Check in, room size, noise level, restaurant, check out all good. One block to Subway. Parking Garage across the street was pricey, $130 for 36 hours. Doorman would not allow me to use the hotel cart to bring my luggage across the street from the Parking Garage to the Hotel.
Nice location, room and restaurant”
Lucerne is located in up west side, close to Central Park. In weekend, you can see New Yorkers bring their kids to Central Park. Nice touch of local life style. The hotel is very good. Staff helpful. Restaurant food delicious. Easy access to subway.
Classy, European style hotel”
Perfect in every way. Rooms are quiet, immaculate, bathrooms are elegant stocked with Aveda products, housekeeping very responsive to request for blanket. I've been staying here every time I visit NYC for over ten years. It is a good value most of the time. Great location near Natural History Museum, across Central Park for the Met (walk or easy bus ride), near Zabar's, subway and Lincoln Center.
Product of a bygone era”
First of all, the hotel is quite old and a bit rundown for New York City standard. Agoda site says the room size was about 170 square meters. That was WAY OFF the actual size: I would take off the "zero." Yes, very much misquoted. If unintentinally. The pics show bathrobe/soft slips. None of that in the room I stayed. It did not even have a coffee maker/water kettle. The overall feel of the room reminds me of roadsite motels in Mid-west. Really. Definitely not worth the high price tag.
staff were attentive and helpful.”
located very near the metro, the venue was just right. away from the busy times square so it'll be peaceful at night. metro runs 24/7 as well, so no worries on staying out late. i must comment on the staff at the hotel (mainly the doormen). they were very nice and helpful, very attentive without us having to ask. thumbs up! :)
Very satisfied with cleanliness and comfort of roo”
Our stay was very nice. Good location - close to Central Park, restaurants, shopping and subway stop. flew in and out of JFK and was able to take subway from Howard Beach to 79th and Amsterdam with just one transfer. Lots of restaurants and bars in the area. Two blocks to Central Park.
worst hotel i've ever stayed in”
horrible stay, don't use the concierge. when you complain to the manager in a suit, he will tell you that although they have placed a concierge in the hotel he can't help out...what does a hotel manager do if not help customers? i chose this hotel because of the reviews but now think the reviews are fake as this hotel was over priced and terrible service. the only positive service was from the reception guy who checked us in as he felt bad we just got scammed by the concierge. this hotel should be ashamed.
Great location but uncomfortable beds and noisy. ”
Great location but the beds were very uncomfortable. The pillows were not stuffed enough-- too soft to the point of being uncomfortable. Could not sleep at night because of the traffic noises. Had to put earplugs into my ears and even then I could hear the traffic noises. If the beds were a little softer and the pillows more fluffy, I could have slept better. However, the location was excellent in terms of cafes, restaurants, shopping, and easy access to the rest of the city. The room was very spacious and nice. The staff was very friendly.
Terrific value for the money with the convenience of a breakfast restaurant and a nice deli just across the street. Subway was convenient and we could get anywhere we wanted easily. Room was cleaned well and staff was friendly. No problems, no worries.
Great choice for the upper west side.”
Assuming you are looking for the upper west side, this is a great location. Central Park is a few short blocks away and Amsterdam Ave has a mind boggling array of restaurants within walking distance. The subway is 1 block away but walking allows to take in the sights better. You could stay here for a year, eat a different restaurant every night and never walk more than a half mile from the hotel. Check-in was effortless, the room was large enough, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and clean. Special mention for the shower which had the best water pressure that I have ever encountered in any hotel. Check-out was easy and there were no surprise charges. Given the reasonable price, I was pleasantly surprised at the overall quality of this hotel.
A perfect place to stay for a short/extended stay”
This was the first visit to New York and I would not look for any alternative accommodation for any future visits. Some excellent little restaurants surround, it is out of the hustle of time square, yet a short taxi / subway trip away from all major Manhattan attractions. It is not a 5 star hotel, but should suffice most people for a fair value price.
Very comfortable and clean but not luxurious”
Our stay was great, but the hotel will in short order need to make some renovations. The bath was not large enough at all and lacked the feel of a more luxurious hotel, which this was priced as such. The staff, location and hotel were excellent but amenities were a bit lacking, such as the linens and mattresses that most hotels have now.
Clean, friendly and well-located New York hotel”
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Lucerne Hotel. Its Upper West Side location is great for Central Park and museums (easy walking distance), plenty of good local restaurants and bars and very close to a subway station. The room was not large but this is the case in most New York hotels. It was very clean and well-maintained. The hotel is quiet at night and we were able to sleep very well. The staff are all friendly, courteous and helpful. We would be very happy to stay there again when visiting New York.
Comfortable Stay at The Lucerne”
I arrived at The Lucerne without my suitcase after traveling for around 40 hours. The staff at the front desk could not have been more helpful and were happy to move me to a quiet room on request. They offered basic toiletries to replace those in my lost luggage. The room was very clean and comfortable. The Lucerne is close to Central Park, metres from the subway and only a few steps from all the restaurants on Amsterdam St.
Convenient location and nice neighbourhood”
Historical building near central park, a minute walk from subway line 1 which is very convenience to visit major attraction in New York. The room was nice and clean with microwave and fridge which gave us a choice to have some breakfast or snack in our room. We arranged the tickets to the Natural History Museum with concierge at the hotel and we have been told that we don't need to queue. However, when we went down to the museum, will-call desk was closed so we had to queue with normal admission to exchange the tickets. As we pay extra for arrange the tickets, wish the concierge knew that the will-call counter was closed and we didn't need to waste our time. Also, there were unknown charge (about $54)from the hotel came up on my credit card account and I don't know what they charged for as no one told me there's any extra charge and I didn't sing anything. Apart from that, hotel was very nice.
We enjoyed staying in Lucerne Hotel”
We enjoyed staying in The Lucerne Hotel and felt welcome from we arrived until we left. The staff was extremely service minded and ensured we got all the support we asked for and actually a bit more :) The room was nice, good size, clean and very well maintained. Internet works well in the room and the fitness center is great. Location is ideel as the subway is less than one block from the hotel and Central Park is two block away. We can really recommend this hotel - Great value for money
a very memorable stay”
It's a pleasant stay. Actually we are in New York for an audition. This hotel was recommended by Manhattan School of Music. It's our first time to stay at this hotel. The hotel is located near the Manhattan School of Music. The room is very comfortable. It's clean, large and has the standard of International hotel. It has a friendly staff.
Lovely well located hotel with great staff”
As a honeymoon couple, we really enjoyed our stay in Lucerne Hotel. It's in walking distance to the metro station-79 Stree of Train 1. Christ at the front desk helped us a lot when we first arrived. He gave me so much information on restaurants in the area and they are really good! Especially the Luke's, lobster sandwich is GGGGGGGreat! He also gave us many useful tips about the city. And door men are all smiling and polite. Hotel room is small but clean and nice.
Gorgeous Hotel! ”
We stayed at The Lucerne after getting married in Central Park. The hotel is beautiful and affordable for the comfortable beds and nice rooms. The staff was helpful and friendly, and the restaurant is unbelievable! It was truly romantic and memorable and magical. The staff couldnt stop congratulating us and surprised us by upgrading us to a suite for the night! I can't wait to go back!
Old world charm ”
the lucerne retains an old world charm, (think small gilded elevators that still make that "ding!" sound when you've reached your floor) in an otherwise very modern city. you could see that the hotel is very old yet very well maintained. rooms & hallways were very clean, being very allergic to dust & molds, there was not the hint of mustiness that usually comes with old places. what we especially enjoyed was its location. on the same block is a subway station plus there were plenty of nice cafes and restaurants around the area (specifically amsterdam st.). only downside though our room was across the housekeeping pantry and one time when i came to the room for an afternoon nap, i could hear the staff talking & even yelling loudly (!). otherwise, we enjoyed our stay.
