Super Pied a Terre”
Hotel Newton is my regular hotel before leaving or returning from JFK, and it's perfect for that purpose. The room is small, but clean with new, good fixtures, and quiet. It's within two minutes, literally, of a subway stop, and the area is good (Upper West Side). Starbucks and drug store for toiletries on the same block. A word of thanks to the staff: I was super-stressed from a 23-hour flight, and found I had messed up my reservation. They gave me a few hours to straighten the situation out, and stored my bags for me. They were also very helpful in decoding the subway map for me and calling a cab. Can't say enough good things about them!
One night in Manhattan on the way to the airport”
Hotel Newton is my hotel of choice on my way into New York and then out to JFK. The facilties are clean and quiet. The bed is comfortable, and the room, although small, is fine. The location is great. The staff is efficient and professional. The price is right. Most of all, I really do NOT want any stress before a long-haul international flight, and the Newton keeps me free of stress. That's why I stay there regularly.
Pied a terre in Manhattan”
I wanted to stay in Manhattan for one night on my way to JFK, and not in some fleabag, but not in a mint-on-the-pillow over-priced property either. The Hotel Newton, on Broadway in the 90s, is ideal for that purpose. As a bonus, it's near the Metropolitan Museum. It's clean and very quiet with modern fixtures. Staff are effective. The only downsides I discovered are: (1) the slowest elevator in the universe; (2) wifi is not free (absurd in this day and age); and (3) bathrooms are shared. I'm an experienced solo traveler, so that doesn't bother me; I've stayed there several times, and there's never been a problem. Anyhow, considering what you get for the price, the Hotel Newton can't be beat. I'd certainly consider it for an extended stay, too.
They add on charges and try to switch out rooms when you arrive”
I had to pay and sign for an additional $34 “facility fee” when I got there. This was on top of the $98 I had already been charged for taxes and fees through Agoda. Then then gave me a double room when I had reserved a Superior Queen. The keys didn’t work the first time though, so when I went to switch those - I told them I wanted the Queen and they did switch it. I have stayed here in the past as it is right across the street from the subway and I like the neighborhood. In the past it has been a reasonable price, but this time almost $750 for two nights.
Nice hotel in an excellent location.”
Hotel Newton was a nice surprise. Our room was quite large by NYC standards and very clean and well laid out. The staff, even though very efficient at check in and check out, seemed very disinterested and even unfriendly at times. The hotel was in an excellent area with many local cafes and restaurants and only a short walk to Central Park. I can definitely recommend Hotel Newton. We had an enjoyable stay.
Wonderful hotel in great convenient location gmone”
Wonderful. Staff were helpful and courteous. Room was quite large for New York hotels. Walk in dressing cupboard with iron and ironing board was very handy. Having fridge and microwave in room was very convenient and location across the road from subway was fabulous
Our stay at the Newton Hotel”
It was perfect for our stay. Location (subway, walking distance)affordability(very reasonable for clean, adequate comfortable room/accessories (microwave, refridgerator). An added plus: a managed baggage hold room1
The hotel location is fantastic. Just in front of broadway avenue. The best thing I enjoyed was the stores around the hotel. There was a starbucks coffee, a Walgreens, many restaurants, and a supermarket around the block. In the supermarket you can find quality groceries which I bought for preparing my own breakfasts. (fruits, yogurt, bread and coffee). Also, the metro station is just a few steps from the hotel. Great location!!!
Great value for money”
The hotel is very clean. We came with a young baby so the woman at the front desk gave us a large room to accommodate the crib comfortably. In terms of value for money this hotel is an excellent deal. Will definitely stay there again next time in NYC.
Unpretentious comfortable accommodations.”
Per request, had a quiet room (not on Broadway); no traffic noise. Window air conditioner was somewhat noisy, but room was clean, comfortable, simply but pleasantly decorated, and well maintained. Comfortable bed. Close proximity to the 96th street subway station made this location very convenient. Was able to get to 14th street in about 20 minutes. Short walk to Central Park. No dining facilities in hotel, but abundant restaurant choices within walking distance.
Overall OK, but should be cheaper for what they offer”
(+) Great location, right next to 96th st subway station; quiet neighborhood with multiethnic restaurants; friendly staff; beautiful historical building (-) found a baby cockroach on desk, hair on the pillow; wifi is a disaster; shower flow is ridiculously strong (not a pleasant experience)
Nice hotel with friendly staff.”
Very good location”
We stayed 4 nights in a very small room with own bathroom. The place is clean, but corridors had odd smell. The biggest advantage of this hotel is its location, therefore do not expect any special for this price. Some good restaurants are nearby and Central Park is very close. Good place if you want to discover Manhattan and not spend much time in your room. Would stay here again.
Hotel Newton New York”
OK. Booked superior room, put in very small room. asked to be moved, could not till next day, but bigger room much better. standard for 3 star good. just check they give you what you ordered as there are cheaper rooms, ie small and shared bath. These may be ok for some though we wanted and booked more. Staff did as requested, reasonably efficient but not over friendly. Saying that did the jobs required and gave info if asked. Clean small hotel very near to 96th st station, bit out of town but easy to get in to times square and everywhere else. Shops and diners nearby ok and central park about 15 min walk away. Good price for NY and looked lot better than some other 3 stars we saw.
Small hotel convenient for NCY stay”
The room was clean but very small. Hardly room to move around a queen-sized bed. The hot water tap was in fact a tepid water tap. The room was hot due to hot water pipes running down the wall of the bathroom. Wi-fi costs extra, and is enabled for a maximum of 2 devices. There is a hotel safe for use by the residents and left luggage storage. There are internet facilities for which you pay, but printing out boarding passes is free. The staff were friendly and helpful. The main thing about the hotel is its location. It is within easy walking distance of the 1, 2 and 3 subways, which make for easy access to downtown. It is also quite convenient for the Metropolitan Opera, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Frick, etc. etc. There are some quite nice restaurants on the same block.
Stay for one week at Newton”
This budget hotel is good value for the money and close to the main subway. The room is very small but has all that is needed and very clean. The Manhattan Diner two doors down is excellent for all meals, Amsterdam street is great for dining options and the location is much quieter than the Midtown area we previously stayed at. My main complaint is the very unhelpful staff - they hide behind the main desk and hope you don't bother them - nothing is proactive and everything seems an effort - we learnt not to bother them. The only polite staff member was the door man when he was there!
very average, poor Internet access. ”
Nothing great, the biggest issue was no Internet access. It wasn't free and only limited to 2 device's and poor signal at best. I ended up going to Starbucks instead for faster access. The best part is the location, close to the stores, banks and markets. I would recommend staying at the Days Inn next door instead.
Great budgeted choice.”
My 2nd time here. I enjoyed the superior queen room more than the other choices. Location...unbeatable!!
our stay a the newton hotel”
not bad after getting a bigger room
perfect for me”
Quick, easy, painless. I will for sure consider depending on what part of town my work will be in to return to the Newton.
