Very Nice Hotel ”
Wow a very nice Hotel, Very Friendly Staff, Very Good Food, The Food was very Tasty and at very reasonable prices. The Breakfast buffet covered almost all my needs. They did not charge for my 10 year old daughter. I was surprised when I saw the bill. Altogether we got a marvelous deal, all round all four of us were pleased with our stay. My next visit to Kandy I will stay at The Grand Kandyan Hotel for sure.
Great New Hotel in Kandy with Huge Pool”
The Grand Kandyan just opened in October 2014; it's quite noticeable as there are some room that are being constructed. There's a few "rough around the edges" things, like carpet not flush to the wall, stains through the wallpaper in the hallway, etc. However, the room is gorgeous and well functioning, with plenty of cable channels and a huge TV. The balcony is amazing, the views are incredible, and the pool area is fantastic! Huge, bright with sunshine all day as it's on the rooftop, and with views of the mountains in almost 360 degrees. I gave "4" for location, because it's not perfect, but it's a 5 minute walk downhill, there's a bus stop at the bottom which will get you into town easily for less than 10 cents (US) a person. Going home we paid 200 LKR ($1.60 USD) to save the walk uphill. While not perfect, the views provided by the hilltop location more than makes up for it.
We enjoyed the opulence & grandeur of "The Grand Kandyan Hotel". A very "plush" Hotel.”
On arriving Staff were very courteous & attentive. We enjoyed the initial greeting & guidance to our room. Our room was beautiful & plush. The food was excellent, the dining room staff were exceptionally caring & friendly. The reason for this as I am a Sri Lankan expat of 47 years married to a British & even though I was 23+ when I left SL for Australia, my Sinhala was excellent then having passed my GCE (OL) Sinhala paper with a credit pass!! I surprise staff when I talk in Sinhala & that too is a warming gesture which draws the Staff at any Hotel!! We found the position in Kandy excellent - the decor was exceptional & most complimentary to the grandeur of the Hotel. All I request is for Management to maintain a high standard and keep the opulence, ambience and grandeur of the elegant Hotel maintained at the highest levels in order to gain great reviews from Hotel guests. We will "spread the word" in Melbourne, Aust. & tell friends to give your Hotel the due support & patronage.
Great Hotel with a majestetic appearance.”
Really cant say anything bad about the Grand Kandyan. Its a really comfortable deluxe hotel, which makes you feel like the cousin of a queen.
The front desk staff were excellent! Whenever I had a need or a question, they were always willing to help. The room cleaning staff were also helpful, but not too efficient. While they took my towels every day, they did not always give me new ones. I would have also appreciated my room being vacuumed daily. The hotel was beautiful though it would have been nice if the hallways and common areas were air conditioned. The pool was fantastic. The view from my room was gorgeous. The breakfast and dinner buffets were delicious with enough choices to make anyone happy. Room service was also good. All in all a very positive experience. I will definitely stay there the next time I am in Kandy.
Hotel is situated only 20 minutes walk from the central lake in Kandy. Very friendly staff. Nice swimming pool and gym on the rooftop with great view over the city and surrounding..it is also a very Indian and Islamic oriented hotel.
Majestic Hotel in kandy city centre. Good location to stay near shopping n food area. Loved the views from the room n restaurants. Mountain view. Nice pool n gym. Staff were polite n frenly. Should privide toothbrushes n toothpaste as part of toiletries but was given upon request. Good breakfast. One lift only if i am not wrong. Waiting time a little longer.
Loved the hotel, but there was a hot water problem at night”
Loved the hotel, beautiful view overlooking Kandy city, great staff, good food, super clean and great facilities. Just one problem upset me - there was no hot water at night. Called the engineer, he came and tried to fix it. It got better, but not completely. In the morning, water was nice and hot again. Was not sure what happened. But the view from the balcony is breathtaking and breakfast was delicious!
Great views, food and service, Spacious rooms.”
Very attentive staff and food is great. Hotel is very large and airy. The rooms were big and we had great views towards the big Buddha on the hill and some of Kandy city. Big roof top outdoor pools but were a bit cold.
big fancy rooms”
we stayed a night only and wish stayed longer. its just a little bit away if you don't have a car, but you don't go to Kandy to stay in the crowd anyway. the hotel nice nice big rooms with balconies with nice views. recommended
Stay on 3rd Feb 2015”
Our stay at the Grand Kandyan was pleasant. The staff were very nice and the food was very good too. Also the size of the rooms were ideal for us. But the ensuite toilets smelt bad and our A/Cs stopped working in the middle of the night. It couldn't be fixed and as there are no fans it was impossibly hot. Also the ceiling was leaking in places due to the pool being on the rooftop. Would we come and stay again I don't think so. But we will definitely be back to dine in or spend the day. Thank you.
Excellent hotel with great potential”
I stayed at the hotel for only one night. As the hotel is newly opened and still not fully operational, some details are still to be sorted out. For example did the bed-side lamps in the room not work. However, the hotel is beautiful and in an excellent location in Kandy. The staff is very attentive and with further training and development this will be a fantastic hotel to stay at in Kandy. I will certainly come back!
Excellent service and food! ”
The room was clean, with a beautiful view over the mountains and city. The staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough for you. Breakfast was ample and the choices changed daily. I would highly recommend eating at the restaurant in the evening - the food was amazing! Made our very wet, rainy stay in Kandy enjoyable!
Enjoyed the 2 nights here ”
+ Room size - Huge + Nice to control all lights from one panel at your bed side + Decent view + Buffet breakfast with enough options for vegetarian - Paid 360 LKR for just one large battle of water which is ridiculous since this is almost priced 4 times compared to market price. - Need to contact reception for access to mini fridge which seems unnecessarily complicated - Hotel doesn't have tie up with any car transport with tuk tuk being recommended. Quite shocking to see that coming from a 5* hotel - Pizza delivery was not allowed even to lobby. Ended up walking to main gate. - Though hotel location is attractive, it's location isn't really favorable for transport. - Half of the room had wet dampness smell Overall we enjoyed the two nights here with slight inconvenience as stated above..
Great location with a view”
Good hotel overlooking the city. It has a great view that worth staying there itself. Hotel itself is very grand looking if a bit tacking (in my own opinion). But that being said, the facilities were top class and the materials of the hotels like the bed, the carpeting all were really good. Bonus for me was that the price I got was good because of low season and the recent attacks. The hotel is on a hill but quite nearby to the town, great location; just to go uphill, you better get a tuk tuk (which is cheap).
It’s a nice hotel. A little old but still reasonably well kept. The decor is full of gold colored ornaments. But it fits the image the designer intended. Something in line with the rich tradition of Kandy. Service staff are attentive.
Best hotel in Kandy”
This hotel is prob the best hotel in kandy. Better than queen's hotel. Good breakfast spread, nice view, clean room, nice beds. Only location is a bit out. You will need a taxi or your own car to get around kandy.
Beautiful place but lacks facilities ”
Great hotel in a breathtaking setting but lacks facilities in Spa like steam room, sauna. The heating for the outdoor pool wasn't working as well as the jacuzzi. Otherwise, staff were very helpful, food was tasty and diverse, beautiful view from room as well as the sky lounge, and lots of space in the hotel to walk around, sit and have a wonderful time!
Beautiful apartment convenient location”
This is a beautifully presented apartment located centrally in Colombo. All modern conveniences and a wonderful swimming pool complex below make this perfect for younger families. Sadly we didn’t have time to make use of the many amenities available. One thing that we weren’t used to was that power is paid separately based on usage. Also we encountered separate wall switches to turn on and off hot water heating to each bathroom and the kitchen. Otherwise we would happily stay here again. Mary was really welcoming and warm. She made sure we were able to let ourselves into the building lobby without trouble. A great place!
My husband and I have really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It is conveniently located in the middle of the city. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Food, specially the breakfast, is awesome. There is plenty of variety. My favorite is the Dosa Station. I greatly appreciate professionalism and friendliness of Shamini Rajendran. I also thank Priyantha and Azad for their courtesy. Chagala W.
