"I had a fantastic time at Sakaya Hanjiro. It is a quiet guesthouse run by the owner, Yasushi Sakoaka, whose family has owned the home for generations. I was nervous about the fact that I didn't speak Japanese, but he was very welcoming, and had purchased a pocket translator which we were able to speak into. We ended up speaking for several hours about the area and the history of his house, including several impressive old documents he had found in the house dating back more than 160 years. The bed was comfortable, room was large, everything was clean, absolutely no complaints. The washroom features a traditional goemonburo-style bathtub as well as a modern shower head. If you want to feel welcomed and stay in a relaxing room overlooking the mountains, this place is for you. The owner was enthusiastic to have more international travelers, and was able to communicate well with the translator - but please respect that he is going above and beyond to be so accommodating. Thank you!"

"It was undoubtedly the most memorable part of our 2-week tour in Japan. We were a group of 8 adults and traveling from Nara by car and was late to arrive on the first day. We contacted our host to let him know that we were going to be late and they were very accommodating. We finally got thre by 7.30 pm and received a warm welcome. Dinner was local cuisine and they explained what was on the menu. We had a hot bath and a good night's sleep. next day we were woken up to the sound of the river water flow and birds singing and honestly thought that we were in heaven. After breakfast, we set off on feet to explore the local landscape. Our 10 km walk along a bush trail led to a few waterfalls and Autumn colors were beginning to show. Upon return our host drove us around to show us a nearby shrine and to an Onsen. that night we had quite exotic local cuisine and Japanese Sake and desert. We set off to Kyoto after Breakfast the next day. Exceptional experience and value for money!"
