“A nice weekend stay… marred by lack of pre-arrival comms response, a big wedding, and certain facilities being closed/ temporary”
I stayed here a good 22 years ago and was happy to be back. The pluses: 1) the maintenance and cleanliness for a 28 year old hotel is really outstanding. Staff members were always cleaning, repairing, fixing things. It’s a hotel with a timeless feel… it’s like Aman without the price tag. 2) amazing service from the restaurant crew. Super friendly and accommodating. They remember your preferences by day two. 3) the greenery and quiet feel of this location is quite unbeatable. I was assigned an entry level room that felt really private. No one looking in due to the lush greenery outside. Things you need to know 1) when there are big events or weddings, the small hotel can feel very overrun with the restaurants and facilities being out of service or fully bought over. I tried contacting to find out if there might be events in house during my intended stay dates and never received a response. The second night of my stay coincided with the eve of a large wedding… event vendors were setting up at the courtyard below my room and hammering things from 3am - 6am. As the main restaurant was fully booked for the wedding, breakfast was makeshift in one of the penthouse suites. The set up was really odd with ballroom chairs and very much a canteen style vibe. It was really sub-par. 2) the facilities fell short of the hotel’s otherwise immaculate reputation. The gym was in a makeshift location that could be better set up and maintained, and access was either via a side door or from a back of house tattered and torn lift. The rooftop pool that’s part of Bimasena was badly maintained with lots of litter, old torn rags lining the pools, and very dirty restrooms that reeked of cigarette smoke. 3) front desk service felt very formal and insincere. And it’s a missed opportunity as the first impression on arrival is where you want to leave a mark. Thankfully the restaurant staff more than made up for it.
