Good location, yummy breakfast.”

clean rooms, yummy breakfast, and great location.

Went with my Australian husband on a visit back to Malaysia and our favourite town. We've been to Melaka many times, but this was our first stay at Baba House. VALUE-FOR-MONEY: Previously we stayed at budget backpacker-style places. So, Baba House was a little more expensive. However, it was easily the most comfortable place we've been to. A little bit more than a hostel, but still affordable. LOCATION: The location is PERFECT! Close enough to walk (comfortably) to all the historic places and good eats. But not so close to be bothered by street traffic. We drove down from KL, parked our car at the back of the hotel, and left it there until we were ready to leave. We didn't need it. We really could walk everywhere. (NOTE: Although the hotel's carpark is free, it wasn't easy to find. You actually have to drive past the hotel, make a left turn, then make several zig-zags before you can find it. We had to get directions...) BREAKFAST: The buffet breakfast was yummy, with lots of choice. The cafe area where they served it was a bit crowded, so we took our plates to the large, indoor courtyard area to eat in comfort.

Great Location”

near by Jonker Street
nothing bad

The baba house hotel we stay was good, great location, room clean and comfortable even small room, but for me ,so far ok. The staff of receiption helpful and friendly. The breakfast is very basic, got mee goreng, toast, chicken sausage, orange juice, coffee or tea, etc. The location also good, just walk around 2 minute to Jonker Street. The parking also got limited, we can park in the side of this hotel. We will choose this hotel again.

Perfect for its price”

Price, Location, and Design

Malacca was only a one night stop over for my family before our final destination in KL. The Baba House was the best value for money in terms of getting a room for just one short night. Near to Jonker street so we can have a quick shop around - Yes! Private free carpark with security guard at night -Yes! Quick check in and check out- Yes! Free internet at lobby - Yes! Beautiful traditional baba design (even the door knobs were traditional baba design) -Yes! The only drawback is that our room had no window but it made up with a high ceiling. Would definitely go back again.

Great location, clean and beautiful rooms”

Location, beautiful building, very clean rooms

The Baba House is located very conveniently in the heart of China Town. It's only a two-minutes walk to Jonker Street and its night market. Almost all parts of the city are at walking distance. As can be guessed by the name, the hotel is in a traditional baba-nonya building and the entrance hall etc is beautifully decorated. The rooms are a good size and very clean. Staff is friendly. Breakfast was a bit disappointing but still all right. The hotel has its onw spa, but I didn't get to try it.

Lovely hotel and excellent service”

Great Location
not much varieties for breakfast and no Wifi connectivity in room

The baba house hotel is a good hotel with great location for budget tourists. It is just a short walking distance to many of the restaurants such as nynon food and chicken ball rice . Jonker Street and some of the tourist spots are also just foots away. Breakfast was included but not much varieties, only noodle, sausages and bread, orange juice, coffee or tea were served. The room is clean and comfortable. The staffs at receiption are helpful and friendly. However,I was unable to login the free WIFI in the room which is very frustrating. There is only connectivity in the lobby.

The Baba House Hotel Malacca (Melaka) ”

The Baba House Hotel Malacca (Melaka) Right in the centre of China Town, a walk to everything
The Baba House Hotel Malacca (Melaka) No Fridge in Room

The Baba House Hotel Malacca (Melaka) Located in the heart of China Town and you can walk to everything. Shops, Restaurants, and the old Port Area. The Hotel is decorated with old chinese furniture and the room was very clean and tidy but had no fridge. We got a room with a window on the ground floor which looked out onto a small courtyard where you could sit and have a drink or a smoke. The Breakfast was adequate but not great the Lady in the Restaurant was very friendly and considering what we had paid it was fine.

Great location but basic rooms”

great location, friendly staff, free pass to the Bird Museum, free wifi

The Baba House has one of the best location if you want to visit Malacca. All the main sights - the museums, Stadthuys, river cruise, shopping malls, Jonker street and lots of food options - are within walking distance. The hotel also has free wifi and friendly staff who are more than willing to help with your enquiries. There's also an inhouse spa with massasge. Although the rooms are small, it's clean and comfortable. I do wish they had a mini fridge though. A downside is that the breakfast is very limited and not very good. Just oily fried noodles (which can be cold)... some eggs or sausage... coffe/tes/orange juice. Sometimes you get a small banana. We will definately be back!

Great location, good value for room & services”

location, fenced carpark, comfortable, ancient theme with modern features

Location - A street away from Jonker St, very accessible and without the noise of Jonker St. Carpark - Properly fenced up (bricks wall) with locked gate and 24hrs on guard, limited space, about 15 lots or so. Place is not easy to find, you gotta print a map and watch out for the one-way street restrictions. Ambiance - Baba & Nyonya themed, but with modern features such as elevator & card key system. Room - Spacious - for a budget hotel, laminated flooring (supposed to be more hygienic), though abit dusty, we had to wore slipper in the room. Air-con is individually controlled. Bed - Clean and comfortable. Wifi - working fine, just get the password from reception. Breakfast - so-so, but it's free. Toast and eggs are good.

Full of Peranakan charms and great location”

Location, convenience, culturally interesting, reasonable price

If you’re in Malacca to soak in the Peranakan charms and partake of the sights and sounds of Jonker Street, The Baba House is a great choice. The boutique hotel is itself a treasure trove of Peranakan culture and it’s literally just round the corner from the famous street (3 minutes’ walk tops). Our room had no windows but surprisingly it wasn’t as bad as feared. The toilet was small but the room size was OK, there was enough space for two. It’s bare walls and basic, but for US$30 a night (without breakfast), you get clean sheets, towels, mini sized toiletries (wasn’t even expecting it), bedroom slippers, TV, kettle and two packets of 3-in-1 coffee. Oh yes, and free wi-fi! For the price – and location – you really can’t complain.

Baba Brilliant !”

Location, ambiance, simplicity and value for money
No windows in rooms

We booked the Baba House because the more expensive Puri, was not available. Best decision we could have made ! The Baba House is practically next door to the Puri on the same street. The Hotel is in the old part of Melaka, 250 metres from the antiques shops, restaurants and Jonker Street. It is worth every cent. The rooms are basic, breakfast basic, everything basic ! But if you want to experience Melaka the way it should be experienced this place is for you. Rooms are comfy, but have no windows. Shower is very big and the TV is crap ! The decor in the Hotel, is wonderful and the location is absolutely perfec as you dont get all the noise of Jonker Street, but you are only a 5 minute walk from all the action. Loved the place and will stay there every time we visit this charming city.

Value hotel, great location & clean hygience room”

Hotel with local culture architecture

i like baba house. this is a real but probably 2 star hotel. i checked in tang house after that. and tang house is a hostel. and tang house room rate is only cheaper than this hotel rate at rm per night for two person ! therefore, you should check in baba house and not other hostel. baba house is a real hotel, with proper reception counter, bigger room, blanket and bed sheet change after guest check out ( tang house didn't change so it is not hygience ), and you have your own toilet, bathroom, basin unlike tang house, tang house is a hostel, so you share bathroom/toilet/basin with others. and baba house will give you compliment mineral for two ! with tv also inside the room ! with all benefits mentioned above, it costs only rm10 ( or us$3 ) more expensive than tang house. so i will check in baba house and recommend this hotel to my friend in future.

Excellent location”

Location, value for money, helpful frontdesk

For tourists who like to ply Jonker street and nearby area, this hotel offers excellent location. It's located on the next street that runs parallel to Jonker Street. It's away from the hustle n bustle yet very close to the action. The frontdesk folks are helpful. The rooms we stayed is alright with very cold air-conditioner. The breakfast, like many have reviewed, is nothing great. But the surrounding cafes and eateries made up the shortfall (or maybe that's the reason why they didn't want to improve on the breakfast menu, there's just too many good food around). Overall Baba House hotel is a value for money and we had a pleasant stay.

Great location, comfy rooms, traditional feel”

Good value for money

The best place to stay, for those who wants to feel the vibrant energy of the city, is along Jonker Walk. And Baba House is a very affordable, yet comfortable and clean place to stay in Jonker Walk. It is situated just a road behind the busy Jonker street festival that happens every weekend in Malacca. A quiet tucked place, but only a few steps away to the centre of energy of the city. Bathrooms are clean. Place is a bit old, the air con can be a bit too cold sometimes, but otherwise, pleasant place to stay in.

Charming and Quaint”

Location, old world ambiance, helpful staff

We purposely chose the Baba House Hotel because we wanted to stay in a local old home that had been converted to a hotel. The hotel has so much history and character. One got some feeling of how it was 100 years ago. It had enough modern amenities--AC, hot water in the bathroom but unfortunately, our old TV did not work. The latter was not a big deal as we did not go to Malacca to watch TV. There were other interesting things to do, to see, to eat. The hotel was a 2-minute walk to the weekend night market so that was a lot of fun too. During the day, we filled our time going to the nearby museums, churches, etc.

Great location”

Location, Price, Parking

When in Melaka, I've chosen the Baba House these last 10 years or so. It's undergone some changes in management, layout and facilities but the basics thankfully remain - great location at an affordable price, and with free parking thrown in. If you're looking for a big hotel breakfast buffet spread, or a room equipped with hundreds of cable TV channels, or a luxurious stay you'll probably be best served looking elsewhere. The cafe serves some simple tasty meals and now there is a massage/spa place where I actually had an enjoyable deep-tissue/muscle massage for the first time - and greatly enjoyed it - and of course the location just can't be beat. It's a stone's throw from the rejuvenated riverfront and all the historical areas, and also a walk away from the night market along Jonker Walk every weekend. If you like Pork Satay (Satay Babi) the famous Sun May Hiong Satay Babi is a short walk away too. The renovated rooms are still simple, but comfortable and generally well-kept. I never bother with the TV, but now there's free wi-fi and that is helpful too.

Second Visit And Will Come Back For More”

For a place to rest our aching legs and tired body after a whole day of touring Melacca, Baba House Hotel is not only economical and affordable, it's quite a pleasant place to stay too. However, the breakfast are always the same (I've stayed there for 3 breakfast already), even though my stays are one month apart, and it taste and looks awful. In fact, only thing that looks good are the bread !! But well, you get what you pay for, and I'll still stay there for my next visit. Just that I won't take the breakfast anymore.
