A good class resort”
A good class resort, with a good blend with nature. A natural and relaxing environment for a good break from the city. Very friendly and attentive staff. Much appreciate to make us feel welcome. However, some small glitches - room maintenance to take note - e.g. 206 bath tub mixer knob is detached. 119 balcony wooden panel ring handles can be detached easily.
Nature & Luxury”
The Nature Centre helmed by Irshad Mobarak and the on-site guided nature walks were the main draw for us. Those experiences and the animals, birds and reptiles we saw in the forests and mangroves around The Datai led by Mr Mobarak and his fabulous team of guides exceeded our expectations. In the process too, we discovered again the beauty of The Datai property and its surroundings. The personal service of its people made us feel right at home and the food in all the restaurants was excellent as well. Our 6 days at The Datai flew by all too quickly!
Wonderful stay, already planning to return! ”
I've posted another anonymous review shortly after the trip. It was a really wonderful stay. The staff were attentive and friendly, absolutely helpful. They made our stay really warm. They would go out of their way to pay attention to our needs even before we asked. They always made sure that we felt like nothing was a trouble to them. The room was really awesome. The toilet was mind blowingly comfortable and in fact hangout-worthy. The private beach access and the complimentary water activities were really great too. I will definitely be back, many times more!
Gorgeous secluded location”
One of the most beautiful locations I have ever stayed in. Langkawi as a beach destination is already worth it but the beautiful rainforest surrounding The Datai makes it that much more special. You really are in the middle of a jungle and no matter where you are in the resort, the views are impressive. The food (especially at the Thai) is excellent, the staff is always helpful with any requests. The day before our flight we got back to the room to see our boarding passes already printed and ready to go. Its the little things the Datai does exceptionally well and sets it apart from anywhere else we've stayed in Langkawi.
The Datai has a unique location and is truly a five star resort in world class. However the ventilation system failed completely in my room to the extent that I experienced a literal shower during the night due to condensation forming in the ceiling. Apparently a normal problem it seemed. However the rooms will be renovated completely including the ventilation system from September 2017. Apart from that and the fact that it took the staff almost an hour from arrival to getting the luggage to my room, it was all perfect.
Luxury combined with impeccable staff!”
What an amazing honeymoon experience right from the start! My wife and I certainly didn't expect the pickup driver to take us directly to the doorstep of our beautiful beach villa to check-in in the comfort of our living room. Our beach villa was beautifully designed and simply luxurious. Each restaurant at the resort (especially The Pavillion) served some of the most delicious dishes we have ever eaten and we especially enjoyed dining by the sea under the full moon. I could go on and on about how wonderful the resort is and how relaxing it is to be so close with nature in the jungle, but in all honesty the key feature that made our stay truly special was the hotel staff- everyone (and I mean everyone) consistently treated us like royalty. I am so impressed with them, they are the real stars of the resort because I have stayed in many wonderful resorts and hotels only to be let down by its rude/incompetent staff. This is not the case in The Datai - both the resort and the staff were excellent! Some minor feedback - eventhough we hardly used it, the entertainment system in the villa could be improved (no music files in the preloaded USB drive and no bedroom USB drive). Another minor feedback was our dining experience at The Gulai House- our main course took quite some time (at least half an hour) to arrive after our starters. Again, this was minor because we were taking our time to enjoy the whole dining experience, but it may not be ideal for guests to wait that long in between meals. All in all, it was a truly memorable experience at The Datai and we were so reluctant to leave- perhaps we shall return on our Anniversary! If I could, I would rate the overall experience a 6 out of 5!
Comfortable place in nature”
Beautiful place, quite a distance from the airport and town though. Get a hire car if travelling so its easier to get around. Service was excellent but the beach wasn't very nice. Lots of rubbish in the water and jellyfish. Much better beaches to visit. Beautiful place but kind of expected a bit more for the price. Next time we'll stay somewhere a bit more accessible.
Beautiful place with excellent service. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Ideal for couples that want some exclusivity. The resort beach wasn't that nice however (rubbish in the water and jellyfish) so I suggest travelling to other beaches if you want to swim. Be prepared for a long drive to the resort. It's really nestled in the forest at the opposite end of the island to everything else. No shops nearby so buy whatever you need on the way. Next time we would stay somewhere a bit more easily accessible.
Beach and rainforest getaway”
We stayed for 4 nights end May in a room beside the main lobby area. Highly recommend the Datai for a relaxing stay. We never found ourselves bored given the choice of activities - spa, kayaking/snorkelling, nature tours, chilling by the pool or on the beach, or enjoying the room. Being close to the beach and the rainforest meant we got the best of both worlds. The complimentary morning +evening nature tours is a must-do and an eye opener to what nature has to offer. Service is fantastic. The property is well maintained considering its age and there is some ongoing maintenance but the wing we stayed in was relatively unaffected. Note that it will undergo renovations next year so do check before going. Food is generally pretty good but do budget for the fact that there is no food nearby - we spent about SGD 100-125 a day for 2 for lunch and dinner. Bring snacks if you will be peckish unless you want to use the minibar.
The Datai Langkawi is one of the best hotels I've stayed in the staff was very friendly and the location of the hotel is super, it has all the facilities and if not they will try their best o fulfill that wish.
Relaxing resort ”
Overall very good ! Not much activies there ! But it is ok for a short holiday! What a great break for doing nothing ! But it will be great if have some more sport activies ! Apart from sailing and Kayaking ! We have a short walked to the forest ! Apart from the just reading at the beach and body massage at the last day !
Well maintained, beautiful rooms and restaurants Make sure you wear insect repellent and keep your doors and windows closed as it's in a natural setting. Lovely calibre of guests Staff really look after you well and warmly
Fantastic.. The thai culinary food at the Datai Pavilion was excellent.. The service rendered by the staff was also top notched. The only comment i had was that the room had a certain musty smell. Perhaps the hotel management would like to look into that.
Our stay is Datai was one of the best vacation we ever had. The service was first class and the beach as well as the place were very clean despite being in a untouched forest setting. The rooms were spacious and place is very well maintained. The only issue is that the food prices were exorbitant and being located far away from the city, residents would have no choice but to dine in the resort.
Excellent and friendly staff service”
It was most enjoyable and relaxing weekend away from the hectic city. The staff continue to be friendly and excellent in service. Many have been there for years and still remember returning guests like me who haven't visited the property for several years. The room is also well equipped and very comfortable. Perhaps the only thing that needs some attention is the old jacuzzi pool in the gym which needs to be given a fresh touch or new coating. The Internet access in the villa also breaks intermittently but otherwise, it is adequate. Overall it was a delightful stay and my friends who're first-time guests had thoroughly enjoyed their stay.
Top 5 stars hotel”
the datai is located exactly in the middle of rainforest. reptiles and monkeys can be seen easily at the hotel. the hotel is abit far from the beach. we stayed in a deluxe room at the main building while all the villas are spread all around the rain forest. room is big and the bed is comfortable and soft enough. some items in the mini bar are free. there are 2 vanity tops in the bathroom with a seperate area for w/c and bathtub. rain shower pressure is not strong enough though. adult pool is very quite and i would prefer the smaller family pool which is just sits next to the beach. the beach club serve very delicious grilled fish. buffet breakfast is just average for the rook rate paid.
Wonderful trip into the green jungle”
It was a really relaxing stay in a wonderful resort inmid lush greenery. The jungle nearly extended into the rooms which were cosy and very comfortable. The dinner at the Thai restaurant was great and the spa experience not want to be missed. A highlight was also the very friendly service at any place in tehe hotel!
6 Star Hotel”
The Datai is all the way at the end of a long (and I mean long) road right smack in a rain forest. So really, rent a car and stock up on snacks before you check in because the dining prices are jaw dropping. An american buffet breakfast cost pax (exclusive of svc charge and tax). However, one gets to help oneself to some of the juices and soft drinks in the mini bar which are cmoplimentary, and one gets Molton Brown toiletries in the bathroom. Service is prompt, staff are knowledgeable, friendly and speak good English. Check in is also smooth - one is ushered to the lounge area and offered wet towels and drinks while the check in procedure is handled by the staff at a seperate area. There are 2 swimming pools - one adults only but there is nothing special about the adults only pool and the family pool - no slides or anything for the kids and no jacuzzi in both pools).
The Datai Resort”
The setting of the hotel smack in the middle of an ancient rainforest without any sacrifice of luxurious comfort or disruption of the environment is a rare achievement. Birds and animals of many kinds are everywhere, obviously unafraid of people. While many of the activities on offer require short trips to other parts of the island this is not really inconvenient as the island is not large.
We have just stayed at the Datai for the 3rd time. It provides an amazing combination of rainforest, beach and pool areas. It always seems so peaceful even when the hotel is full. There are wonderful double rooms and also villas hidden away in the forest...some have their own pools. You can get away from people completely or be amongst them. The best 5 star resort we have stayed at in Malaysia...and we have stayed at the top 6 on both coasts.
