in the hotel not in the annext ..
The sunset ”
This was a magical place. Having coffee early in the morning with the beach at our feet was just something I will never forget.
The hotel was nice - the room clean, the pool a lot of fun, the beach also excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only suggestion is that they should improve the food - the restaurant food is not good at all (breakfast was totally fine). In future I will absolutely continue to stay here but will just make sure not to eat lunch or dinner here - although that is a real shame as its a great space for a restaurant! With so many other restaurants nearby, though, it's not a deal-breaker.
Water front location, with vibrant life.”
The "house", with restaurant is located just down to the water front. Where breakfast and dinner is served, overlooking Prison Island. Apartments are nicely "hidden" away in a cozy alleyway, where children were playing soccer. Leading right out to Freddy Murcery's old house. Rooms were clean, AC and a fan for the nights and friendly staff! Unfortunately, no alcoholic drinks were on the menu, in the bar. But large selection of virgin drinking options.
A lovely old hotel, right on the beach in Stone Town. Beautiful rooms, tastefully decorated, with awesome bed. TV, fridge, safe etc. Very good breakfast. Nice pool. Good restaurant, though be aware, no alcohol is served. Staff friendly and helpful. Good value at $100 for 2, breakfast included.
Best Hotel for solo travelers ”
Best place to stay in Zanzibar, it’s pocket friendly hotel , every thing walking distance, Indian restaurant Silk root too close . Excellent hotel staff very cooperative, many varieties in breakfast. Room and toilet very clean . Overall an excellent Hotel to stay.
Enjoyed our stay at the Tembo very much. Close to everything, clean, safe, lots to see.
Family with three kids, 9, 11, 4”
We were recommended Tembo by other families and were not disappointed. The breakfast was great (we did have to wait for fresh milk), and the boys loved the pool. Our room was clean, all the staff we encountered were helpful. No alcohol, mmm the first time we've done that, but you can pop next door and get a drink there on the beach, so no big dramas
Best of both worlds”
IF you want a place by the beach and steps from Stone Town, this is the right one. A great way to see the life and culture of Zanzibar. The beach is full of guys doing wonderful acrobatics, children jumping off of dhows, youths walking by with their pet monkeys, and more. We loved it.
The best hotel in Stonetown! ”
We stayed only for 1 day ( unfortunately) but we got an upgrade to the presidential suite and the room and view were just amazing! A nice bed and beautiful bathroom overlooking the ocean. We had a nice swin in the pool. But most of all rhe staff was so very friendly. Mr Abukabar made us feel very welcome as the rest of the staff. We will most certainly come back to this gem in Stonetown. The location is also very good, on the sea, right in the center. Thank you, Tembo Hotel!
Felt part of a scam- our room was not in the hotel but back a couple streets across a busy road where we were almost run over and down dark alley with no escort or security .....photos show the main hotel on the beach ....staff did not care at all .......skip this hotel if at all possible
A pleasant stay”
On the whole the hotel was satisfactory however I felt a little overpriced for the accommodation in my opinion. The restaurant staff on the beach were very likeable and helpful as were the security guys in the annex. My only concern was the room service left a lot to be desired as the guy responsible seemed to be asleep most of the time and even asked my wife to collect the food from him! Unlike the laundry service who were surprisingly fast and efficient to which I was grateful. I would also like to reiterate that the staff in the restaurant beach side were more than accommodating to the point of our being able to organise a rather impromptu wedding ceremony for which I would like to thank the staff for. In summary I would highly recommend the hotel for a short stay given its' location etc. but would suggest a little more investment from the owners would go a long way to improve on what could be a lovely hotel.
Payment At Hotel”
While making my reservation i select option pay at hotel. But when i reached at hotel it was already taken from card. It was too much frustrated. Hotel reservation informed when ever they received any booking they will purchase even without consideration pay at hotel. Hotel should consider this issue to avoid in future. Over all stay was pleasant. F&B staff was very nice. Apartment reception staff was also very good.
Good accommodation with very elaborate breakfast. Many varieties both traditional and new. ”
- very good experience and supportive staff team.
