Adequate for a short stay in Chicago”
This hotel is adequate for a short stay in Chicago. Note that it is not close to downtown at all if that’s what you’re looking for - it's over 30min by public bus. We stayed here for one night during our trip as it was the most affordable option in the Hyde Park area. We were able to walk to the UChicago campus in 15-20min for restaurants and sightseeing. Staff were helpful, room was a good size, and reasonably clean. Free use of coffee machine in the lobby was much appreciated. Our room was fine but not great - dark, mismatched outdated decor, lots of carpeting, hard bed and flat pillows. We wouldn’t stay here again if we had other options in the price range. But it was fine for this trip as we didn’t spend much time there except to sleep.
Inexpensive but out of the way ”
Solo traveler. Was going to stay in hostel but decided to get a room instead with the pandemic and all..... This place was inexpensive for Chicago at the time of my visit. It's a hotel. It's fine. But it's a walk around some apartments to get to the bus stop. Whole foods is not too far. I didn't feel unsafe exactly but next time I may pay more for a hotel in a more popular area so I could feel ok about coming in at night. When I got here I checked in through best western so I didn't talk to any staff. That person was a bit rude. Told me I had a smoking room and I said no that's not what I wanted. She said she could move me since there were rooms but if not I would have had to take the smoking one. Even though my email reservation clearly states non smoking. And I'm on the ground floor which is also not what I asked for. All in all Chicago is amazing and this place is fine. 25 minutes on bus to get downtown. Not a big deal to me. I haven't had an issue with public transportation either.

Many past negative comments about noise weren't experienced during our stay. Location is very good. The price is only OK. We were very unhappy initially because we were assigned a room that caused both of us so much allergic. The carpets were old and dirty. The room was filled with odor, likely of being a smoking room, despite I'd requested / rented a non smoking room. Fortunately the lady receptionist was able to give us a different room, albeit with a little push back. After that everything was acceptable. Without this fix, we'd definitely give a very negative review. Hence our warnings: make sure you get a very clean and acceptable room.
Dated but clean”
They are currently going through some changes which did not give me "warm fuzzies" when I arrived. I had luckily contacted them via phone so I was able to track down where the "front office" was hiding upon check-in. Very pleasant from that point on. The place was a little sketchy looking and hadn't seen a remodel for decades by the look of it, but once in the room, the beds were decent and the room was clean. For the price, I would stay again.
Location is awesome, building and room not so great”
The location is great, easy walk to metra and food/restaurant. Right by the shore and park. the room does get cleaned but definitely dated and carpet feels dirty. Bathroom and beds are cleaned. Daily housekeeping does a fairly good job. Free parking. Front desk not too friendly but ok. Overall for Chicago is great - good value.
