We were very happy with our choice!”
We returned to Yangon for a 2 week visit after previously living there for 3 years. This time we had 3 small children with us. Traveling with small children is always a challenge but all the staff went out of their way to help us in many different matters. Our kids had a great time and enjoyed playing with the staff in the downstairs area - a nice undercover outdoor seating area that is a nice place to relax after a day in bustling Yangon. The owners are very friendly and do a lot to make sure your stay is great. The rooms are tastefully designed and very clean. Breakfasts are great - an option of a different Burmese breakfast each day or the usual continental. Always enough food and very tasty! The backup generator for the frequent power cuts meant that we could always have aircon when we wanted. The place itself is situated in a really quiet street but within a short walk to Myanmar Plaza. Would definitely stay there again.

Amazing guest house”
Very cute hostel, amazing staff, great food. One of our friend had her birthday and they prepared a surprise birthday for her! They took really good care of us. And the food was amazing. We recommend the Shan noodles. Moreover, the beds were really comfortable and the room and bathroom where very clean!

amazing breakfast! Clean comfy place”
It is a bit outside the centre but near a beautiful lake, mall and coffee shops. Grab in Myanmar is super cheap so it costs you 2gbp to get to anywhere you want pretty much :) the place is clean, you do share a bathroom but we had no issues. Breakfast is insane! Noodles for breakfast were superb, if you get continental- loads of toast, tea, jam.

The rooms are very nice and clean. Staffs are super friendly and warm, it was like coming home to a family. Breakfast is nice. Internet is great.

Boss and staff is very helpful”
I intended to stay there however, i booked a mixed room which I was very uncomfortable. So I told the staff, they are very very helpful and let me cancel the room. I am very graceful to the boss as well. He is a pure gentleman. I like the lady staff too. Anyways I manage to book the correct room this time round. Kudos to the services this guys offering.

Good overall experience ”
Pros: The staff does a great job of maintaining cleanliness of GH bedrooms. They’re all very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is always good. Cons: the security and privacy. The doors to the rooms have several small holes and people can see in. The door handle locks are flimsy and didn’t give me much security. Also, the bathrooms (only two for shared use) aren’t nice. As a solo traveler, I was concerned about my safety. And finally, there’s a lot of noise from the other rooms (thin walls) and outside. It’s not a bad option but I was definitely surprised that this was rated the best GH in Yangon.

Than Lwin guest house is a comfortable, casual accommodation in a lovely wooden house. A common area brings people together to eat or relax. The staff make you feel like you are at home. Easy bus ride into the city and main attractions. Myanmar plaza at your doorstep. Worth a visit to see the food court.

quiet, clean and close to airport bus”
good option to avoid taxi mafia in yangon as the bus to/from the ariport (24/7) stops in front of closeby shopping mall "marketplace myanmar plaza" located in quiet area. dorm right next to entrance a bit noisy because of entrance sliding door and is used during the night as well. recommend the traditional breakfast and shan noodles they offer at night.

Bed rooms are clean and sufficient. One more small table to use would be perfect. Bathroom shower has small thing to fix. Breakfast area can be up grade to intentional standard . The food is tasty but coffee is not hot.

Like rugged camp in the city - it is a Hostel”
Pros: bed n pillow comfortable, room reasonably clean, staff friendly, bring your own towels n lock Cons: no locks available to rent or purchase for cabinet, no key for room door either, no lock to front door ( this very uncommon for Yangon which typically has triple locked including access to lift). Female room for 4 is on ground floor ( unheard of to sleep on ground floor in Asia, especially w/o locks). Main door to building is glass slider, but no handle nor latch even. Windows have no screen. (Mosquitoes an issue in Yangon). I awoke with something had gotten into my ear causing blood. Top bunk has no rail nor handle to help climb in/out or prevent from rolling off. Ground floor bathroom is filthy. Only place to sit is outside under thatched roof with dirt floor ( not in pictures) - I am just glad it was not rainy season; which is an issue with living on ground floor w/o tall step up to prevent water flowing in. For price of 2or 3, you can get nice hotel with good breakfast too.

A Little Funky”
If I was a backpacker it would be passable. My private room had windows looking out at adjacent buildings and it was bare bones. The bathroom had much to be desired. Glad it was only one night.

Awful experience of discrimination”
I am actually not entitled to write a review, cos I have no experience living in the guest house--Being denied access to the guest house, being a Chinese nationality. Because of the virus!?! I am already in Myanmar for one month... Got several mosquito bites in my brief stay in the yard, so no judgment about its service, except Manager threatened to call the authority if I do not leave. But she knew if she called, the person who would get into trouble would be her. Well well, this is understandable but absolutely wrong. Really bad mannered. Not recommended.

Thanlwin Guest House is an excellent option for those who don't want to pay the over-inflated prices for a hotel room in Yangon. Plus it's a good option for those who want to meet and converse with other travelers as well as experience a warm and friendly staff. The outdoor eating "hut" is great and the complementary breakfast was excellent. The neighborhood around the guest house is safe and much quieter and cleaner than downtown. The lake makes for a pleasant walk and to watch the busy locals go about their daily routines. Although there were some large hotel construction projects going on nearby at the time of my stay they weren't very noticeable while Thanlwin because it is located down a relatively quiet and gated residential street.
