          Embrace a unique experience”

Quite and calm surroundings, Beautiful traditional Terengganu architecture, Unique experience

Staying at Terrapuri gave my wife and I a unique experience. Recommended by a friend who went for honeymoon there, we decided to give it a tour. The layout of the resort is inspired by the 17th century Terengganu Palace. The best thing about this resort is they don't provide you access to television or WiFi. 3G is non-existence. You may scour around for coverage. But for a place like Terrapuri, you should be disconnected to the outside, from people and just have fun living like people in 17th Century. Each house has it's own story, it's own identity, it's own uniqueness, it's own arcitecture. You almost don't get 2 model of the same house, similar yet not the same. Staffs were very friendly, they have Nasi Dagang for breakfast and it was really good. Terrapuri is not budget friendly but the experience it offers worth the price you paid. I'll definitely will come back soon.

          An Artistic Living Museum”

silent, confortable & vintage with panoramic front beach

We stayed at Terrapuri for 1 night after the trip to Redang Island. We chose the seaview villa (Kedai Buluh). Though it's a bit overpriced and got only few facilities, we had a very pleasant stay there. We planned the trip beforehand like few months away, the sales co-ordinator continuously answered our enquiries without impatience and even provided us with some suggestions. During the trip, we were so much respected that we felt like ourselves were privileged. The staff were friendly, polite and served us earnestly.... Upon our arrival at Merang Jetty, the driver was already there waiting to pick us up to the resort. He got there 30 minutes earlier than we had arranged. Arriving the resort, we were welcomed at the reception and further confirmed our tours with the very best arrangements. At night, the staff guided us for the fireflies sanctuary. He was very kind and explained to us in detail about the living habits of fireflies. He helped us catch some of them and put in the bottle for memorizing the precious moments. It was very fun catching the fireflies but we set them free at last as they are wildlife. We also had the TGG city tour on the next day. The resort was silent, comfortable and vintage with artistic decorations which looks like a museum itself. There was a panoramic front beach, likely private, was sun embracing with relaxing sea breeze. You can picture how beautiful the environment is. We had a bicycle ride in the late afternoon. One tip - don't forget to spray the mosquitoes repellent & we would advise you to have dinner at your villa instead of Sesayap Courtyard.

          Totally unique heritage experience”

Hotel design, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff

Terrapuri is a hotel with a difference - a real heritage experience where all the villas are restored/upgraded antiques houses from the area. It is a small property with very few rooms so we barely heard a noise the whole time we were there. Alcohol is allowed, but not served. Limited wifi is available, but not in your room. It's ideal for a basic and relaxing weekend away. The beach at the front is OK, but there is better around. The food in the hotel is fair, but make sure you stick to local dishes. Make sure you take mosquito repellant!

          Herritage, Beach, Service

I cannot think of a single negative comment. Perhaps the mosquitoes? But even they didn't matter because everything else was just superb. Terrapuri gives us the chance to stay in a "kampung" (the Malay word for countryside) house, preserved to its best authenticity, and still have first-class modern day facilities like electricity (dim lights to imitate traditional lighting, air-conditioning, hot shower), clean water supply (rain shower), and sanitary. The house comes with all other necessities that a five-star hotel would provide. There is no TV, but who needs it? Walk out of the village compound and you are faced with a vast sea view. Heck, go play at the sandy beach! Hotel staff was VERY professional, but not in the classy five-star hotel kind of way, if you know what I mean. They are attentive to details, always friendly and smiling (with oozing sincerity). Seriously, I could go on and on about the good stuff. You just have to stay there to feel it.

During our stay at Terrapuri, I was very sick but the staff took great care of me and drove me to the hospital. They even visited me and brought me the stuff we left in the hotel room. After we came back from the hospital, Terrapuri cooked us delicious food for us without any charges! We were pampered! I hope we could come back here for holiday again in the future!

Everything was five star in Terrapuri, from the location, the staff and the amazing villa. The beach is yours for miles on end. I can only depict Terrapuri as brilliant as the locals are. Food is great, and privacy guaranteed. Get the bicycle and head north!

Lovely buildings, not such good food”

I have put yes I would recommend with a few reservations. The buildings in this resort are lovely. Old villas with beautiful furnishings and modern, stylish bathrooms, comfy beds, good air con. They look just like in the photos on the website. The beach opposite is very nice as is the pool area. It is very relaxing and peaceful. My main issue is with the food and the value for money of the food. We had the set dinner for MR75. It was average at best. I have no issue at all with home style cooking and have stayed in many homestays and enjoyed the food provided. I just don't expect to pay MR75 for this type of food. It was listed as a five course dinner, however this consisted of tasteless soup, overcooked mackerel and average noodles. Elsewhere along the East Coast of Malaysia (including the islands and other resorts) we had beautiful food at a fraction of this cost. So either improve the food drastically or reduce the price significantly. Breakfast was included and again, was just average compared to other resorts of a similar price. Another other issue I had is the cost of the transfer to Terranganau. This took 45 mins and cost MR180. The price from the accommodation to Kuala Besut (45 mins) is MR230. Normal taxis eg from Kuala Besut to Kota Bharu (over an hour) cost us MR75. We came all the way from Kota Bharu to Penarik (2.5 hours) for MR150. I accept hotels put a mark up on transport, however felt that this is excessive. There is little choice given the distance of the Heritage Village from the nearest town. The staff were friendly and pleasant and smiled a lot. Why have I only given them 3 stars? We had to search for someone to find towels for the pool. I got lucky and ordered a drink as someone was passing. My husband joined me and we couldn't find anyone to ask for a juice by the pool for him. The staff were all relaxing in their own quarters. This was the middle of the afternoon, not out of hours. Again, in a homestay or less expensive

We had one of the best holiday ever at Terrapuri. One of a kind resort. The surrounding is so calm and peaceful. The villa are very well maintained. An Old Malay Charm”

          Concept, Beach, Staff Performance

We drove here from Kuala Lumpur and with the newly opened route via LPT, we drove straight to Setiu bypassing Kuala Terengganu. The resort is situated in a remote area called Kg Mangkuk, with its own compound. We instantly felt like we were back in the old days of the Malay Sultanate. Upon entering the resort's compound, we were greeted by the welcoming local staff with a huge smile on her face. The reception itself was situated on a high stilted wooden Malay house which was an attraction itself. It may not be practical for guest with restricted mobility but i'm pretty sure the staff can arrange for a check in somehow should you find it difficult to climb up the steep staircase to the reception. We were brought around the resort to see those beautiful traditional Malay houses, most are acquired from villages around Terengganu. Our villa had a large verandah with sofa, king sized bed and a modern bathroom with tub and shower. Right across the resort is their white sandy private beach. You can find fresh seafood at the nearby stalls(not operated by the resort) ; Deep fried calamari in batter is a must try! The resort also has its own restaurant with an array western menu should you find it difficult to adapt to the local food.

This place has all the basic modern amenities that you can ask for except WiFi and mobile phone signal. If you want to disconnect, and unwind this is the place for you. Staff are friendly and nice. Food is above average and rooms/ houses are clean and relaxing. The beach is not crowded when we were there but you will get locals visiting with families or groups around the beach area. So, it can slightly uncomfortable if you want to lie down on the beach. The pool area is nice. You will also have to deal with bugs at night but it’s all part of the place’s rustic charm. Just make sure you request for insect/mosquito coils and start burning them at sundown around the house and bring your own citronella candles and repellant. When we stayed the first two nights, we were placed at the far end of the resort and it was very dark at night. Had we known that we could, we would have asked the staff to turn in the garden lights to illuminate the garden - when it’s illuminated at night, it’s very pretty, tranquil and calm. There are also cats around the common eating areas. But they don’t come to the poolside or the houses.

Serene and tranquil surroundings, clean and pristine beach

Drove 9 hours from Singapore via Segamat to reach the remote village of Mangkuk. Were greeted by friendly and helpful hotel staff. They allowed us to explore the heritage village including the villas that were still work-in-progress. No TV, no internet access - all pure peace and quiet. Our 4 kids didn't mind as they have the swimming pool, free bikes to ride and entire stretch of clean beach to swim and play.

Sadly, I have to give a lesser than great review. The place is in a good location, the staff are really friendly and nice, but for the price it is quite poor value. It is quiet and peaceful, but far from local facilities. Unfortunately the aircon was not working well in my initial room, nor in the second room. Hence my low rating. One night just for the experience”

We stayed just one night after visiting Perhentian just to experience this historic hotel. It is quite expensive and that may explain why there were very few other guests. Staff were charming and food was authentic. The room was well presented, especially the bathroom. It's true that there's no TV or internet (we saw that as a benefit). It was hard to get the room cool because it was sealed up to the extent that the sea breeze didn't blow through but not enough to allow the AC to function well! Best to sit outside on the deck or jump in the huge outdoor pool.

The most exquisite and romantic place you could stay in”

Don't expect the Bali experience where you are surrounded by like minded tourists, shops, attractions, night clubs, alcohol fueled people , hustle and bustle of locals and tourist , traders trying to tempt you to purchase their wares ..... no this place is the opposite with the most beautiful location, the staff second to none, it is tranquil and serene and offers you an experience you will never forget. As a gay couple we were totally embraced and made to feel so welcome. No tv, limited wifi and no landline phone was a luxury in its self. The breakfast was exquisite and you can ask for anything that takes your fancy The lunches and dinners were delicious. The staff set up our dinner on our private balcony, breakfast was set up in two areas giving us a new experience each time and lunch was enjoyed in the actual dining room which was open air. Truly a beautiful place to stay. We were there for three nights and regretted not staying there for our entire stay in Malaysia

          Memorable Experience”

beautiful decoration, friendly staff and classic

The hotel is located a bit far off from other main attraction. The signboard outside the resort is small, in fact I need to go around the area several times before I can find the premise. Once I get inside, I was very impressed with the resort and it was a very nice experience for me.
