Beautiful hotel with river views and helpful staff”

River views, friendly helpful staff, good location

My wife and I stayed for just one afternoon and night at the Elephant Crossing Hotel as a break in our journey from Vientiane to Luang Prabang. Our room was lovely with a balcony view across the river to the cliffs that Vang Vieng is famous for. We had dinner and the buffet breakfast at the hotel's riverside restaurant. The food was very good at both meals. If we ever come back to Vang Vieng for a longer stay we'll certainly choose to stay at the Elephant Crossing Hotel.

Exceptional”

During my time in Vang Vieng I suffered a bad fall whilst walking. After I had had my injuries seen to at the hospital I returned to the hotel. The staff at the Elephant Crossing Hotel were excellent in their response to my condition. They assisted my wife in arranging on going transport as well as providing assistance with meals. They showed a great deal of concern about my comfort and well being. My wife and I are very appreciative of their assistance and attitude. The hotel itself is very comfortable and well run and I would recommend staying here. The view is spectacular and all the ammenities are modern and well maintained.

Fabulous view!”

Elephant Crossing is a great place to stay in Vang Vieng. The rooms overlooking the river have a superb view of the river and the mountains. The rooms are comfortable, aircon works well and the shower was good. The restaurant is right on the river and the breakfasts were very good. The hotel is in a great location, an easy walk to the town hub. We were lucky enough to be in town for the Boat Racing Festival, what an event! We enjoyed everything about our stay in Vang Vieng, a lovely place to visit.

Decent hotel, probably the best in the area”

Decent and clean rooms, good views at the patio, friendly staff and atmosphere, within walking distance to main pubs and tubing areas

travelled as a group of 3 flashpacking family members. we didn't really have high hopes seeing as how all the estates in the area had variable reviews. in fact my heart sank as our transport pulled into the driveway. thankfully most, if not all my worries were misplaced. first up met with the friendly owner as well as the other hotel staff while checking in and immediately felt at ease. friendly vibes and a great atmosphere go a long way; it was almost as if they were beckoning you to your second home. we roomed in a triple sharing on the third floor up. views were non existant - our windows opened up to an adjacent building. furnishings were basic a tad dated, but functional. beds and linens were otherwise clean and fairly comfortable. our toilet got clogged up after one traveler used it for number 2, which was fixed up promptly after we alerted the staff. location wise, it's within walking distance to the main pub /restaurant street as well as the party island. bike rentals can be had just beside or on the opposite side of the road. roadside stalls selling vang vieng pancakes (kinda like our singaporean/malaysian tissue roti pratas) as well as sandwiches spring up right outside the entrance as well as along the road in the evenings. all in all, probably the best place one can get in vang vieng. note that the silver naga hotel, elephant crossing's sister looked far newer, but was still in various states of construction at the time of our stay

Well trained, helpful staff

while the rooms are adequate, they are consumite with the standard of things in vang vieng. cleanliness could not be faulted (spotless)they beds comfortable and position position. all the balcony rooms, have simply the best, unimpeded views in vang vieng. the staff are four and a half star, courteous, well trained and quick to deliver service, always with a smile. all key staff speak excellent english. the attached riverside restaurant, decked over the bank, serves a variety of lao, thai and european dishes. all well cooked and delivered fresh and promptly. complimentary breakfast is once again fresh and refreshed often. juices tea and coffee in cups or large mugs. for coffee lovers, the lao coffee is a delight, every other coffee you have for the next five days will taste like plain water, yet it is not overpowering on the pallet. it is teh standout for me in laos so far.

Vang Vieng as it should be”

Location on the riverfront, fabulous views, lovely garden and bar

This hotel was definitely the best part of our stay in Vang Vieng. It is a small hotel perfectly placed on the river, with views across to the limestone karsts which make the area so spectacular. The garden, bar and other shared spaces are lovely, comfortable, and relaxed, which we appreciated as rain kept us indoors for quite a few hours. Staff were very helpful in making bookings, providing excellent Lao coffee, and good food for breakfast and dinner. The rest of the town has lost its charm, but I would definitely go back to the Elephant Crossing Hotel.

The Best 3-star hotel in Vang Vieng”

The hotel is situated along the river bank and it has one of the best views of the mountain ranges from room balcony. It is accessible 24x7 and within few meters from restaurants and convenience stores, Room is cozy with good basic amenities. Buffet breakfast was superb with basic selection almost like a 4-5-star hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would want to stay there again when I return, Note: Construction is ongoing at the time of stay. May take months to finish. Noisy from 8am to 5pm. If you plan hotel staycation....not the place to be right now. Otherwise, you need to explore Vang Vieng on those times.

Great Hotel with Friendly Staff”

Big 3 person rooms, free drinking water

As with most hotels in Vang Vieng, it is a bit annoying that there is nothing to separate the shower from the rest of the bathroom. The result is that thte entire floor, toilet--basically the entire bathroom--gets wet when one person takes a shower. Besides that, the staff was friendly and helpful and allowed us to extend our stay an extra night with no hassle at all. The free breakfast is great and the staff is good about extending breakfast hours for latecomers.

Stunning view!”

Best view ever, great breakfast, great location

The view from the room is stunning! It is nice to enjoy the gorgeous sunset in your air-conditioned room while isolated from the heat outside. The hotel is centrally located but you might want to walk a little further away to get better deal for bike renting and groceries. The breakfast was great, both the food and the river view. There are some nice ambience sound (toads and insects) in the evening when you hangout at the lobby. There's a guitar and a piano where you could grab and play whenever you like. It feels a little awkward that you have to take off your shoes before entering the lobby, but that's the culture anyway. The room could be a little dusty because they don't use vacuum cleaner, but that's okay because the dust are barely noticeable. The only thing that's totally unacceptable is that the windows in the bathroom were made of clear glass. It's so easy to peek inside from the corridor! Luckily there's an easy fix: just stick some wet tissue paper on the clear glasses. Not so eco-friendly though. Overall it's a very pleasant stay and we would totally come back to this hotel if we will ever visit Vang Vieng again.

Stunning View from Balcony”

location, friendliness, great room

it was my second visit to vang vieng and my second stay at this hotel. the balcony provides a stunning view over the misty karst mountains across the river. it was surreal. just a few minutes from the hotel, there was a boat station where we can rent to cruise along the nam song river. there is also bike rental right in front of the entrance for usd2 per day. the owner, an australian lady was very friendly. it has a restaurant on a deck facing the river, making the breakfast time a one of a kind experience. and the dogs were lovely frinds!

The view! The view!”

As people have said, please please please do yourself a favour and make sure you ask for a 5th floor room. We chose to squish two single/twin beds together and it was the best decision we made. This place is right on the river and the view is simply breathtaking from bed and from the balcony outside the room. Spend the money and get the best type of room. That view is easily worth whatever you pay for the hotel. Elephant Crossing has a great bar on the river, but the hotel rooms are very basic. Nothing really deluxo about them at all. The accommodation in Vang Vieng is all pretty stock standard though and this place is well and truly worth it when you wake up to one of the world's best views. Beware too - the bars across the river play some seriously loud and dodgy Laos music until 11:30pm, so don't expect a peaceful 10 hour sleep. Mind you, if you're coming to VV and expecting that, you're in the wrong place.

The hotel with the best view in our entire trip across Laos. Location was good, and room was comfy enough for Our overnight stay in Vang Vieng. The property is a bit dated and could use some really good cleaning. The free breakfast was OK just the basic with an omelet station. But the resto Cafe is right by the river which made for quite a relaxing breakfast.

Very Good Hotel, Great Location”

location, room quality, breakfast

Our third floor room was reasonably spacious, attractive, had a comfortable bed and a balcony with a brilliant view of the river and the stunning mountains around Vang Vieng. Oddly, the less expensive rooms on the upper floors have better views than the dearer rooms on the first two floors. The buffet breakfast was good. But both times we had lunch there, they brought me something other than what I ordered. On the first day I ordered a cheese sandwich with shallots. They brought me a cheese sandwich with long sprigs of cilantro -- more stem than leaf. On the second day I ordered a coconut shake and received a pineapple shake. In the first case I suspect they either didn't have shallots or -- despite their being on the menu -- the kitchen staff didn't know what they were. So, as is all too typical in Laos, if they don't have what you asked for they sub something else w/o asking you. In the second instance, I think they just got the order wrong.

very well located”

dining along the river, view, quiet

i have visited elephant crossing in 2009, unfortunately all riverfront view room are booked, only room at the back was available and after visiting one, it wasn't really worth it. this time (2013), i booked in advance for a deluxe room with double bed. upon arrival, we found out that double bed room are only on the lower level. we decided to move to a 2 single bed smaller room anyway even if we already paid more for larger double bed room cause we wanted upper floor room for the view. and it was great, waking up early in the morning (5 o'clock) to see the mist surrounding the mountains, took a lot of pictures. hotel location is very good, not far from the center, in a very quiet setting, dining along the river at candlelight in also very nice, we ended up having all our diner at the hotel, wich we rarely do cause we like to try different places. my friend didn't expect much about vangvieng (i brushed him a picture of the place i saw in 2009), but it ended to be one of the best souvenir (and surprise) of this trip (laos and cambodia) because of the hotel (view, location , surrounding of elephant crossing).

Staff, Location, Location

Got off to a bad start purely because of my own stupidity. On arriving at the reception desk I realized I had left my day pack in the tuk tuk, complete with passport etc etc.. The Duty Manager, Leh, just said "come on then" and we jumped on his motorcycle and within 20 minutes had tracked down the tuk- tuk and retrieved my bag. This was the hallmark of the standard of service at The Elephant Crossing. All the staff I had contact with, were friendly, courteous and very helpful. Combined with the glorious location, right on the river. it made for a very enjoyable stay, which was all too brief. I would certainly recommend to anyone visiting Vang Vieng.

Dream location and views - pleasant stay”

This place has fabulous views of the Nam Song river and the misty mountains beyond. It is a stone's throw away from the market area. Rooms are spacious. The beds with their synthetic duvets were a touch uncomfortable. The restaurant leaves some to be desired. While the breakfast is ample, dinner can be a painful affair since the restaurant gets overrun by tour groups that monopolise the staff's attention. Overall, a good mid-end place far removed from the loud, party-scene of Vang Vieng.
