The Waldorf Astoria Caledonian Hotel is a classic traditional hotel with all the amenities one needs. Ideal location to accommodate overseas guests and ‘wow’ them with Scotland and Edinburgh’S charm. .

    Overnight Getaway in Edinburgh”

YAY: very close to edinburgh waverley train station (around 10 mins walking distance) and it's right beside the edinburgh castle | hotel interior is very classy and elegant | breakfast buffet has a great selection of food | we were allowed to check in early | the staff was kind enough to show us the way around and gave us a map | fast and free internet connection in the room BOO: we were locked inside our room and unable to open the door from inside. we called the reception for assistance and they sent an engineer to take a look and have it fixed.

Lovely hotel with history - rooms slightly lagged behind public areas though”

Lovely old building with lots of history - corridors and staircases are filled with memorabilia from the old Princes Street station which apparently burned down in a fire... lots of atmosphere. The rooms are nice but lag just a little bit behind the public areas of the hotel in terms of decor and so on. Bathroom was fine but a bit basic - again it lagged the room a bit given the that room was definitely 5 starrish but the bathroom was slightly 3 starrish... still, nothing wrong with it, just that it was more functional than luxurious. Reasonable gym, although for some reason it was split into two small areas on two different floors instead of being one larger gym - no barbells and plates so it was all dumbbells, pulleys and cardio. There was a small pool but it wasn't very inspiring given it's 12.5 m length so we didn't try it. Hotel bar was gorgeous - grand place worth a visit with a good band playing. Location is great, you can take the airport bus to get here and jsut cross the street to the hotel, lots of restaurants and shops around. Overall a good hotel - got slightly eclipsed in my mind by the Scotsman where we stayed a few days later, but if that's not available, this is a good second choice.

stretched to capacity but didn't break”

    staff, staff, location

We visited over christmas and the hotel was at capacity which lead to a few irritations like not being able to have a coffee because certain areas were booked out and never being able to call the front desk (no answer) but the experience was saved by the professionalism an personal courtesy of the staff always finding a workaround and finding a way to exceed expectations. I personally think the refurbishment stripped a lot of soul out of the building and the rooms were rather generic for a period 5 star but I've no real complaints. Well done and thanks to the whole team for a fantastic stay.

Very central hotel with excellent service ”

    Location

We have spent wonderful time in Edinburgh and the hotel had much to do with it. Service was excellent, staff was smiling with inimitable Scottish restraint and respect towards the guests. The hotel’s location is so good! Everything is close-by: Prince Street, the Edinburgh Castle and the endless range of restaurants and cafés. Well, a “Hop-in and Hop-off Bus” stops just across the street. During our stay the Hotel was decorated for X-Mas was superb. I will prefer to stay for next time.

Great features, nice hot & cold breakfast

Staying at this hotel was so amusing. There was a great view from the window of our room. The service from the front desk until the room service was so great, they were so friendly in serving us. The variety of hot & cold breakfast also was nice.

Great location let down by small room.”

The central location is great, the breakfast was magnificent, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful unfortunately the room was average. The outlook from the window (room 179) was onto a very small courtyard and our only view was of brick walls with pipes not what I was expecting from a 5 star hotel. The reason we booked this hotel was it had car parking, always expensive in a capital city I know, perhaps we did not read the small print but we were extremely disappointed when we went to pay the bill as the charge for car parking was £25 per night. The bathroom for a 5 star hotel was also not what I would expect, it was clean and functional but nothing special, the grouting round the shower could do with renewing. We definetly would not return to this hotel unless there was a guarantee of a better room.

The staff were fantastic the location was perfect. The view was wonderful

At first we were set up in a small no view room with steps to the bathroom. After I told them I can't do the steps in the bathroom. They were able to change us to a room with no steps and a beautiful view. The staff in the peacock alley were fantastic and very friendly. All and all very nice 5 star hotel.

    Good hotel. Tiny noisy rooms”

    Staff and location

Good location. Great staff but noisy and small rooms. We stayed at the Scotsman a few days before and the room was 2.5 times larger for the same cost. The hotel is also not luxurious enough to be called or to carry to Waldorf name - but the people are excellent.

Our stay was first class. Lovely, professional and warm staff coupled with a superbly clean and beautiful interior will certainly make us return to this fantastic hotel. The location is brilliant in terms of access to the best restaurants, bars, designer shops and of course the castle. Highly recommended to all if you require all your boxes ticked!!

    Wonderful!”

The location was perfect for us. The room was very comfortable; we especially appreciated windows that opened for fresh air. The staff was so helpful and we appreciated their advice very much.

My brother and I loved staying at The Caledonian and would recommend it to anyone. The staff was attentive and very helpful. We really liked our room and the amenities offered, especially the very comfortable beds. My brother had been attending Exeter College in Oxford and his room there was pretty basic. He really appreciated The Caledonian bed. The location of The Caledonian is wonderful. It is perfect for exploring Edinburgh. Lots of great restaurants and shopping. I hope to return with my husband in the near future, the best compliment I can give - I want to return!

Location, Staff and the Pompadour restaurant.

We really loved everything about the hotel including location, the restaurant Pompadour and the wonderful staff. The only downside was that the room needed to be renovated, and the hotel is in the process of renovating all of the rooms now.

Everything we hoped for and more”

!-The hotel building was captivating 2-The staff were personal, professional and went out of thier way to take care of us 3-Location location, location!

From the moment we arrived we felt attended to and taken care of. We arrived at 11AM and requested early check-in as we had to catch an early train to St. Andrews. When I told the front desk staff our plan and that we were celebrating our 30th anniversary, she checked us in to an upgraded room with a spectacular view of the castle. All of the staff we met from the concierge (directions) to the doormen("Would you like an umbrella"), bar wait staff (we chatted throughout our meal) and front desk staff (anything we needed)were all friendly and helpful. We will always stay at the Caledonian and will recommend it to our friends. Dr. Tom from Pittsburgh, PA USA
