Do it!”
If you intend to visit Gokayama, it’s game changing to spend the night. Yomoshirou is a warm, friendly guesthouse in a gassho zukuri in Ainokura village. Ainokura is considerably smaller than nearby Shirakawa-go but much more peaceful since it isn’t overrun with tourists. My room at the guesthouse was large and the futon was firm and comfortable. Keep in mind that in these homes the walls are literally made of paper, and getting up to go to the shared bathroom was a fun experience navigating the maze of sliding panels! Apart from the opportunity to see Ainokura at dusk and dawn, staying at Yomoshirou was made extra special thanks to the cheerful hospitality of its owners Kunihiro and Noriko. Noriko’s meals are elaborate, local, and delicious (and included with the booking!) and Kunihiro does his best to communicate and entertain during dinner despite English not really being spoken. Laughter and smiles are a universal language! I’m so happy I stayed here!
Wonderful Experience!”
I appreciate that this location is a 40 minute drive outside of Shirakawa-go, the main touristy part. It's a small village but everyone was very kind, and there were a fewer amount of people so it felt more authentic. The couple who ran it are super kind, I didn't know how much time I should spend with them or if it was okay to walk around freely because we are sharing a house. They stayed in the kitchen part most of the time, but we had a great time chatting to them about their culture. They cook great meals, and gave us tea, ran a nice bath, and even played a video about the culture and traditions. We slept on a futon on the floor, which can be hard for people, but it was enjoyable and had nice AC! We will be coming here again in the winter to enjoy it!!

thank you Mr. and Mrs. Yomoshiro for your kind and warm hosting, we really enjoying staying in your house very much. I learnt a lot in the wisdom of Gassho style house and it’s history! Thank you for trying to explain it patiently! And the food was awesome too! Highly recommended!
ยอดเยี่ยม”
A great experience staying in a gassho which has been standing for almost 300 years. The owners are a couple who run the place and make sure we're fed with delicious local foods harvested and prepared by them. It was enjoyable to talk to them about the past of Ainokura and the minshuku, and the way of life. It was also a great way to appreciate the modern things we have now.
Nice place to stay for Gokayama”
