Great experience to nature!”
This resort is well-maintained. Opened in 2018, The Culvert lies on a stretch of secluded beach right next to one of Sarawak’s most iconic landmarks – Mount Santubong. Before make the booking, as usual I will read some reviews from previous guests. The negative reviews are came from guests who are staying in Standard room. Because the room is small where the toilet & bathroom are also inside the culvert. So u have to crawl on the bed to get to toilet. So, this is definitely not a good choice. So, I choose to stay in Suite room. Just top up a little bit more to get a good experience staying inside the culvert. They have 10 suite rooms. The best room with great view is King Suite. Its located right in front of the sunset deck. Make sure u stay in this room type to avoid disappointment. Toilet and bathroom are separated but en-suite. They have 2 small swimming pool, Clean beach, library and nice restaurant. Some of the facilities are not operated maybe because of the MCO.

A great hideaway for relaxing and recharging”
We came to the Culvert for a short transit one-night stay and used it as our base while in Kuching. We were originally told it is far away from the city and would be inconvenient to use as a base. However, we didn’t think it was an inconvinience at all. We spent the day visiting the Cultural Centre that is just 5 minutes away by car and then visited the city at night (which is better given the nicer views with the lighting effects). The Culvert is really basic so visitors must not compare it to a normal hotel. It is more like glamping venue but little more equipped. The normal room has a bed that is immediately by the door. Small bags can be put under the bed while larger ones may have to be put at the small platform in between the toilet and the bed. Yes, there is ensuite toilet, which is great, albeit the small size. So some degree of basic comfort and privacy are met. The breakfast was awesome and delicious. We thought it was very properly prepared and no corners were cut!

Nature lover will definitely love it!”
Perfect location, surrounding. You can enjoy beach and forest at the same time. The view of sunrise n sunset is stunning! The decoration is beautiful where instagrammers will love it. But the room is quite pack will little space to keep ur belongings. Make sure to bring mosquito repellent if u dont like to be bite by one. At night will have more mosquitoes than daytime. Suitable for escaping from the city but u still enjoying good internet as it is only 20minutes away from the city. A lot of seafood restaurant nearby and u can also go to kampung buntal to enjoy delicious seafood which is just 10minutes drive. U can also go to damai beach which is so near to the culvert. There is also dinner being served up until 9pm everyday.

Glamping Experience with Resort Facilities”
The culvert is truely a unique experience. Though the place is out of town but its worth the trip and to spend a few relaxing days there. Everything is exactly like the pictures and it didn’t feel claustrophobic sleeping in a culvert and felt cozy. The only downside is when its raining and there’s no shelter at all to your room. So you would have to to a helter skelter rush into the room with the umbrella to make sure the rain doesnt get in and wet the sheets. Even when it isnt raining we rush to close the doors too for fear of insects joining us. Definitely arm yourself with an insect repellent lotion while there and treat it as a camping experience and you would be pleasantly surprise. The beach was perfect (though small) but had a perfect view of the sunset. Service was amazing.. upon hearing that we would be taking an early flight in the morning they offered to book an cab for us and made sandwiches for us to go. We felt right at home with the homely treatment.

Good stay, awesome view. However, read tips below;”
✅Stayed in king suite. Thus not as packed as other room. Good for short stay away from city. Awesome view overlooking the beaches & Mt Santubong. Love the infinity pool. Breakfast is okay only, but can be improved. Attentive staff. Bed was comfy. Dont worry room doesnt have musty smell even tho you’re sleeping in a grebat. 🤣 Tips: Room is pretty packed so avoid bringing bulky bag. No wardrobe to hang clothes. Only 1 hook inside our culvert room. Surau provided for Muslim guest. Might be not convenient for elderly as there are too much step & staircase.

Close to nature but limited space”
I really enjoy my stay at here. It offer you calmness and positive vibe. The colour decoration arrangement was so creative catchy and attractive. The design it unique that is why the name is “the culvert”. The place was so good for photo taking and it is clean comfortable and everything os good. But the space was limited ; couples or duo traveller might find it comfortable to stay here.. but for married couple with two to three kids, maybe its not so comfortable for them. As once u enter the room, u need to step on the bed and after the bed ,will be a bathroom. So not much movement inside. Anyway, I love the design and view over there. Good job culvert! (:

Friendly staff and peaceful stay”
The Culvert is suitable for a couple but my suggestion is to book the suite room as it has extra space instead of the regular standard queen room, which is small. My favorite area is the sunset deck which I found the very interesting and cozy area. The swimming pool is small, but they are constructing another pool, which is much bigger than the previous. There is one staff name Eko, from Japan is friendly and very helpful.. not to forget Memey and Celine too. And overall, this is a place's worth to stay. Thank You The Culvert.

A retreat from the city”
Spend a night there during Chinese New Year. The size of the culvert was small, good enough for two adults to stay there. This resort is good for couples but not recommended for big families with kids. Pros : As compared to other resorts around Kuching it is considered as a very peaceful place with not much noises in the morning or night. The place is clean. The food is good, big portion about RM20-30 per dish. (love the carbonara) A good place for working people to rest and retreat from the city. Love the concept of using the culvert (reminds me of The Hobbit) Cons : Limited facilities Small pools Small beach The air ventilation in the toilet is really bad.

Exceptional”
it’s a very young and chic place to begin with cause it’s modern but it didn’t run away from the nature side of things which is great. although, Culvert could actually consider tinting the room windows instead of making it see through because i’d like to have sunlight while enjoying the view from my room. other than that, food was decent, but still have room for improvements. if you want space, go for the deluxe but superior is still fine with me. i’d like to go again only if they have the windows tinted and can’t be seen from outside for privacy matters. thanks again

Boutique hotel”
THe culvert hotel concept is unique. However, we found that the size od culvert is a way bit small. It will be good if they upgrade the room size. Worth to have a tried to stay at the Culvert hotel. breakfast selection is limited.

One night stay and that's it. ”
Deluxe Queen room is suitable for solo traveler. More than that, not recommended. The Culvert staffs are very well trained. Amazing service and super fast check in/out. Food is amazingly delicious. Recommended for a short weekend gateway. Recommended if you love outdoors view as the room is quite small. Would come back just to unwind from hustle bustle of the city. Con: MOSQUITOES/insects. Please PLEASE bring your own repellent.

Deposit is RM200”
The culvert/staffs should have stated the deposit is RM200 beforehand. People from town are all coming for a nice relaxing staycation close to nature, you can’t expect we bring hundreds of cash in the wallet. Not to mention , they didn’t accept DEBIT card. You’ve asked the visitors to pay RM200 by cash or by credit, but do not accept debit, when there’s clearly a sign on the receptionist desk that they accept CREDIT,DEBIT & AMERICAN EXPRESS. So piece of advice here, get ready ur cash! And beside that, the staffs should heat up the breakfast so that It won’t be cold for those guests that come late for the breakfast & variety of food are not much. Overall, it was an amazing stay. Everything is clean & nice.

Customer Service”
My goodness, i don’t even know where to begin. Felt like i was not even welcomed there. Both receptionists, on my checkin days (29/9) were all no smile and stressful. Idk if management wise you guys were having internal problems or they have a problem of their own, idk. But guys, seriously, you’re the frontliners. At the very least, smile pleasantly, talk and act like you really appreciate people coming to your hotel and not like “ah, when will this day be over” might as well take a good rest at home and not show up to work right? I’m actively involved in the industry myself so i really know how big was the impact in welcoming. It’s gonna be my first impression towards what I can expect for my whole stay. Oh don’t let me start again on the ladies. Called the receptionist to ask for an iron. And the one who picked up told us to collect it from the front. Upon arriving i stumbled into this one kind gentleman and he told me that i can actually request the housekeeping to send it to the room. And the receptionists wasn’t showing any guilt. The very least, give me right information. Wasn’t being demanding here trust me, but bad customer service doesn’t make the stay pleasant. Overall, we were happy on our staycation, the food was nice, the room was clean and tha facilities were tip top, except, really, the two ladies in front. Try to love your job a little. Thanks Culvert!

Good value for money”
Definitely one of the place everyone should try, but it’s not suitable for family with kids to go here. A place that i feel like i dont want to go home! Thumbs up the culvert!

Unique experience in Santubong!”
Most unique travel experience in Santubong area. Room is small, but cozy. Paid extra for the king suite which comes with a large attached bathroom with tub. Major downside is that the rooms can be quite hot during a sunny day and takes a while to cool down at night. The beach front is secluded and accessible from the property. Two small pools (shaded by trees) are available for guests to take a dip, lounge and relax on a hot day. Overall, a very nice hotel, unique experience. Will come to visit again.

Pleasant Stay for A Short-Trip”
Open and natural concept of bathroom. My bathtub full of flies during night fall till next morning. Suites room still look small due to structure limitation. Please choose suites if you afford for it. The room should ready with more hooks for clothes and etc, long table-top for guest to put their personal belongings. The restaurant's food is super nice, although is not 5-star kitchen, the chef serve well in plate. The breakfast is not okay to me, all carbo, no meat at all, first-day only few small pieces of fried chickens, the 2nd-day totally same and no meat at all. The gym equipment and swing chairs place at open-air space. The gym equipment is dustry, and only 2 equipments. The swing chairs cushion is super wet. It absords rain-water and hardly dry well. It looks dirty to me. Hopefully the Culvert will improve on the above comments. It is worth to have a stay with this creative structure of hotel.

Excellent ”
Defintely recommended for couple. This place is so beautiful and romantic. We stay in the suite cw bathtub, that is really good and relax. Really appreciate The Culvert have done a swan towel cw fresh flowers in room due to our anniversary celebration! There alot of mosquito and bugs in night so I think The curlvert should prepared the mosquito repellent for guest. I and my husband have drive to Mydin to purchase ourself because the resort selling price are not unreasonable. Others than that, all is perfect..

Big is chill”
If u r trying this type of stay experience, choose the suite room. Yes, price wise is higher than deluxe queen, but u will get better space and way more comfortable. Surrounding wise is nice, beach, forest and can see santubong mountain. Swimming pool dun give too high hope, is not big if there are lots ppl there & very heavy chlorine smell, but there are 2 pool. Bring mosquito coil or repellent if you attract mosquito, u will need it. Also, be prepare of sand flies at the beach. Can see the sunset.
