Superb location, amazing staff”
The staff are amazing, accommodating, polite and very helpful. The location of the Ryokan excellent. I couldn't have asked for a better location to visit the most Popular sites, temples, shrines, shopping streets. Some streets nearby were so picturesque. However, perhaps because of the time we went (Sakura season and the sheer number of tourists, also I'm not sure what the market price is in Kyoto for a 3 star ryokan in prime location) but I feel it was too expensive. We paid almost 2000 usd for 2 nights not including our meals and drinks served for dinner. I feel this is too steep for a 3 star ryokan but I'm not sure if the price was inflated bc of the season or bc I booked too late or because of the location. Maybe it has to do with opposing tourism? But in any case the staff was great. Everything was very clean but it feels rundown and old, the toilet room needs some hand-soap in there. Very comfortable futons and they set it up very nicely with welcoming note and origami. Breakfast was fantastic. Fresh, thoughtful, delicious. We opted for a Kaiseki meal served in our room for dinner the first night and I must say it was only average but compared to what we can get in HK, it was still very good value. The second night we had sukiyaki served in room, and portions were generous but the soup base was too sweet. We didn't realize until later that perhaps we shouldn't have had it in the room bc it smelled like sukiyaki beef for the entire night. I loved the big pitchers of ice water left in our rooms at night. I'm not sure I would stay here again given the price but all in all the experience was positive and I'm grateful for the kind and polite staff. Thank you
Great stay for Ryokan experience”
First time staying at Ryokan hotel, it is a short distance from the bus station. The hotel can be entered from the alley near the main road. The reception staff can somewhat communicate in English. Although it was a bit difficult, but I managed to check in. This hotel is traditional, so you will have a key to enter to your room. I stay with family of 4 adults. The room is more spacious than I expected. There was a nice Kyoto snack and tea bags as a welcoming gift served inside the room. The hotel staff who took care us was very nice. She communicate through a translator which is a bit difficult at time as the translation came out wrong, but she tried her best to communicate and take care us. It might be easier to know Japanese, but I did not have much of trouble. The staffs were great. There is not much facility in the hotel beside the onsen. there is an indoor and outdoor onsen on the top floor which you can take elevator to the 5th floor then walk one more floor via stair. There is also one indoor onsen on the first floor. Male and female will switch the onsen location between evening and morning. The washroom is a bit small. The bathroom and toilet are two separate room next to each other, so it was good. The shower temperature is a bit difficult to control though, I had to leave the water running while soaping and shampooing otherwise it takes time to adjust the temperature again. Additional place to hang used towels would be great. The dinner is served in the room by two lovely staffs. They tried to explain each set of food and it looks great. Okami of the hotel also came by to say hi as she explained the style of meal that was served. Apparently, it is a healthy meal with Kyoto special ingredient. I enjoyed sake a lot and dessert. The tofu dishes was nice as well. After the meal, the staffs will come and take care dishes and prepare bed. During this time you can go to onsen or walk around the hotel, there are some supermarket and temple nearby. By the way, when you check in, the staff will ask the time that you want to have both dinner and breakfast as there are schedule with limited amount of people. I had my dinner starting at 5 PM and breakfast 8:30 AM (starting since 7 or 7:30, but some period was full). The room has AC with heater, so there was not a problem sleeping. The futon was nice and I enjoyed the experience. The breakfast was great as well. I enjoyed all dishes selected by the hotel. The breakfast is on the 2nd floor. One comment that I would like to suggest is that for dinner, maybe you can serve rice a bit sooner because by the type the rice was served there was not much food left to eat it with beside miso soup. I guess this can depend on guest, but we did not expect to have rice at the end so we kind of feel bad not able to finish it. I might not visit Kyoto anytime soon as Japan still has many more area that I have not visit, but if I get a chance to come back to Kyoto, I will definitely stay for a night here again due to the hospitality of the hotel staffs.
Quaint and lovely ”
We went for the full traditional Japanese experience with a 13-course kaiseki dinner and breakfast included. It was great. The staff were really lovely. They used a translator app to explain all the different things for dinner, which was beautifully prepared and presented. The hotel had 2 public baths and we were glad we braved them. Yukata were provided for us to use including a jacket as it was winter. The hotel itself is a bit dated but that just added to the charm. It was very easy to get to using public transport. Would definitely recommend.
ยอดเยี่ยม”
I stayed here for 2 nights with my partner in December 2022 before the new year. We were in room 405 which was spacious and had a great view. Service was EXCELLENT from the front desk to turn down service. The heating system worked well and the quality of the food made our experience really enjoyable. Our kaiseki dinners served in-room were delicious. You can order alcohol as an add-on. They have 2 in-house onsen/sentos (6th and ground floor) They were never crowded and I was usually the only occupant. Was lovely to soak after a long day exploring the city. We were able to receive massages in our room which the front desk organized for us as well. Would highly recommend for location, service, and quality.
Kaiseki”
Kaiseki dinner in our room was perfect!
