We stayed at Thapwarin Resort for a week and it was the perfect holiday experience. The setting was fantastic with perfect water and a nice white beach. The environment was perfect for relaxing. The staff was welcoming and was showing sincere hospitality. The cottages were authentic and clean. Koh Ngai is a small island with only a small number of resorts. Therefore, there is almost no nightlife. If you need to relax in a beautiful environment we would definitely recommend Koh Ngai and Tapwarin Resort.
Fantastic 7 nights at Thapwarin”
We had faboulous 7 nights at Thapwarin Resort in a Garden Bungalow. We were already the 6th time in Thailand and this was one of our best weeks we had so far. The bungalow was spacious and clean, equipped with everything you'd need (moskito net, queen size bed, shower). But the highlight of Thapwarin is the restaurant in combination with the staff. Extraordinary friendly, very fast and attentive, very obliging and they never forgot something we ordered (forgetting is very common in Thailand but not here). In addition, the taste of the food was unique and need to be highlighted. We will see u again Thapwarin / Koh Ngai :-)
A must do!”
If you're thinking of going down to Koh Lipe, you should make a stop past Thapwarin on Koh Ngai! If you're not into crowds, loud music and being harassed to buy trinkets or even massages then this place is for you. Staff were amazing, restaurant serves quality food and the view is to die for. This being our 2nd time to Thailand island hopping so we probably won't be back this way again too soon but it was by far our favorite out of every resort we've stayed at from Koh Lanta, Koh Ngai, Koh Mook (Koh Muk), Koh Kradan and Koh Lipe. Highly recommended!
Best Value for money on the island”
We did a lot of research on the accomodation in Koh Ngai - it was definitely worth it. The island is very heterogeneous in terms of hotel prices, Thapwarin is definitely the best. Bungalows are smal but very nice with outdoor bathrooms. The beach is great, staff is friendly. Only negative thing, restaurant is too expensive.
Great beachfront bungalow”
Ko Ngai is still a nice remote island in Trang area! The Thapwarin is in our opinion the best choice on the whole island! It is located nearlly at the end of the beach, far away from the busy areas. We stayed for 3 nights in a beachfront bungalow which is really great!! If you go there, this is the only choice! You have really seaview of your bed and you have your own sunbeds on your private terrace outside. Breakfast is great, food is great!
After studying the Lonely Planet and deciding to avoid anywhere it recommended we traveled to Koh Ngai and glad we did. So far it has managed to avoid being ruined with backpacker hotels and escort bars. Most of the dozen or so hotels are upmarket and attracted a more sedate or older clientele. The staff were great and bent over backwards to help us. As I said above there is a fairly noisy generator behind the hotel which can be heard if you stay in one of the rooms away from the sea, however it is being replaced sometime soon. Great stay.
We stayed here in Feb. 2018 for 4 nights but wish we could have stayed a little longer. The bungalows are cute as can be and very comfortable. It was so nice to be barefoot for all the time we were there. Soft sand from beach to all of the buildings. The views are spectacular and there are great outer islands to explore. Wonderful snorkeling at Ngai and the other spots including Koh Mook and Koh Wen. The food and drinks were great. Jay, the Head of Reception (I think) was just lovely. All of the staff were so much fun to converse with and the service was top notch. We hope to return next year
Island Paradise (but it will cost you)”
Koh Ngai was beautiful and relaxing. The resort staff were attentive. The food was good but expensive. There are a few standalone restaurants down the beach where you will pay half for a pad Thai and 30 baht less for a beer. But given the remoteness and peace and quiet it was worth every penny. We stayed in a Warin cottage for 3 nights and loved it.
Tranquil, nice and beautiful”
at thapwarin i stayed for 9 nights, alone, since i needed time off from work, project, country i currently stay in and more. i chose this place due to the fact, that there are no roads, cars, motorcycles, disco's or similar on koh ngai - and it suited me perfectly. i have no doubt that i would like to return again one day, but then it will be along with my girlfriend. still, the stay did to me exactly what was the intention to begin with... i stressed down and re-energised again. lovely, beautiful and tranquil place.
Good location ”
Koh Ngai is still have nature. Look like private beach . All staff have service mind and food is delicious , not too expensive . Clearn room. However, Beach still have many stone . Please be careful when you swimming . Overall is very good place . Recommend to come and stay here.
Lovely hotel, incedibly beautiful view”
the hotel staff is very nice, they take care of minimum details, decoration of dishes and drinks, when cleaning rooms, everything. dinner is a little bit more expensive than other hotels, but the price is already inclusive of vat, what does not happen in all the hotels. i have visited others during my stay, thapwarin beach can only be enjoyed in the morning, while in others you can use it all day, but still, based on price and what you get, thapwarin is a great deal. they can offer discount at transfer prices if necessary, just talk to the manager in charge.
Lovely bungalows and nice people”
For people who like to read books and rest in a deckchair I recommend Ko Ngai and specially Thapwarin resort. For those who want a super beach and swimmining around I recommend the island Koh Muk instead.
Lovely hotel, excellent location and service”
Excellent service I never had! Very friendly and help me a lot of things when I had difficult problem about my trip during when I stay. Food at the restaurant is the best in the beach. Seafood grills are the best. Beachfront is crystal clear, private and romance if you are looking for. Excellent value the money you paid. I am very impressed the employees of the hotel. Knowdelable, friendly and helpful. Thapwarin will be my destination again when I am back to Thailand.
Best on the beach”
lovely staff, the food's better at coco cottages next door but the rooms and general layout/ambience are great at thapwarin. having walked the beach it seems the best location of the 15-odd hotels, being a bit more secluded than most. would definitely stay again (in fact have been there twice already). super for kids too!
The hotel is situated on a quiet Island of Koh Ngai in Trang.
An incredibly beatiful place and a resort with charming bungalows. Bungalows have thin walls so you'll sleep and wake up to the noises of the jungle! The thunder did wake us up one night, though. Barely any families with children at all, so very quiet. Percfect for couples who want an extremely relaxed, romantic and slow holiday (we even lost track of time). Not much to do but relax in the shade or sun, admire the view, soak in the sea or take a walk on the beach. Resort can arrange snorkelling tours to some great spots and there are canoes to rent. Would not recommend this place for families with children! No tv, no refridgerators and open air bathrooms which means you'll have to live with a few bugs and lizards. Complimentary water warm. Very nicely kept and clean. Good breakfasts with fruit, toast and omelet cook. Good food at the restaurant at fairly decent prices, but all drinks are expensive. There's a beautifully situated spa on the resort grounds, but since it rained every afternoon we didn't get around to trying it. Very, very helpful and friendly staff. We extended our stay and are definitely coming back some time for some real relaxation. Tip: Bring snorkelling shoes or sandals that can take water since there are a lot of dead coral on the sea bed.
Perfect getaway under the sun”
We traveld with our 10 month old daughter in oktober 2013. As it was the end of rainy season we got a great price for our room. Great pickup at the airport, first minibus, then longtail boat. From the moment we sat our feet on the Beach we felt very welcome. The staff was so friendly and our daughter loved them from the begining. They often walked around with her on their arms and she was just smileing and having a blast. The room was located right on the Beach, there where a good air-con, big bed, baby-cut, beautifull but not very varm shower/bathroom, nice balcony with sun chairs and a great view. The staff at the restaurant were also very friendly and helpful. The food was good ( we mostly had the thai dishes) and so was the drinks. Some of the dishes were sold out, but that is what you can espect, when you are staying on such a small Island. The resort arranged a snorkeling trip for us and while we were snorkeling, the staff were babysitting our Little girl - what a great service! If you want a quiet, beautifull and relaxing stay you shuld go there, we could absolutely recomend this resort. If you are looking for great snorkeling, big parties, many restaurants and shops, then pick an other place. We have traveld a lot, and this is one of the best places we have been to, so we really hope to come back!
Pleasant hotel on beautiful island”
Koh Ngai is a very beautiful island and the reef surrounding the island has some great snorkeling. The hotel in itself was cosy and clean but not as nice as I got the impression it would be by looking at the pictures on the website. We had two big lizards which seemed to live in our bathroom. As stated above, a bit more expensive than other hotels on the island and not very helpful about tips about things to do that they did not provide. For example, we asked about renting kayaks which they claimed they knew nothing about even though the hotel next door had lots for rent.
The view is absolutely AMAZING !!! We have enjoyed our beachfront bungalow in Koh Ngai. What's a beautiful island ! The staff is kind and the restaurant is fine.
NIce natural hotel”
The hotel was very nice. It was clean enough but it smelled not good because the bamboo was not impregnated corretly. So it smelled quite bad when it was raining some days. The beach was very nice and clean. Unfortunately the coral reef was destroyed by the motorboats of the Thai boatmen. The transport with boats is the most expensive thing in Thailand. You can drive with a new expesive taxi 30 km for 4 Euros but you pay 50 Euro for 5 km on a very old boat. This is because of the boat mafia everywhere in Thailand. The most beautiful thing is to visit the cave on Koh Muk. The best way to go inside is with a canoe, but it is nearly a war to get the possibility to do that. The Thai mafia wants to earn money with their boats and tell you lies about "danger". But the most save way is to use a canoe. I would recommend to go to Koh Muk or to Koh Lanta and visit from there the other island. Koh Krandan does not look good anymore - too many hotels and extremely much waste everywhere. You have to cry when you see the island with all the waste.
