Lovely hotel with great view”
Value for money: Less than USD10 a night in low season. Location: Right in the middle of Cat Ba town on the main street, 20min walk to Cannon Fort, 10min to Cat Co beach. Cleanliness: Both room and bathroom are clean. Staff: Friendly and helpful. Facilities: Basic, but has everything as stated. No problem for video call. Awesome view to Cat Ba island. No water filler, common thing in Vietnam though. You have to buy. Lovely restaurant with lovely staffs.

Staying here was easy! Cat Ba town is small but this place is in a great location! Room view was great! Aircon and fan worked as should! Staff were helpful and cheap food at the restaurant downstairs! Would stay again!

Perfect kindness and integrity ”
We loved our stay at Thai Bao. The owner Victor was very attentive and kind, and the full day boat tour we booked through him was outstanding. He also helped us self manage other outings to save money and not be overcharged. This is a lovely, very basic hotel, excellent for people like us on backpacker budgets. We slept well because this hotel is not at the 'party end' of the beach strip. Highly recommended.

Ok for what you pay for !!!”
Stay at Thai Bao hotel for one night but the next day had no electricity. The hotel only provided back up electricity from 6AM to 9AM. Had to check out of the room by 9:00 Am because we were in 10 floor with some luggages.

We had a room on floor nine views over the bay it was lovely. We did sadlly find a cochroch..we told the owner and our room was cleansed. We had wonderful breakfast...I had the morning veggie Phou with rice noddles ..I am gluten intolerant. I also booked a trip which wad good value for money with them. I would recommend as havering a view on the bay is very beautifully...the room was big..maybe a lick of paint would be good. But with the prices keep it that way.recomded

excellent host, awesome view of cat ba but rooms need renovation”
the host was really helpful because after a certain bungalow hostel with a really good view cancelled our reservations without contacting us, this guy from thai bao happily assisted us and answered our queries. the room is a bit gloomy in reality than in photos and it looks like they need to check for bed bugs and maybe buy new sets of bed sheets. it was not a perfect experience but the kindness of the host made it not too bad.

It is worth paying a few extra dollars to get a room with a view of the bay! Fantastic. This hotel is right on the waterfront strip where all the action is. The restaurant is also good value with a nice assortment of western and Vietnamese choices. Mr. Win is knowledgeable and can set you up with any travel arrangements you need.

Good value for 1 night”
Good. It had a great view from the room and the service was exquisite. The owner made every attempt to meet our requests including scooter hire, ATM locations, good restaurants, island highlights and etc. The room itself was quite shabby (esp. the bathroom) but overall it was suitable for a 1 night stay where we mainly slept. I would recommend this place to budget travellers or those who do not mind sleeping in a slightly uncomfortable room for a short stay.

Victor is a warm and helpful man and I really enjoyed my stay at his hotel. The facilities were under construction and therefore there was a bit of noise in the mornings, but that means improvements are happening and the location can't be beat!

Bed bugs on the bed !!!!!”
We booked the hotel for 3 nights due to the great reviews but was utterly disappointed with our experience. First, it began with the foods that we ordered from the restaurant, the quality was disappointing, the Vietnamese Pho Ga (Chicken Noodle Soup) taste like instant noodles and the "fresh" spring roll, we ordered was actually stir fried vegetables with minced prawns wrap with fresh rice rolls. Then, considering the owner seems friendly, we decided to approach the owner for motorbike rental, however the price he offered was 100% higher than the rates we saw on the same street, hence we negotiated further with him. If there's any third party involved, we would understand why the hotel's price would be higher, however, in this case, the motorcycle belongs to the hotel - we couldn't understand the rational of being charged 100% higher than the others. In terms of the rooms, the floor of the room and toilet was a a bit sandy when we checked in, and remained the same throughout our stay, despite having housekeeping daily, but it was bearable. However, we couldn't bear it when we were bitten by bed bugs while staying in the hotel, which we highlighted to the hotel.

It'd stupid to expect a miracle booking a $10-a-night sea view double even in low season, and the view was great, but anyway it's been barely cozy room desperately needing face-lift (the neighboring one was far better and newer, so not all the same). The devil is in the details - despite passable first impression, old linens, thin towels, ramshackle wardrobe, untidy attempt to refresh wall painting, so many useless switches with only one for all the bulbs sticking from the ceiling, all that worn out things simply did not allow to feel comfortable there. On the other hand, we got large room, air con, fan, fridge, location and a basic breakfast, so the property may be a great bargain depending on what you pay and what room you get )

Facilities conveniently located at the harbor. However, we were given a horrible room 703. Hole in the bathroom wall that exposed to the outside and construction workers would be able to look in the bathroom. Also allowed bugs into the room
