The Cliff Guest House
An interesting and adventurous stay”
A unique place with a lot of atmosphere and history. Windy and cold while we were there (Mid February). Must be extra nice and comfortable in the warmer season when it is too hot elsewhere. An exotic place well worth visiting! Tove from Norway
Best place to stay in Oman”
We loved or stay at the Cliff House. The location is breathtaking - as the name suggests, the houses that make up an old village are built into the cliff in the middle of wonderful mountain surroundings. Muhammed is a fantastic host, very friendly and communicative and one can feel that he puts his heart and soul into the guest house. His sister cooked some delicious food for us that we enjoyed in great company. We wish we could have stayed longer than one night!
Great location and wonderful host. It is not easy to get to this place (gravel road + hike) but it's definitely worth the effort. Wonderful view and great experience. And dedicated to the villagers.
very special place in the mountains”
we decided to come here as the pictures looked great, and they had one night free, we would have stayed for two. the place is just amazing if you are looking for peace, cooler temperatures (it was 22 at night, 28 during the day, while it was 45 in Dubai). we arrived around 1pm from Mizfah and settled on the terrace, making a cup of coffee, and eating some dates, there were plenty of fresh fruits as well. the owner arrived and took us along to see the lamb they had cooked for 24h buried in the ground, we also got a plenty of it to eat right now ... being vegetarian was not an option. we just relaxed until they brought us dinner in little boxes, we enjoyed the silence and the stars before going to bed. next morning Mohamed took us for a few hours hiking to the other houses in the valley. back we took a shower and left back to Dubai .... an amazing place to stay for a couple of nights, hike, enjoy the silence, the solitude, and the Omani generosity. I booked this place because I wanted to get a local experience of Oman...however I felt more like a touristic trap. Access to the place is very dangerous, you need to hike for 15 minutes on unstable rocks, the rooms are very basic (which I was fine with) and the food was scarce and tasteless. There isn't much to do unless you (over) pay the owner (who speaks poor English) to bring you for a mediocre hike.. Once is dark ( 6pm) you eat and go to sleep! There is no entertainment and of course no internet! I won't recommend it.
Welcome ... I can clarify some things for you ... The place is a heritage and a basis for recreation and taking the old experience in life and is shown on the site that the access to it needs a car SUV and there is a dirt road by 4 km .... Thank you On your ...
amazing place: pay attention as you reserve”
This is a completely unique place. You get to see and experience life in a real Omani village in the Jebel Akhdar area, in an old house built of stone and stucco. You should not miss this. Cautions are as follows: there is a dirt road at present (Dec. 2017) for the last 4 or so km. This is seriously only good with a 4wheel drive auto. You will get to the bottom of that road, and then hike for about 15 minutes to the actual house. When they ask how many are coming, it's because they are going to hike that same distance and bring you dinner. I mistakenly said 2, even though I was just 1, which made extra work. You need to be in touch with them and come roughly as agreed, so they can escort you to the village. I didn't, and they were super nice, but I imagine it gave them a headache. All of this is part of the charm, actually. You need to be in decent shape and not terrified of heights, or, as the name suggests, cliffs. Highly recommend: you will not regret it at all!
Experience hetitage village in superb mountain hideaway”
The guesthouse offers basic rooms but the setting is very special so you don't bother doing your own dishes after dinner. Great location for hiking. Friendly family owned business
Amazing place in the middle of nowhere”
Cliff is an amazing old village in the middle of nowhere in the mountains. This for sure was a very special place to spend a night. The rooms were clean. Food was very good and the hosts are very friendly.
Amazing Location- Thats out of your Books”
You will need to be a slightly trained driver with a slightly capable 4wd to reach the location. Best to reach an hour before it turns dark as you will have to perform a minor hike towards the house while carrying your baggage with you. So travel light. The experience at the guest house is amazing and make sure you carry some mosquito repellents if you plan on star gazing towards late night. Dinner and Breakfast is served and quite humble. On check out you will have to carry out your luggage along with all the trash to dump them in the allocated garbage on the other side of the mountain. I Its some work but you will definitely leave the place with memories and experiences that wont be forgotten.
This is a very special place and it was an absolute privilege to be able to experience a glimpse of Omani village life in this way. Friendly, unique and will give us lasting, fond memories.
Very nice "get away" hidden between mountains. We really enjoyed the quiet for 1 night. The owner is very friendly but there's a tendency of taking things a little too easy. Examples: 1. on arrival, we were asked to pay the outstanding amount although we had prepaid the whole stay via agoda already and although the situation was resolved the next morning I was initially confused. 2. Paying $140.- for 1 night makes you expect to receive hotel treatment but we were asked to take the trash to the other side of the valley when we left the next morning. Not that this was a problem, but when asking this rate, you simply don't ask your guests to do chores. Can recommend the place for an overnight as part of an Oman experience.
nice location but pricey”
Unique experience but for that price, service could improve. After check-in, no one was available. We were not given any tour around. It is very basic and we were asked to wash our dish after meal, which for that price should not be the case. You pay the view and the scenery but do not expect high service or experience with locals as they are hidden... Last but not least, it worth emphasizing you need a 4WD to access!
Amazing experience. So beautiful and truly unique”
Signage to find place could be improved. Host is super friendly and helpful. Such an adventure and a great place to get away from it all.
An Extraordinary trip, which you hard to find in other place”
This is a small village build on the cliffs, We were stay at Cliff guest house one night with our son, and the night only my family on the cliff, no other guests, we really felt that out of our world, only the nature and harmony surrounding us. The house are well maintain, and very clean, old village tour is just so special and amazing. Thank you Mahdi and rest of your team, to contribute in this precious, heritage place, so that we have the chance to stay on it. Thank you Mohammad and his big family, for wisdom of your ancestors, your well maintainance in this village, and hospitality, invited us to join your Eid celebration, this is an unforgettable trip, we will never forget it. For people with young children and interested in this guest house, please bear in mind, there is up and down hiking activities to the house and visiting the village. The guest house is build on the cliff, no strong fence for protection, some area even without fence, children must always behaved and under adults' watch at all time. That's why the guest house only accepted children above 12. We wrote an email to Mahdi to ask his permission before we booked the house, and my son was very cooperated, with his behalved and our attention, he enjoyed and had a great trip as his 8 years-old birthday.
Great rustic experience”
Had a great experience at the Cliff House. This is definitely a remote get-away and quite rustic, but that is exactly as advertised and what I was looking for. Mohammed is a gracious host. Would recommend to anyone looking for a unique and off-the-grid experience.
