Private onsen, quiet and peaceful location, and unique dining/room
We had a great time at this Ryokan. The staff are very polite and helpful. One guy there does speak English and everyone is very accommodating. We were traveling with an infant and they did provide everything we needed for the baby....a separate baby bath in the onsen, baby dinnerware, extra towels, and they didn't mind that we brought her to meals in the restaurant.
The location is perfect. The train is a switchback, but the ride isn't far and doesn't take long to get to the stop (not more than 15 or 20 minutes from Odawara station). The small station of Ohiradai is somewhat off the beaten path and very few people got off/on at our train stop. We loved this as we were looking for a place away from the crowds. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the station. There is a convenience store on the way. We did walk around Ohiradai a little and it is a quiet, pleasant place.
The restaurant in the hotel was a great experience. I did wish that we had done a little research on how to eat some of the things presented to us. There was no explanation of what things were or how to eat them. We certainly didn't mind but just something to note. We had dinner one night and breakfast was included in our rate.
We didn't mind the shared bathroom, I rarely saw another person in the bathroom when I was there. I believe there are under 10 rooms in the Ryokan, so not too many people to share with.
The onsen was great....we were able to have about an hour a day of private use. They did provide the baby her own baby bath. There is an inside and outside partition of the onsen.
Wifi is available in the hotel...spotty in our room but available in the lobby.
I would certainly recommend this place and if we are ever back in the area I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
