Excellent!”

Our stay was perfect in every way. Our rooms were clean and comfy, and had all the amenities we required. We looked forward to the buffet breakfast every morning. The spread was small but more than adequate - there was toast, ham, bacon, fried rice & noodles, and a different selection of finger foods every morning like spring rolls and xiu mai. There was an egg station where we could get eggs fried or scrambled on the spot. We loved the fried bananas, & the fresh fruits too - passion fruit, pineapple and watermelon. There was also a choice of juices, and coffee & tea. Don't be put off by the small quantities displayed on the platters as the chefs will top them up freshly cooked without fail! Finally, a big thank you to Ms Charm and Ms Gai for being so friendly and helping us with our tour and transport arrangements. Than Thien Friendly Hotel lives up to its name and will definitely be our first choice in Hue!

Friendly Staff, Value for Price, Rooms, Bathroom, Breakfast

We had a great stay in the Than Thien Friendly Hotel. The staff is very helpful and friendly, the hotel is clean and new. Rooms were pretty nice with a great bathroom and enough space. Hotel is next to all the restaurants and bars in Hue (Touristy Spot). Breakfast with good coffee, fresh fruits, toast, rice and eggs to order was very good. The whole atmosphere is very relaxed, clean and friendly. We found this hotel the best value we had on our long trip through Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. I would come back to stay here.

Fantastic”

Loved my stay at the Than Thien Friendly hotel. Great breakfast with a ton if choices and for me particularly the front desk staff. I was moved to a great room after my first night and all the ladies at reception desk were amazing!! From helping me with renting a motor bike and all the directions and questions I had about where to go as well as organizing day trip to DMZ and booking an overnight to Cat Ba after I mistakenly told them Halong Bay. They were the best and I appreciate all the help they gave me. Would definitely recommend to others and stay here again my next trip to Hue.

Great little hotel”

Absoultely excellent value for money, very well located, lives up to it's name as "friendly hotel"

we stayed 4 nights a this hotel and really enjoyed our stay. the staff were so friendly and helpful, not pushy at all. we were a bit concerned initially because the price was quite cheap but than thien really is a friendly, clean, modern hotel. the only drawback is that rooms are small but that didn't bother us as we spent most days cycling or walking around the town. great town to visit. you can hire a bike from the hotel for us per day which is a perfect way to get around. the hotel also helps arrange local tours and private car between hue and hoi an, reasonable price.

Friendly by name, delightful by nature”

Well priced, good local knowledge, willingness to cater to guest's needs

We spent three nights in Hue and had a very pleasant stay at Than Thien hotel. Rooms were well appointed and very clean. Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly and gave good advice on taxi fares, tours, attractions to visit and even which ATMs were best to withdraw from. Staff also helped us book the next leg of our journey onwards to Hanoi via overnight train. We also met the owners of this hotel, who were charming and welcoming. Only con was no safe in the room, although reception helped keep valuables when needed. We were surprised with a free room upgrade on arrival, which was a treat. For the very modest price, we had a great stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Friendly, friendly, friendly! ”

Central location, friendly staff, free room upgrade, lovely included breakfast,

We stayed at the than thien friendly hotel on 15th February and arrived at 7am after long overnight bus journey. Our room wasn't ready but the lady at reception was very helpful and offered us the buffet breakfast for about 2 dollars each and then our room would be ready. Breakfast was lovely and had a huge variety. After breakfast we were shown to our room and had been upgraded for free. Lovely spacious room with plasma tv, walk in shower, fridge with 2 free bottles of water, free room service and breakfast included for the next morning all for £11 per night! The next morning at breakfast we were greeted by a friendly member of staff who happened to be the owner and was helping serve breakfast. He made us feel very welcome and was very friendly telling us his story of how he started up the hotel which you can read about in each of the rooms at the hotel. Overall, the hotel was amazing for the price we paid and had lovely staff and great breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.

No-frills hotel with good value.”

good value, clean rooms, centrally located

than thien sits on a mellow street off le loi in hue located near restaurants, shopping, and walking distance to the citadel. the deluxe double room we booked was not huge, but met our needs: clean, basic bathroom, air conditioned, and a nice view of the city. however, i did notice a musty smell when walking into the room that's been somewhat typical of other 2-star hotels we've stayed at in vietnam. it also would have been nice to use the desk chair if there was enough space between the desk and the bed, but no biggie. service was fine, with friendly staff greeting you every morning. the free breakfast wasn't anything to write home about, but eggs made-to-order, fresh fruit, and fried rice did the job. we did find a great restaurant called lien hoa that specialized in vegetarian hue cuisine just minutes from the hotel. all-in-all, than thien is a no-frills hotel with good value and would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent place to crash while in the lovely hue town.

wow, what a little gem of a hotel, right in the midst of the tourist/backpacking area. after being in nam 2 months previous with my wife, staying in 3 and 4 star accom i have returned to explore the real vietnam as a 50 yr old solo traveller. i studied all of the forums and lonely planet and came up with than thien to start my journey. the staff are fantastic, knowledgeable and willing to help out with anything. the rooms are very well appointed, air-con, mini-bar, free wifi and everything is brand new. the beds are really comfortable which can be a bit of a lottery in nam . the breakfast and room cleaning are also exceptional. when i come back to hue i will definitely be staying here again. room tip: my room did not have a view but for the price i did not mind

Super clean and new hotel”

Owner takes pride in his hotel

By far one of the best hotels we've stayed in Vietnam. For the money we paid, we had the cleanest hotel in a central location in Hue. The front desk staff was very helpful and knowledgeable in helping us plan our stay in Hue. We had very limited time and she knew exactly how to organize our stay efficiently. We really appreciated the concise plans, it really helped take away some headaches of planning on our own in such a short time in Hue. The hotel is only a block from the Perfume River and about a good 30 or so minutes walk along Le Loi street to the Citadel. If you have time, it's not a bad stroll to take. The dining area is also super clean and tidy, nice layout of the room makes it quite cozy. The breakfast selection is not as ample as some of the 4+ stars hotel (obviously), but I can say I probably ate more here than in the fancier hotels. The food seems more homemade and less greasy. They also have the kitchen prep area behind glass walls, so you can totally see how clean it is inside!! The owner was there morning to greet the hotel guests. How nice and welcoming. Obviously someone who takes a lot of pride in his business! The only slight negative is the room was on the small side. But it had everything we needed.

Friendly, just as promised!”

Excellent value for money (just as good as some hotels charging double the rate in bigger cities); warm and friendly service

Good location, quite close to all the restaurants on the south bank of Hue. The room was spotlessly clean and bathroom facilities all modern and well maintained. Lovely painting on the wall. Our room had no windows but given the price I have no complaints! It's worth reading the owner's life story of trials through the American war, of winning a scholarship to study overseas to his eventual triumph in opening a hotel. He has a heart of gold and after coming across a lot of people here who just want to make as much money as possible from tourists, it was a pleasure to be in a family owned hotel where they believe in looking after their guests and only charge what is reasonable. THe owner also runs an outreach programme at the hotel to help Hue students practice their English called 'Tea and Talk'. This is something you might consider working into your itinerary in Hue - we wanted to but it was university holidays.

More than friendly”

Wonderful owner

Very clean and modern hotel situated on a side street two minutes from the main tourist center. Very good WI FI connection / breakfast also included in the price is more than enough - for me the best part was the fruit section. I can`t say enough good things about the owner of the hotel Mr. Thuy, who did everything and more to facilitate my stay at his hotel. From the morning, welcoming the guests at the breakfast to late at night you could meet him in the reception area, nothing was too big a problem to help his guests. I personally organized my trip from Hue to Hoi An on the bike so I had the problem of how to take my suitcase with me to the next hotel in Hoi An, but this was not a problem for Mr.Thuy who offered to deliver my luggage to the next hotel by car free of charge. He told me he never have done it this in the past but it certainly will not be a problem. I had very mixed feelings because I was not 100% sure if my baggage will reach Hoi An, but of course was already there when I arrived to the new hotel in the evening. As I mentioned above I can`t say enough good things about this hotel / owner. I would certainly recommend this hotel to all my friends and I would stay there again if I will ever go back to Hue.

Lovely new hotel”

Comfortable beds with duvets

Our stay at the Than Thien hotel was lovely. We were in a new room on the 4th floor - not too big, not too small. Room had a view of the rooftops of Hue, mini-fridge, TV and nice bathroom with hot shower. Really nice bed, the nicest we've seen so far in VN. Breakfast was made to order and was a choice of eggs or noodle soup. Staff was nice and seemed eager to help guests. My only complaint was the spotty Wifi connection - but for the price we paid, I can't complain too much!

Very friendly and helpful staff”

great staff, great breakfast, great room

Probably the best hotel during my 25 day stay in Vietnam. The staff is great and actually really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a nice buffet. And I really liked the room. Personally I wasnt too stunned by Hue itself, as the citadel was nice and worth a visit, but I really loved my (rather adventurous - so maybe go there guided if you are not about adventures) bicycle tour from the hotel to the Thien Mu Pagoda, Temple of Literature, Chua Huyen Khong, Minh Mang tomb, Khai Dinh tomb, Tu Duc tomb (about 35km). So those sights really are worth it, if you ask me!

Great value! Very pleased.”

So cheap, and the people were genuinely nice.

I debated splurging a bit more, but as my family is from Hue, my mother was already upset that I booked a room for more than $10USD, lol. Hue is known for being one of the poorest cities in Vietnam, so do not let the low rates fool you! I ended up choosing this hotel because of the reviews, and they were completely correct. No frills, but clean and fully served its purpose. Plus the people are so nice here, especially compared to the mean Northerners! (Ahem, Hanoi, ahem.)

Staff super friendly, rooms were spotless, complimentry water, laundry returned very quickly, great breakfast

this hotel is fantastic. cheaper than most of the hotels we have stayed in over our month in vietnam it was by far the most pleasant stay. breakfast was also one of the best we have had (fresh passion fruit was great and they will cook eggs exactly how you like them in the open kitchen so you can watch). the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. the rooms were super clean and still look very new. most of the hotels in hue are in this area which is a bit of a walk from the citadel/market etc but there are always plenty of cyclos waiting to be haggled down for a cheap trip over the bridge. great street food and cheap restaurant surround the area too. if we visit hue again we will definately return.

Friendly, great breakfast, amazing room

This place is amazing. I have never stayed at a place that is that clean, and yes, friendly! I upgraded rooms for $3 when I got there and the room was gorgeous and extremely clean. The bathroom actually had a shower enclosure, which was a nice change! The buffet breakfast was wonderful. The staff were amazing. They gave me information on tours that they offer, but never was I pressured. I also read many reviews mentioning the rooster, I am happy to say that it must be gone, it was very quiet and peaceful. I slept better there than in most places I have stayed. I can't imagine a better place for the price. I have paid the same price for many places that were decent, but did not compare in any way to this one. The value is amazing. If I am ever back in Hue I will absolutely stay there again. After staying for 5 nights it was kinda hard to say goodbye. Thanks to all of the staff for a wonderful stay :) You were amazing!

look no further”

staff, location, comfort,

This is my fourth hotel in Hue, moving around until I find perfection. This hotel is pretty close to perfect. Pay more/less and receive more/less. Perfection is in the breakfast - Fantastic staff and their buffet breakfast shames everywhere else. And the breakfast restaurant itself is a wonderful room, not just a few tables and chairs. The bedrooms are pretty much as one would expect with full en-suite and everything working. For me as a resident of Hue I do make more use of the TV which is up to date LCD and a lovely size screen. Make sure you read the hotel blurb - there is 3 sides of A4 about the owner. Read it and weep tears of shame and joy. He runs a weekly session for Vietnamese locals (usually students) to come in for an hour and chat to ExPats. Presumably this geared towards English but I expect other languages would be welcome too. It is also about cultural sharing - give-and-take. The Vietnamese everywhere are so friendly I just feel it an opportunity to put something back in. An so my usual 2 nightly move along has been halted - I am here for at least a week! Come and join us.

Location; Friendly Staff; Room Cleanliness and Comfortability; Price

i was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the than thien hotel. the rooms are clean comfortable, and spacious. the free breakfast in the morning is delicious and comes with a wide selection--eggs, fruit, fresh bread, pastries, tea, coffee, juice, etc. it's also conveniently located. it's a bit of a walk from the citadel and forbidden city, but it's doable, and it's easy walking distance from all the restaurants and bars. overall, i had a great stay and would definitely recommend staying at the than thien hotel. the price was certainly right!
