A tranquil vacation”
When u wake up u face the the greenery of the paddy field with the buffaloes always eating and ruminating. I truly love this place as it is an escape from the city centre but near to beach and pantai cenang.. truly enjoyed the stay

1. Very nice and awesome view 2. Rooms are comfy, spacious and unique 3. Kampung style; suitable for those who really want to experience different lifestyles 4. Worth for pictures Really recommended to stay.
Great experience for children”
The room is clean, staffs are friendly and basic facilities is fine. a bit distance to walk to Cenang street about 10-15 mins, but we are fine with it. My kid is enjoy during the stay. she can enjoy the nature view with the rice field ,buffalo... which she is not seen before... we do enjoy our breakfast in the balcony, such relax...
Beautiful view of Padi field typical Malay kampung ”
Absolutely beautiful view of the rice Padi field with water buffaloes roaming in the field . The down side is the power was down for several hours during my first day stay and it was bloody hot 🥵without any notice , I complained but wax told they are fixing the cable problem . Minor issue Tv does not work properly drying the day . Overall it was a great place !!
The stay is nothing but wonderful”
1) Stay as local 2) Breakfast is great, they serve at your room 3) Try Lunch @ their Restaurant (Laman Padi) 4) Staff is helpful throughout the stay 5) Don't expect swimming pool here when you have the entire beach just 1km walking
Staff pretty friendly :) House outside special, inside is big :) Breakfast is okay, could be better :)
living in a padi field!”
wet had a great stay at Gemalai. quaint chalet in a padi field. The estate is conveniently located in the tourist district of pantai cenang but the chalet is far away from the crowd. we had a great stay.
Comfortable Kampong Stay & Great Choice for the City Family”
We stayed for 2 nights at the 2-storey Teratuk Hut (the middle hut) and surprisingly the stay was very comfortable. No issues at all with insects, barely see any except for some ants in the bamboo bathroom. No issues with the noise from the road, we slept comfortable and beds and pillows were soft and good. Our kids enjoyed the Kampong atmostphere of seeing the Buffaloes,Chickens,Cat and Birds. Morning view of the pink sky was spectacular with the sound of crickets and roosters. Conveniently located walking distance with food stalls which had aromatic Chicken Rice & Phad Thai noodle, supermarket & clinics. Do arrange for a visit to Laman Padi and get a tour of it especially with young children to try rice planting, grating of coconut, rice pounding etc. Breakfast is simple yet nice, tho it's similar for both days. Go for the 2-storey hut if you have children so they have more space to run around and climbing up and down the stairs. Staff were all helpful too.
A great and different experience ”
We had a great experience in Gemalai. Is totally different and one that really worthy. Is really beautiful to wake up in a rice field, with the breakfast in our balcony. The room is amazing, very clean, great decoration with typical furniture, natural bathroom, good amenities. The staff were great. The location is very good, although it look as you are in a country side, is in reality very close to one of the best streets. A lot of commerce, restaurants, change currency houses, beach and shops. The staff were very kind and helpful. The drawbacks: It is very noisy! It is close to a road very busy even during the night, also the rain and wind shakes the house and the wood floor and looks as something is happening. The reception with credit card and other facilities is a little far, although there is free bikes that make the path easier and fast. But when it is raining doesn't help a lot. The signs should be better, we had difficult to call for a uber there. They couldn't find the place. Also for us was a little difficult when we got there to find the reception. The draw
We enjoyed our staying in Gemalai Vilkage”
The hotel is located in a good location, close to many restaurants and duty free shops so can easily access anywhere; Hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. The room is very clean and comfortable with a peaceful atmosphere, great for a holiday getaway; Only one limitation is that the hotel is right by the highway so we had to endure many noises, quite annoyed... Overall, we enjoyed our staying in Gemalai Vilkage
An Unforgettable 'Kampung-Life' Experience”
It was our 2yr old's first experience to Langkawi & we wanted him to experience some 'kampung' life even for a day. So I stumbled upon The Gemalai Village on the net and thought this would be perfect. We wazed ourselves there and ended up entering from apparently the back entrance. So we had to look for the reception which was located in the main building. We were given the chalet which was at the front facing the paddy fields. It was very spacious, clean and surprisingly equipped with modern amenities. Waking up in the morning to the wonderful kampung view was priceless and our boy totally enjoyed making friends with the cat and birds and watching the buffaloes from the veranda. Oh did I mention they sent the breakfast over to the chalet? All in all, highly recommended!
Days in The Gemalai Village: A travel guide like no other”
My 11th time to Langkawi ever since 20 years ago. Been staying from Datay Bay to Cenang Beach and major parts of Langkawi. Visited the paddy field 'Laman Padi' a couple of times even before the creation of the village. It is this little lovely place that captured my heart and worthy of mentioning, known as now The Gemalai Village. A warm welcome at the reception, with early check-in, Wan introduces our address of the week the "Teratak". A double-storey kampung hut with a lovely verandah and the fascinating story behind the only 6 unique traditional huts of Langkawi. Gemalai, means gentle wind whispers across the vast paddy field on a small village. Could really feel they put a lot of effort and passion in maintaining these 6 inspirational masterpiece, truly a labour of love and work of art. Few villagers are stationed within the village for housekeeping and to provide assistance whenever required. Being friendly and good service at the same time. Great team! Nature has its way to greet us a beautiful morning, a rooster alarm clock, sounds of bird chirping, sights of buffalo working, breakfast is delivered to the verandah and guarded by a humble looking kampung cat and a couple of inquisitive roosters. Though the kampung breakfast may be simple to many non-locals. We find that having breakfast served in traditional 'tudung saji' (woven rattan dish cover) is the only moment of the day we could settle down for a peace, tranquillity and quality of time together on a picturesque paddy field. A worthwhile experience we would never forget. As a matter of choice, when one would like to feel the same experience without having to pay the extra for a simple breakfast. Just borrow a 'tudung saji' from the friendly villager to put in the breakfast, they are more than willing to help out. After the breakfast, it's a cycling day in the kampung that has given us a heart full of joy and fun. Overlooking the paddy field and buffalo is known as 'kerbau' locally. Around late af
View was spectacular, with paddy fields surrounding the area and when its raining the place is awesomely beautiful!!! Supermarket nearby, near to chenang beach, shopping area and nightmarket on thurs. Downside is the chalet is slightly expensive and breakfast is limited but we will come again to this chalet!
Overall, the experience of staying in Gemalai is good :) You are surrounded by paddy fields but with the comfort of air conditioner & clean bathroom. What can be improved are wifi speed and security (there is only a locked door between you and outsiders - since the hotel is directly connected to outside road). The feeling of having breakfast with green paddy fields and blue sky is amazing :)
It was awesome!”
Right in middle of the town is an heaven called Gemalai. It's convenient with everything within walking distance be it the beach, the shops and marts, duty free shops or adventure boutiques. It's different! It's an experience! Just the place itself is worth the value. You can spare the breakfast as you have a lot of options nearby but it is still pretty wholesome with a set menu.
great place for relaxation”
Bed is super comfortable. Quiet and serene surrounding, very relaxed just by sitting outside our room looking over the paddy field. Very near the Pantai Cenang street so you can just take a walk there at night to do some shopping.
good location, nice view”
If you are looking for a different experience from your usual life, this is place you may want to consider. This was my second time stayed at this chalet. Previously, I stayed in the single storey hut or they named it as Danau. And the latest one, I stayed in the double storey hut @ teratak. I have a lovely experience stayed here. Yeah, it was a bit noisy since it is near to the main road. but I don't have problem to fall asleep as I was too exhausted exploring Langkawi during the day. But if you are a light sleeper, you might need to take this into consideration. I did not take with the breakfast option as we were in a rush every morning. you also can borrow the bicycle to explore Pantai Cenang or around the Laman Padi itself. The location is good, it is just about 5-10 mins to Cenang Beach. Many restaurants just a walking distance away, also you can try the restaurant at the Laman Padi itself with a view of paddy field. Fastfood restaurant like Mcdonalds, Pizza Hut, Subway just about 1Km away, near the Underwater world and 6D motion.
3 star with a 5 star feel”
Book a stay at the elevated huts - breakfast is served daily at the open area below the huts. Stunning scenery just outside each unit - paddy fields with water buffaloes grazing all day long. The hut was beautifully furnished it truly felt like staying at a 5 star resort. A little noisy at times being next to the main road but the scenery and ambiance more than makes up for it. Reception is located at the other end of the paddy field at the Laman Padi entrance near Cenang beach. Short 10 minute stroll to the beach and Cenang shops. Definitely staying here again the next time we're in Langkawi
Very nice stay in a wooden hut”
The room was very clean and confortable. Breakfast on the ground terrasse is very nice, watching buffalos in the rice field. Good choice of food for breakfast. The road nearby is a bit noisy in the morning. Very good experience overall.
Oppa Kampung Style!”
This was indeed my very first time experiencing a Kampung-style stay/vacation and it was awesome! Loved the setting right smack on a Paddy Field with stilts and chicken running all around plus the buffaloes at the field. Too bad didn't have the time to try the traditional fishing and riding on their complimentary bicycles.
