A lovely stay”

Stayed overnight at the weekend with my partner in a double room. Friendly staff, particularly Francesca on the desk who couldn't have been more helpful. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable and a lovely hot power shower. Would definitely stay here again. A big thumbs up to the Crown Hotel :)

amazing staff, Leon, Francesca in specific ...old, dated but hotel is undergoing refurbushing ”

the web site hosting this hotel need to be more specific on whether you are in main hotel or "the lodge" i have stayed in both but there is a difference in the accomodations both are dated some utilities are not grt functioning....but there is a price difference as well ...my only reason for revisiting is prime location to the amenities that i needed to be close to, and there are not too many hotels in this area....the price point for the location is grt but the rooms themselves really need a refurbish but having said this the main hotel is historical, the lodge is an add on, so you really need to keep that in mind i really enjoyed the staff as mentioned above and they did everything in their power to make it a good stay, having given this hotel a mixed review i would stay again if i needed to be in the heart of things and would recommend it

Value for money”

Clean rooms, staff and price

There was an initial blip in the booking as i did it from Agoda, but the crown hotel had no records. However, this was sorted out well and quickly by the receptionist in a professional manner. The room was cozy clean and comfortable with nice shower and bath facilities. For £33 a night it was a bargain, the only down side is if wifi is available in the rooms and not only to the ground floor.

Cheap Hotel in Stone”

Location, Friendly Staff, and Pub

Definately not a 5 star resort, but you know that when your paying for it. back door leads directly into the main strip of stone and has the basics ie. pubs, small shopping, and food. Room was a bit small but once again for the price who expects more.

COLD NIGHT - WARM WELCOME”

Arrived at 0145 on a very cold and snowy night after a horrendous journey. Very short stopover on our way to a family funeral in Wales. Night porter was friendly and welcoming. Hotel was warm, as was our accomodation. Room was basic but adequate. Would not want an extended stay here but for our purposes it was absolutely fine. Friendly and concerned Receptionist wishes us a safe onward journey. Would certainly use this hotel again.

Mixed feelings about this hotel”

Good location to stay, central to the town. Rooms basic and fairly clean. First problem encountered, on arrival when our relatives and friend tried to check in on a booking made 3 months earlier. They were told that Booking.com had cancelled the rooms and they would have to be relocated to a sister hotel 6/7 miles away. I was lucky that I had printed my confirmation as proof. Another 20 people were told the same story which resulted in the manager offering an upgraded room for an extra £10 per person, per night which included breakfast. There really was no choice as everywhere else was fully booked. The room had no mattress protectors on the grubby, uncomfortable bed.Only 1 pillow had a pillowcase but no protectors. The shower was tiny, it felt like you were in a cupboard. No hair dryer. Breakfast was very slow, it took an hour to be served. We cancelled the following mornings breakfast but had no refund. The bar had no beer on tap apart from 1 which was slow pouring and frothy.Nice staff

Bedroom review”

When I booked my room, the booking title was for a double bed, once I'd booked it I had a confirmation telling me I had a twin room. As it was non refundable I had to push the twin bed together. Other than that small problem the staff were friendly, the location was nice although the front door banged when it was used and the air on made a bad noise even when it wasn't being used. I'd recommend this hotel as a one night stay if your going out into stone

Good location, tatty and rather grubby”

Everywhere in this, once lovely old building, is tired, grubby and in need of tlc. The staff were very friendly but the beds hard, corridors grubby, carpets stained, bathroom in need of renovation a d a really good clean. On our arrival the bar had very little stock and the barman was actually unable to pour sufficient from a bottle of spirits to make a double. There was no suggestion there may be more stock elsewhere. Ignore any photos, the rooms do not look anything like them.

Its convenient and comfortable for our needs”

The TVs need to be updated. The decor is a little tatty. We stayed for 3 nights as a couple and had been left 1 hand towel for the 3 nights. A little disappointed that when we checked out we weren't asked about our stay by staff. We would stay again but only as its central to our families that we visit and it is cheap for a town centre hotel.

Would book again but not through Agoda”

Although Agoda were a bit cheaper than others they didn't send any confirmation of my booking or reply to the emails I sent then asking for confirmation. I would rather pay a couple of pounds more and not have the worry of not knowing whether my booking had gone through to the hotel. In the end I phoned the hotel myself to get confirmation of the booking.

No complaints, rooms were a bit tired but clean and comfortable enough. Good night's sleep, no problem with noise, and having plenty of free parking right in the town centre is very convenient. Only thing that seemed lacking was no soap in the bathroom.

In need of a big renovation ”

This is a nice looking hotel (from the outside) in a fantastic location. Pubs, restaurants, supermarket all on the door step...but my god it needs some money spent on it. It’s like stepping back in time when you walk in and the rooms can’t have been touched in 20 years. Getting a hot shower in some of the rooms is akin to appearing on the Krypton Factor and the heating was on full blast, with no way of switching it off, in July!!! In fairness to the hotel, I have paid more for a sauna in the past. The one thing I can’t fault is the staff, they do the hotel proud, even a hotel as desperate for a refresh as this one.

Crown Hotel Stone”

I was very disappointed with my stay in the lodge part of the stone crown hotel, the decor and facilities within the room were dated and of poor quality it is in desperate need of refurbishment, until this is done I would advise people not to book the lodge, the pictures on the web site do not bear any resemblance to what is really there. The next night I stayed in a deluxe room in the main part of the hotel which was only slightly better, there were damp spots on the wall and ceiling and the furniture was still of poor quality in desperate need of an upgrade the room was over the Mexican restaurant which had loud music playing till midnight. Breakfast was full English but of poor quality with watered down orange juice, a better breakfast can be had in a nearby supermarket. I will not be staying here again unless it has been updated. Other guests had similar experiences poor quality and one with no hot water in the sink.

stop over”

location---car parking ---being a pub.

I stayed on the ground floor in the annexe-- next to the front door-- which "banged" every time someone used it. There was little ventilation to the room ( NO A/C ) and the bathroom had cracked wall tiling and was tiny. The shower was pathetic in both volume and force and the cubicle size cramped.. The windows opened partially but the room faced a main road and so was noisy from road traffic and also people using the car park itself. All in all I would say it just about makes a 3 * rating and overall needs re-furbishing badly to update it. It was handy for the High street of Stone but was surprisingly quiet in the bar area at night and so appears to be struggling to make a name for itself.....in fact was akin to being on the moon-- NO atmosphere!

Above average”

Arrived to be told there was no evidence of our booking (booked through agoda). Not what you want to deal with when you've had a few drinks at a wedding. Told the guy we had paid for a deluxe room.. he said yes deluxe just means you're in the hotel instead of across the road. Room not deluxe at all. Bed and pillows hard. I am not a fussy person but this was bad service. Breakfast was lovely and so was the waitress. Only perk was that we didn't pay for breakfast due to the hotel having no clue about what we'd actually paid for!

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in”

This hotel should be shut down! The room was very basic which would have been acceptable had it been clean and fit for purpose. The shower was nothing more than a trickle. Three squares of toilet roll in one of our rooms. Tea and coffee making facility with no teaspoon or milk? Carpets were filthy and rooms thick with dust. Wardrobe with one hanger? We were attending a family wedding and unable to hang out outfits. The rooms were nothing like the images shown on the website. When we asked if there was the option to upgrade we were informed we had paid the cheapest price of any guest staying in hotel st the time. Offered a deep clean of the room however the staff were finishing for the day and we were trying to get ready for the wedding, as a result no room service during the 2 night stay. All together probably the worst hotel experience I have ever had mad only acceptable by the fact we were in a group attending a happy occasion. Do not book this hotel!

Not to be recommended ”

Whilst a budget hotel you would not expect to be given a bed where you can feel all the springs ... so uncomfortable. The mattress was not even cushioned with a mattress safer . There was the mattress and then the sheet ... have not seen this before in a hotel ... even more surprising when you can feel the springs . The radiator did not work and I had to sit with my coat on until a heater was brought in . The remote for the TV did not work and one of the reading lights also did not work .The shower had mould in it and the toiletries was only soap. The decoration was dated but could put up with this ,it was all the rest of it . We got up at 5 am as so uncomfortable and left . The staff are the only asset so suggest the owners need to treat them well as the rest of the place is neglected and there is a distinct lack of care from the owners . I am not a fussy person but this was really poor .
