In the perfect location to everything in the Fort area. The room and bathroom were clean. The beds was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well. Quiet room considering where the guest house is situated, right in the heart of things. The staff were lovely and very professional. The stairs to the room on the second floor are quite steep but the staff carried our bags up for us. There was nothing to complain about. Perhaps a full curtain for the window facing the street to block out the early morning light is my only suggestion.
very friendly, helping staff”
we have a nice feelings about this hotel and the staff (family) were very friendly, smiling and helpful. i can definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and family who will be visiting Galle. the room was ok, but the stairs a little bit dangerous, too steep and small., so those travelling with infants its not the ideal place to stay.
Lovey budget hotel”
The Fort Inn is a lovely little guesthouse, with very friendly and helpful owners (who arranged a driver to take us back to the airport). Our room was fairly small and a little dated, but nicely done. The beds were comfortable, breakfast was delicious, and the location is fantastic - just next to the much more expensive Fort Printers, and right in the middle of the old fort area of Galle. There's numerous cafes, restaurants and cute souvenir and jewellery shops within a couple of minutes walk, plus the seafront, markets etc. And tuk-tuks are always waiting outside, happy to go to Unawatuna beach and other nearby destinations.
Comfortable family-run inn with terrific location ”
Comfortable rooms, nice balcony for watching passers-by and having breakfast with other guests, great location within the Fort. The friendly young family that runs and owns Fort Inn are super helpful.
Lovely little gem in the heart of the old town”
This little place has only a couple of rooms. We stayed at the top of the Inn and this is a great room with a roof terrace which affords views of the sea and the surrounding city. The owners are very kind and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. The sri lankan breakfast was absolutely delicious - especially the egg hoppers and coconut sambal. Galle old town is pretty and interesting but you can pretty much see everything in a day. It is also worth noting that alcohol is not widely available within the walls of the old town. We would definitely recommend this hotel for a short stay in Galle.
Wonderful place, wonderful people”
I had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at this hotel. The owners and their young son were wonderful hosts and made my stay most pleasant. The top room which they put me in has superb views across the rooftops of the Old Fort in Galle, and the location of the guesthouse was pin perfect. I would highly recommend that you ask for this top room as you get cooling breezes that pass through the windows and out onto the private balcony. I would also suggest that you ask for the Sri Lankan breakfast - it was a feast fit for a king! Highly recommended.
lovely place with great owners”
the fort inn is a great place to stay, located right in the middle of the fort area. the owners were extremely kind and helpful. the room was clean, had a nice view and had good hot water. breakfast consisted of fruit, tea, coffee, toast and eggs on the balcony. overall was really happy with our stay at the fort inn guest house
small guest house, big welcome”
we loved staying right in the historic 'downtown' of the fort. it was like staying in old holland. people from all over the world, strayed past the property. the guest house has but a few rooms, but is very big on hospitality. although it is certainly extra work for the innkeeper, guests are encouraged to enjoy breakfast on the second floor balconey- overlooking the quaint street. and what a breakfast it was; your choice between an american breakfast, and/or a sri lankan multi course breakfast. both were wonderful, and for those big eaters (like moi) seconds were happily provided! both breakfasts also came with a generous fruit platter. the rooms are small but well ac'd, and there are no reading lights, but we enjoyed the stay.
It was really wonderful experience staying in Fort Inn those days of our trip, the host and hostress are so nice and kind, and their 3 years old little, is really cute. living there we felt like at home. very good!
This is a great place to stay in Galle, conveniently located on Pedlar Street for the ramparts, beach, sights, restaurant and shops. We had a beautifully cool blue room with an efficient air con, great shower, comfy bed and a fridge! The balcony was ideal for reading and people watching. Friendly, welcoming staff, especially Nema, tuktuk driver, who took us on a tour of the sights outside Galle for a very reasonable price. We didn't have meals at the Fort Inn but the Galle55 round the corner can be highly recommended for breakfast and dinner.
Fabulous location in Galle Fort”
Had a great stay here for two nights in December 2016. Our host was super-welcoming and the location of the guest house is great. Was so nice to have a fridge in our room - something we came to realise was a rarity in Sri Lanka as we continued our travels.
Absolutely overpriced. Very very small room and staffs try to cheat on us for the whale watching arrangement. Facilities of the guest house are run down. Smells of foods are everywhere as staffs are staying inside the house too.
I made a booking at Fort Inn Guest House but when I checked in, I was actually taken around the corner to stay in their other hotel - Secret Palace - which is in the family home. It was absolutely lovely and I really enjoyed being amongst family life though my room was completely private with a balcony. The room had all mod-cons including air conditioning, fan, hot water, wifi, and TV. The staff were incredibly helpful, friendly and conversational. They helped me book a tuk tuk tour outside of Galle on my second day which was equally reliable and friendly. I'm very happy to recommend Secret Palace.
The room was awful. Really. I had to kill two huge cockroaches, I guess that tells a lot about its cleanliness. There was an air conditioner but the staff didn't give us the remote and I had to go downstairs at 2 AM to ask for it. We stayed only one night but would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone. Only good thing was the location (the hotel is in the fort) and the breakfast was relatively ok.
The Best Location”
We had a pleasant though rainy stay at the Fort Inn. The guest house is in the heart of the fort and easy walking to all the sights. The room and en suite were small and well worn but this is to be expected in an original building in old town. The AC worked well though the Wifi was very slow. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We did not opt for the breakfast there and ate out. Restaurants in the fort were very expensive compared to elsewhere in Sri Lanka and the staff directed us to a the Indian Hut a short walk away that was very reasonable.
The Fort Inn is in the heart of the Fort area so is in a great location but the building is quite old. Can be, as expected, a bit noisy, as its a busy area. Stay was Ok but feel the Fort Inn is a bit expensive for what it offers.
The location was really good, inside the fort and close to the fort walls. The room was clean and air conditioned, but with 2 people it was quite cramped (not much floor space when both our suitcases were open). The bed had a mosquito net but there were some holes and I got bitten a few times at night. The bathroom was basic, with no soap provided. The breakfast (fruit and eggs on toast) was good. We also had dinner there one night (rice and curry) which was quite good. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Overall, I thought it was good value for such a convenient location, and would stay there again. Also, for info, there is no drivers' accommodation at this guest house, so if you have a driver, you may need to factor their external accommodation into the price (for us it was an extra 3500 rupees per night for our driver's food and accommodation).
Everything was great except of the cockroaches”
When I arrived I was told that my room was currently not available and I was brought into one of there other hotels, which was very nearby. My room was so beautiful, the view amazing, I was so happy. When I wanted to use the toilet one more time before going to bed, I opened the door and saw 8 - 10 big cockroaches all over the floor. Some of them ran straight into the room, which was very unpleasant and prevented me from getting any sleep. During the day and early evening everything was fine when I used the bathroom then. It's so sad as I would've been so happy with everything, but cockroaches should really be a no-go for a hotel like this. If they get rid of that problem I would always stay there again.
"MY SECOND HOME IN THE WORLD"”
I really enjoyed stayed this lovely family run guest house, really friendly people i ever met in sri lanka. thee ower's wife is super friendly she chat with me long time.and she speak good english tooo. really eas going place, i don't understand why peoples are leaved nagative reviwes for this such a nice guest house, i wish that people should stay 07 STAR HOTELS, not choose the guest houses. if you want feel guest house feeling and really friendly people this is the place for you. and also if you like real srilankan food this is the place you can have very reasonable price, please don't hesitate to asked the owner's wife, she'll answer any time. I can't wait to go back this place and staying longer. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!!!
Basic but Brilliant! ”
We loved our stay at the Fort Inn mostly because they were just so very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Especially Namal, who was more than happy to take you in his Trishaw (tut tut) if you needed to get somewhere. The room we stayed in was on the first floor, it was basic but it had a fridge and air conditioning and a comfy bed with a mosquito net around it and a ceiling fan above. For the price in Fort Galle it was good and we would definitely stay there again. Breakfast was served on the balcony, a pot of tea or coffee, a plate of fresh fruit and eggs how you like with toast and jam. We loved the feel of Fort Galle, there are plenty of lovely places to eat and the people are all so friendly. If you are looking for a budget hotel to stay in Fort Galle, we would not hesitate to recommend the Fort Inn Guest House.
