Surrounded by mountains, rolling hills, and located on a well-manicured landscape, this English-styled inn offers a refreshing ambiance. Enjoy staying at this countryside property, where guests will find it quite peaceful and serene, making it ideal for a quiet getaway. Not too far from Malaysia's famous forest in the Cameron Highlands, The Bala's Holiday Chalet is fully refurbished and fitted with antique furnishings, hence it is a perfect personification of a British cottage from the olden days. Nostalgic quiet hotel”
We were really disappointed with Cameron Highlands, especially Tanah Rata, which was basically an overcrowded tourist trap selling plastic things. Bala's Chalet helped make it a lot more tolerable. The room was much cleaner than expected from the reviews we read here. There was a musky smell but it was to be expected from the climate and building materials. Just 5mins of opening the window and the smell was gone.
Great location & comfortable family rooms”
my family and i had a wonderful stay at bala's holiday chalet. the children were so satisfied that they would want to stay for another day. cameron highland always a great place for family holiday and with bala's holiday chalet, the travelling effort to cameron highland seems enjoyable.
Beautiful exterior ! ”
Planters Country Hotel (Bala's Chalet) is a good value for money, its exterior is breathtaking! The colonial look suits Cameron's chill weather very well. Staffs were also nice and accommodating. Requested a room close to the lobby as we were taking an elderly and they fulfilled it. Our executive suite was located right behind the entrance. (Previous reviews mentioned having to hike up flights of stairs to their rooms which might be true, there were rooms located up the hill from where the lobby is. Stairs looked pretty steep too.) Definitely not a 'hotel' if you're looking for a place with room service etc. For example, ironing facility is only provided at a common area. Place looked and felt a bit eerie at night but overall, a good and cosy place to stay !
Dear Ms Syarafina, Glad to hear that you had a pleasant stay in our hotel. Thank You very much and we appreciate it. Hope to see you again. Regards, Mr. Johanan
Great location and ambience”
It was a pleasant stay for us at Bala's Chalet this week and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the place. The service is exceptional and kitchen in particular were great in providing us with customised food items to ensure our kid's needs were met. Charan in kitchen staff especially took great care of us in our time. Bala's special scones with masala tea is a must have delicacy at the hotel!!
Beautiful surroundings and charming colonial-style architecture. The owner Mr Bala was enthusiastic in catering to our every need, and was a very warm and welcoming presence. The 8-person suite that we booked was very value-for-money, however, it is worth noting that the bathroom facilities were a bit basic. The sink did not have a drain and instead flowed across the bathroom floor into the shower, hence making tooth brushing and washing inconvenient. Furthermore, the water heating system is a bit fickle, and in the cold highland climate this can lead to freezing showers. There is also nowhere to hang any clothing and the shelf for bath products is small, which seems inadequate for a room housing so many people. However, there is also much to praise about this property. They have a hearty in-house breakfast, shuttle bus services and convenient access to Tanah Rata and other areas in the highlands. It is worth the trip for the romantic view of the garden.
British Victoria style. Comparable with smokehouse”
Strategic location. 5 mins to tanah rata. 5 mins to cameron highland resort to have high tea. 6 mins to brinchang night market. 15 mins to brinchang steamboat. 5 mins to abang strawberry farm in parit fall. Took so many nice photos at the hotel compound. But why breakfast is not included? Overall experience is 80% though. Will recommend to friends and family.
Great place for stress "detoxifying".”
Set on the hill overlooking Tanah Rata, the chalet is a perfect place for relaxation. Lounging in the garden in the afternoon in a perfectly calm setting was really a sensation to be immersed in. Don't forget to close the windows in the day time if you don't want your room to really be very cold at night. Nights are almost freezer-like. Definitely enjoyed our stay at this location!
Traveled with family of 5 and we enjoyed it!”
Traveled with kids aging 14, 11 and 9. We were given the room that sits across the garden with a bench on our small entrance. Cozy room. Garden was refreshing. Staffs and its owner were very helpful and accommodating. Especially when our car broke down during our stay. They helped us get back on our way by helping out with the local workshop. Good deeds. Very good deeds. Note: Workshops in Cameron open during weekends. Apart of that, we had no issue with the bathroom. Although the toilet works but no hot water or quite minimal of it. So we kept boiling hot water to bathe in. We had a good time staying there and would repeat our stay if we can manage another trip to Cameron Highlands again.
It was an enjoyable stay in Bala's holiday chalet ”
We have 6 persons my husband and I , my old parents and 2 childrens and we all like Bala's holiday chalet. The room are quite big and the scenary is fanstactic. However it was a bit humid in the room because of the weather . Mr Bala is very nice to us and he provided free bus to go to town and pick up when we finished shopping. The hotel is very owsome and we hope to come again in near future.
For captivating elegance, nothing tops the facade of this hotel, with its English courtyard, white sash windows, carved marble pediments, and roof topped with chimneys and gilded weather vanes. If it seems lifted from a Rembrandt painting, that's because this hotel's celebrated city-center site has a long and varied history: it was built in 1936 as a school, then went on to house the offices of the British army offivers. After being rezoned by Bala, it became their home-away-from-home. The guest rooms here feature traditional-luxe furniture, fine fabrics, and quiet hues, plus every manner of business mod con. The Bridges, the newly refurbished bright and spacious restaurant mural and some of the most stylish English dishes in Tanah Rata. The glorious garden is also a great place to enjoy afternoon tea.
Perfect cottage like hotel”
Do not expect fans or aircons for this hotel. Cameron highlands is cold at night and this hotel make use of this to offset the normal heat in Malaysia. Without the fan or air conditioners, it was a first few time in my life I experience such quietness. I could hear my own heartbeat at night. The rooms are spacious and clean. The garden and the building itself is a beauty and you can marvel at the plants that seems to creep out of every crevice of the building. The owner of the hotel is also an expert in nearby hiking trails and activities, and he is more than willing to share his experience. The only downside (which is actually an upside as well) of this place is that the location, despite being beside the main road, is actually quite hidden. A new signboard pointing out the location would be awesome for first timers. (And no, googling the location will not help).
Lovely chalet in picturesque Cameron Highlands”
bala's chalet is located in a quiet corner of tanah ratah...close to the tanah ratah market (they have a shuttle service) and brinchang town (the town closer to the beautiful batu brinchang). the wonderful english cottage-styled ambience set in the picturesque cameron highlands makes you want to leave everything and sit back with a cuppa and scones..admiring the clouds rolling over the hills!!! we were there for only one night but have already made up our minds to come back for a longer stay next time we are in malaysia!!!
Confuse a bit with name of this place”
Local taxi know this place as name Bala's chalet. Tanah rata have Planters hotel (Near bus terminal) And one of local taxi not know Planter country hotel. I try to go there with google map. It's bring me to location of Bala' Chalet (Not surethe name was change or not). The guide sign at main road is Bala's chalet on Planter country hotel (Update 5 Dec 2016).
We love it here! Great staff & location!”
The staff was incredibly accommodating and helpful. They helped us with navigating, lifts and all our travel questions. We absolutely loved our stay and hope to return. Our only comments would be the sheets could have been cleaner (we found hair in them), and we werent sure if breakfast was provided and it was never really explained properly although we assumed the toast/coffee/tea was free of charge. Mr. Nathan is an incredible host and cook, Carol and Yoda were also extremely helpful. Thank you! Also, best scones in Cameron Highlands!
Planters Country Hotel - Gives you the real feel of the Cameron Highlands. ”
The hotel is just like an English cottage set in wonderful gardens where you can relax, have breakfast or enjoy the best cream tea we had. Staff were helpful and friendly. Evening meal by the open fire was a joy. The location is perfect in between both towns. If you want a true colonial style place with the character of Cameron Highlands stay here!
Delightful setting, quiet, excellant service”
Although we arrived an hour before normal check-in time of 12 noon, our room was ready and clean. The gardens surrounding to all the chalets and the main property are remarkable for the variety of colourful tropical plants.Steep steps in most areas could be problematic for elderly less agile guests but add to the highland charm of the property. Delightful furnishings and comfortable general lounge area. Highly recommended.
Location: Located halfway between Brinchang and Tanah Rata, the location is very convenient. We paid for a taxicab to bring us around which was about RM15 one way or RM120 for 4 hours. We did not realize the hotel had a shuttle service, and we definitely regret not better utilizing it. Room: The room is slightly small, but just enough space for two people. It has a TV which has hdmi hidden on the back, so we had some difficulty locating it. The toilet was clean but tiny, shower was in good working condition during our stay. However the toilet was unable to flush, and we had to use the bucket instead. IMPORTANT: our toilet door did not have door handles which led to us frequently being locked. Please install door handles on the bathroom. Otherwise, it's a decent room. Restaurant: Bad experience with the western menu, chicken was raw on the inside but dry on the outside. In contrast, the fried rice was excellent. Staff and overall service: Staff are very courteous and helpful.
Dear Mr Victor, Thank You for taking the time to review and update us, in areas which we can improve. We appreciate it. We will work to improve the service to serve you better. Hope to see you again. Regards Mr. Johanan
Great Hotel ”
Best location in Cameron Highlands for a relaxing hotel. It is clean, but there were ants crawling on walls inside the room and a bee entered our room. but thankfully managed to catch it with an empty bottle and released it outside. But i dont really mind it since it is very close to the trees and flowers where i find mesmerizing. The owner, Mr. Bala is such a welcoming owner. He chatted with us for a bit before our breakfast. the breakfast hall is lovely, the scones are amazing especially when it is still hot. The air over there is just amazing. hope this helps others to try.
Old world charm away from the noise of Tanah Rata”
we loved it, the faded charm of the Planters and the lovely gardens made it feel just a bit more special than the other hotels in Tanah Rata. The staff were friendly and nothing seed too much bother. We even extended our stay by an extra two days.
we checked in very late at night and there was someone waiting to receive us even at 11pm. Throughout the stay the staff was very helpful and responsive. They even helped organize a private day tour with a lovely and knowledgeable guide who took us to some of the more hidden gems of Cameron Highlands. Highly recommended!!
