"The staff was helpful and efficient, in particular a young boy who had taken good care of his clients, including setting up comfortable futon for us."

Great Traditional Japanese experience at affordable price and wonderful staff!!”
We had a great stay at Edo Sakura! We arrived after midnight and the host was still very gracious and helped us get settled into our room. All throughout our stay the staff were all very warm, sincerely helpful people and they all spoke good English as well as Japanese. We loved the traditional futons to sleep on and the public bath which could be reserved for a private session, was a thoughtful touch. The room was very clean with traditional tatami and a nice scroll of Mount Fuji and a modern bathroom and shower. The location was a little further from Shibuya/Shinjuku area, but we found many nice things nearby like Asakusa, Ginza, Nippori, Ueno and having the train just a few blocks away really helped and we managed to easily get everywhere we wanted to go. The train day passes (we got the 48 hour one) was very helpful and allowed us to get all around. Thank you, Edo Sakura for a wonderful stay. Your unique hotel and amazing hospitality was very much appreciated!
Great place to enjoy Tokyo”
Set in a quiet residential area, Edo Sakura is an excellent place to stay while visiting Tokyo. We booked one of the tatami rooms and took advantage of the free tea ceremony at the hotel - a very good way to experience more of the Japanese culture. Very clean rooms and facilities, and excellent and friendly staff. There is a good grocery store within walking distance if you want to buy some interesting Japanese snacks. The Asian breakfast is highly recommended - tasty and filling, at a very reasonable price. We would love to return to Edo Sakura some day.
An wonderful oasis in the bustle of Tokyo”
We stayed 5 nights at Edo Sakura on the recommendation of a friend and were we ever glad we did. Although it is located a bit northeast of the center, it is easy access from Nippori or Ueno station by taxi when coming in from Narita on the Skyliner. It is also a short walk to the nearest subway line. The staff in the hotel could not be more pleasant and helpful! We thank, especially, Toshi, Glen and Yoko for thei wonderful attention! The rooms are comfortable, clean and the beds in our wipes tern room were veray comfortable. Coming home to the Edo Sakura after a vigorous day sightseeing was the perfect ending to the day. You must try dinner at the izakaya down the street and around the corner - delicious food served by friendly folks. The only drawback is that smoking is allowed in restaurant and so it is a bit of a crap shoot whether there will be smoke or not - we were lucky! We both highly recommend this hotel without hesitation! I think, reservations are a must!
Excellent little ryokan in Tokyo”
The Edo Sakura is a very pleasant ryokan in Tokyo. Away from Tokyo's hustle and bustle but yet close walk to a subway station that gets you anywhere around town. It is very clean and well maintained, the staff (Yoko and Mikki) were very friendly and helpful. My family stayed in the Japanese style room with tatami mats and slept on futons and wore the ryokan's comfortable yukatas. They hold a complimentary traditional Japanese tea ceremony in their tea room in the lobby for guests to learn about this tradition. It was very informative and enjoyable. Their website is comprehensive with detailed instructions on how to get to it. You cannot go wrong and you will not be disappointed with The Edo Sakura.
I have stayed many places in Tokyo and Edo Sakura is by far one of my favorites. The rooms are a fairly good size for Tokyo. The staff are wonderful! Breakfast at the ryokan is a reasonable 800 yen and very yummy. Free coffee in the morning is a nice perk as well so you don't have to go out to find coffee when you're jet lagged and unfamiliar with the area. Laundry facilities, hot bath, helpful staff, and a lovely place to come home to after a long day of sightseeing in Tokyo have made this my "must stay" whenever I go back. Thank you to everyone at Edo Sakura, you are amazing!!
A Traditional Ryokan in the Heart of Tokyo”
I recently stayed at the Edo Sakura for three nights with several family members and was extremely satisfied with the value for my money. The room was a modern version of a traditional ryokan, which is to say that the main room has tatami mats with a low table during the day and futons at night (not to mention a tokonoma for a hanging scroll and flowers). The staff was exceptionally friendly and spoke better English than one normally finds even in Tokyo. The front lobby has a nice little tea room/garden and they have a free Japanese tea ceremony every day at 10:00 am, which was essentially the same as the tea ceremony that I paid for in Kyoto. They even have laundry for only $5 (wash and dry). All in all, an exceptional hotel in the heart of Tokyo.
Typical Japanese Style Hotel”
This is a typical Japanese style hotel, where you will need to make up your own bed. It is really a pleasant stay with the Edo Sakura - staff are very friendly, helpful and courteous. The internet connection is really fast. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from Iriya station on the subway line, a stop away from Ueno Station. The room is small though clean; bathroom is small, but this is common in all hotels in Tokyo. It is really a enjoyable stay with the Edo Sakura!!!
Great ryokan in great location”
Hidden away in a quiet neighbourhood just a metro station up from Ueno, the Edo Sakura offered a peaceful stay whilst still being close to major sights such as Asakusa. We were enthusiastically greeted on arrival, and appreciated the staff taking the time to introduce the facilities and showing us to our room. We chose a traditional Japanese room, which looked very much so but still came with the modern amenities such as air conditioning and a private bathroom. The room was clean, spacious and well maintained. The Japanese breakfast was great value and delicious, and the free daily tea ceremony was a good way to experience traditional Japanese culture. Would definitely stay here again!
What a wonderful introduction to Japan the lovely Edo Sakura was. From a friendly welcome the evening we checked in to excellent attention from staff throughout our visit, we felt at home here and very comfortable. It's not the most flashy, glitzy part of Tokyo, but we enjoyed seeing families going to school and work each day, visiting the local temple ('never fall'), the beautiful display of cherry blossom in the streets and in Ueno Park, and nearby eateries including Ooriya (hello, guys!). The onsen was lovely to experience as it can be privately booked (great for teens) and the rooms are traditional but modern and functional. Both Western and Japanese breakfast Train station five minutes walk away. Don't miss tea ceremony offered daily in the hotel!
Friendly, comfortable and convenient”
The Edo Sakura is located in a lovely quiet area of old Tokyo. Close to Ueno Park, Asakura and Yanaka. The staff could not be friendlier or more helpful especially in helping newly arrived visitors to Japan. Breakfasts were delicious! The room we had was traditional Japanese style and small but arranged in a way that made it work for us. If we were to visit Tokyo again, we would not think twice about where to stay, it would be back to Edo Sakura. Thanks Yoko and staff.
A quiet and special experience”
Wonderful experience with 3 nights in a traditional hotel, ryokan style in a quiet and local, but still central place in Tokyo, walking distance from the UENO park with museums etc, 3 min walk from collective transport, good and cheap restaurants in the neighbourhood, easy to reach the Narita Airport. They make good breakfast, you vcan experience a traditional tea ceremony etc etc. So nice with this stay after 4 days in a good business hotell in the center of Tokyo. I will go back to Edo Sakura on my next stay in Tokyo.
Amazing ! ”
I think that the best thing that I've done for Tokyo trip was making a reservation with edo sakura! It was just awesome. Every staff members are so kind and hotel was very clean. And also, the Japanese traditional tea time was really satisfied. Everything was perfect for our couple! If I go to Tokyo again I defenitely go to the edo sakura again. Thanks a lot!!!
Fantastic boutique hotel!”
We stayed 4 nights at The Edo Sakura, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food selection wasn't great, but don't let this stop you staying there. There's a Metro station 5 minutes walk away and a few small convenience stores before you get there, and a great little bakery to grab some breakfast if you don't eat at The Edo Sakura. The staff were courteous and spoke great English, and are a compliment to the hotel. The Ueno JR station is about a 20 min walk even with suitcases, and it's flat so no hills to contend with! The neighbourhood is really quiet and unassuming. If you stay anywhere in Tokyo, stay here!
Fabulous little gem”
We really liked the room. While it was relatively small it felt spacious because we had 2 little side tables and reading lights and the window opened onto a little balcony so we could get fresh air and see the sky. The hotel is located in a quiet neighbourhood and the restaurants we went to nearby were excellent! It was also in close proximity to a metro station. The staff at Edo Sakura spoke very good English and were warm, very hospitable and generous. It was also a plus to be able to do our washing very easily. All in all it was a perfect location for our stay in Tokyo!
Highly recommended, would stay again”
During our trip we stayed in 3 lovely hotels, but Edo Sakura was our favourite of them all. It's a little out of the way, but once you've figure out where it is then it is a nice walkable distance from the station. The hotel itself is wonderful in appearance, and so tranquil. They offer a tea ceremony, which we did not have time to take part in, but would do if we returned. They also sell some nice tea cups, and yukata of the same type that they leave in your room (my husband enjoyed wearing his so much that he bought one). Upon arrival we were given a drink and a warm welcome, and our bags were taken to our room for us. The room was wonderful (if what you want is a traditional ryokan!). The staff even told us we could have extra mattresses if we found the traditional beds too hard (we did not need them but appreciated the offer). The room had extras like a fridge and hair dryer, and a few bathroom extras. Breakfast choices were nice, and we enjoyed them.
best nippon lodging”
Perfect place. Ryokan experience. That zen feel is what we desire that is why we booked here. The staff are all friendly and polite. Very warm atmosphere. The place is new. Amazingly clean everywhere in Japan but this place is newly built in 2013 so all the more you will love the clean room and amenities. The best thing is its location.it is close to iriya station and to ueno central station so transportation is no big fuss.In Japan, you need to brace yourself for walking and enjoying the subway trains otherwise take a more expensive cab ride anywhere. But I hardly suggest you do this. Rare does it. We enjoyed Japan and our hotel is best pick from agoda. I will not book the city hotels. I dont like the boxed ambiance of small spaces with crowded streets. Overall, we shall be back at the Edo Sakura. See u soon Yoko. Charming hotel.
Wonderfully clean and quiet”
The Edo Sakura is situated quite close to Ueno Park, and within easy access of public transport and airport skyliner. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, and lovely to walk around. The hotel itself is nicely designed with clean rooms and comfortable beds, great wifi, delicious breakfasts (at additional charge), and Japanese-style baths available (again with a small added fee). We stayed for three nights and enjoyed it there immensely! The hotel is brand new and the staff are wonderfully attentive and friendly. Their English was quite good as well. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for something in a quiet, more residential neighborhood.
Our best experience while in Japan”
The Edo Sakura was like a hidden gem. We traveled with our 9 year old daughter and she was super excited about the Japanese style room, the tea ceremony, and the bathtub. The bath turned out to be super small though. I would say big enough for 1 person; 2 amtight squeeze and 2+1 child... forget it. Anyhow, the rest of the hotel makes up for the small bathtub. The breakfast salmon is the best we have ever tasted. The highlight of the hotel is the super-friendly staff that go out of their way to help you, always with a smile. I had a horrible cough and they made me fresh ginger tea tongo every morning. Thanks so much!
Great experience! The staff are nice and helpful. No any language barrier as the staff could speak fluent English. Tidy Japanese style tatami room though it is a little bit small. Walk around 5 mins to the tokyo metro Iriya station or 10 mins to the JR Uguisudani station. Will be back again to The Edo Sakura definitely! Highly recommend to you guys!!
Everything was good”
I had really good time at the accommodation. Everything was preety good. I can go to Asakusa easily from there. Of course station as well. And I took a private bath, it was so nice. They prepared hot water for me and everything for me. It was just ¥500. I’ll recommend The Edo Sakura to my friends.
