Wonderful experience and one of the best services I've ever received”

Our families and friends spent our New Year Holidays at the Grand Luang Prabang and it was one of the best experiences we've ever had. Mr. Franck, the general manager was extremely attentive and helpful and answered all the questions we had before the trip. Service was heart-warming, with so many staff at the lobby eager to be at your service. Everyone assisted on arranging everything including vans, tours, dinner, which made our trip memorable. New Year's Eve activities and food were great. Thank u Chef! Hotel is only about 20 mins from the airport and there's a free shuttle van service to and fro hotel into town. Service was beyond our expectation, we've got a small gift in our room on the 31st December as we spent New Years Eve there. It was touching and lovely. Rooms were clean and comfortable with stunning view of the river. You can also book a sunset cruise at the hotel which is a different way to enjoy Luang Prabang. Thanks again for the great experience!

Dear Wendy, It was very nice to have you and your family here at The Grand. We all very appreciate your kindness and love toward our staff and very happy to learn that our good effort has been rewarded. We also received many good feedback about the Event that we held during New Year and decided to continue this event every month to give our guest an unique experience at The Grand. It is also good to mention that we have hired new Chef and created the concierge desk at the lobby, to improve and strengthen our food and service. Last but not least, your message has been forwarded to our staff for their encouragement and we wish to welcome you again in the very near future. Best regards, Wee Kositanont Hotel Manager (Acting)

Stunning hotel”

Beautiful views, breakfast buffet outdoors, large area to walk around, clean/modern rooms, shuttle pick-up and drop-off into main city area

the grand hotel luang prabang was a beautiful place to stay. although we only stayed one night before, we enjoyed our stay very much. the grounds are beautiful. i especially enjoyed watching the sunrise from my patio and we both enjoyed the outdoor breakfast buffet with breathtaking views. the shuttle service into the dining/shopping area of luang prabang was very useful. since this hotel was about a 10 minute drive from the bustling commercial area of luang prabang, it offered of relaxing oasis. however, if you are looking to be within the main commercial area and not have to rely on transportation to this area, i would advise staying in a place other than this hotel.

Sublime hotel. ”

One of my all time favorite hotels. I loved the understated simple elegance everywhere, the absence of so much hotel paraphernalia and noise. I loved the old palace of Prince Phetsarath Ratavongsa, so beautifully turned into a museum to his memory (look for the photos of our hero with Ho Chi Minh and Zhou En Lai, and the fabulous view from his desk up the river). I loved the water buffalo, rescued from the abattoir, and now grown fat on the rich grass of the hotel lawns. And best of all, the tranquil views of the mighty Mekhong. If you want easy access to the bars and restaurants downtown, stay downtown. There are lovely hotels there too. If you want peace, quiet and magnificent scenery, stay at The Grand. A couple of suggestions: (1) the shuttle bus into Luang Prabang could run a little more frequently - we ended up hiring the local tuktuk man, Mr. Ton, more often than not. Good for Mr. Ton, but not so cheap. (2) It’d be good to have more fruit, seeds and nuts for the muesli

BEST hotel ever!!”

My husband and I stayed at The Grand Luang Prabang for 4 nights, and wish we had planned a longer stay. The hotel was amazing ( and we are world travelers). We loved our room, the comfortable bed, the grounds, restaurant, and mostly the staff went out of their way to be sure we had everything we needed and wanted. I was not sure what to expect of the City itself, but we enjoyed walking and exploring all we could in only 4 days. Now it is time to plan a visit back to The Grand Luang Prabang.

Nice Touch”

View of Mekong, spacious rooms, helpful staff, beautiful pool.
Location, breakfast.

My stay at The Grand Hotel in Luang Prabang was an incredible experience. Upon arrival our reservation was not on file and we were immediately upgraded for 2 of our 5 nights to their Executive Mekong Suite for the inconvenience. Rooms were clean and spacious, and I would recommend getting a river view. The Pool was immaculate and the surrounding grounds were beautifully manicured. The location of the Grand is off the beaten path, so if its privacy you're looking for look no further. But if you do enjoy spending time on the main strip be aware that you are going to have to do a lot of travelling. The hotel offers 6 free time designated shuttles, 2 in the morning, afternoon, and evening. All other times require you to pay $2 US per person. The only true con I have was the breakfast. Of all the hotels we stayed at during our SE Asia trip, this one offered the least selection.

Great relaxing hotel on the Mekong River”

Clean rooms, great service, lovely location, great good

after moving from another hotel in luang prabang which did not have room and tried to move us to guesthouses we were over excited to come this the grand. we were nice greeted and the service was great! rooms are really clean and the restaurant is looking down at the mekong river. great prices and lovely food! the hotel is a little while from the city, but on a bike or with a tuk-tuk this didn't bother us at all. as we are young norwegians we experienced a a little unfortunate situation the day before we left with the receptionists who kept calling us and knocking on our door because they wanted us to go out with them, which we said we were not interested in. but anyway we had a great stay and will definitely recommend the hotel!

Indeed a unique experience in Grand Luang Prabang”

- The huge compound of the hotel gives you plenty of space to explore around the area - Wonderful view of the Mekong River at the restaurant - Peaceful and quiet - Slightly further away from town but compensated with shuttle services to town provided by the hotel at designated times - There is a museum in the hotel that you get to visit and spend some time there
- Emergency procedure briefing would be good to be included at registration - Food was nothing extraordinary compared to places in town

Grand Luang Prabang gives you a sense of serenity once you walk in thru the reception. The lanscaping of the hotel is wonderful with greenery and ponds around the guest rooms. You will enjoy spending some time in the hotel for a quiet break and sipping a cup of coffee overlooking the Mekong River. There is also a bar that you can have drinks after dinner with a unique ID and comfortable setting for guests to chat and catch up. The swimming pool is also away from the guests room providing more privacy. Overall the room is comfortable and spacious and definitely a place to find some quietness in your vacation.

We stayed a the Grand Luang Prabang for my Girlfriends Birthday. The staff were all lovely and even decorated our room! The breakfast was everything that you needed and the view was beautiful. The pool was always super clean and very quite so nice to spend a day there. Shuttle service runs frequently enough to get in and out of town (which was one of our favourite in south east asia!) Overall a fab hotel well worth the price.

Great time in Luang Prabang”

*Quiet and peaceful *Beautiful pool *Helpful and friendly staff *Great views from rooms
*Power and water went off occasionally *Shuttle buses good but could have been more regular *Breakfast needed more variety

After working hard in Bangkok for several months, I needed a quiet, relaxing getaway....where I could please myself. The Grand in Luang Prabang provided exactly that.I could have lazy days by the pool or just reading on the balcony and enjoying the view over the Mekong River. When I wanted a day out, staff were very helpful and organised everything...van,tour, guide. The nights in the town were great meeting up with other travellers and trying the local food. I found many bargains at the Night markets and the people were very relaxed and not pushy or pesky. The bonus tour of the Morning markets, after giving sticky rice to the monks, was an eye opener with unusual items for sale. Both the monks and the morning markets were well worth the effort of getting up early. Thank you to the two friendly and informative guides from the hotel.

Blissful stay in an idyllic setting”

The Grand is a fantastic hotel in a serene setting. Located away from the busy heart of Luang Prabang, by the banks of the Mekong River, this is the perfect place to rest, relax and recharge yourself. The sprawling grounds are dotted with gorgeous ponds with lotus plants with tge flowers adding a vibrant pop of colour to the otherwise serene surrounds. The resident Buffaloes add to the charm of the property. The staff members , particularly the restaurant staff are friendly helpful and eager to ensure you have a fabulous experience. Dining in the open air overlooking the Mekong river was a treat for our family as we looked forward to enjoying the views everyday. This hotel is the perfect getaway and I highly reccomend it.

Beauty on the Mekong”

Location, friendly staff

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Grand hotel. The hotel's serene location on the banks of the Mekong, and its extensive well-kept grounds, made it particularly memorable. Apart from that, the rooms were clean and well-maintained and the staff were pleasnt and friendly. We particularly appreciated being met at the airport late in the evening, and the hotel management's assistance in arranging a river trip for us to visit the Pak Ou caves. The hotel's shuttle bus made travel to and from the centre of Luang Prabang easy.

Excellent hotel by the Mekong river! Well maintained with good service, friendly staff, good scenery”

Pro: the ambient and the scenery of the hotel are fabulous! The staff are super helpful and friendly! Good value of money! Con: the location of the hotel is relatively far from the town. If you visit Luang Prabang for the first time, you could stay in the city for two days and finish all the sight seeing tour, only move in to this hotel after you finished all the activity in town. Overall, it is a good place to relax and to chill out and enjoy the slow peaceful pace of Luang Prabang! Remark: remember to book the return trip of shuttle bus, the dukduk from town to hotel cost 50k KIP, better utilize the shuttle :)

The most perfect location in Luang Prabang ”

Beautiful location and amazingly beautiful buildings and decor. Gorgeous view on the mekong and a fantastic garden with heeps of flowers and butterflies.
the hotel it self is ok in price, but extras like Laundry, dinner etc is very expensive. Also the WiFi signal was rather wak, so we had to use it in the lobby.

We loved the Grand hotel. The location, just 4 km outside Luang Prabang was perfect. We enjoyed the sounds of all the animals at night, the beautiful location and decor. We rented some bikes from the hotel and biked to town as well as using the shuttle service. The staff is really nice and will help you with any questions. It is pricy to have laundry done, 1,5 kg was 22USD, and down town the price was only 1USD a 1kg.

Highly Recommended”

The hotel is about 10 minutes away from the downtown, but we did not have any problem using their shuttle mini-van service. The hotel was situated in the quieter area of Luang Prabang and if you are looking for a place where you can rest, this is the place to be. Only downside that I experienced was the wooden bed which makes squeaky noises when you move around. The staffs were friendly and I think staying at this hotel was one of my favorite parts of my trip to Luang Prabang.

great stay”

The grand is a wonderful place to stay and relax while In Luang prabang. The staff could not be nicer and the shuttle is great. Morning breakfast overlooking the mekong River is breathtaking.
none

We have visited Luang prabang many times and have stayed at the Grand twice. It is where we will stay on any future visit to Luang prabang. The location is ideal situated on the Mekong River. The astaff is very accomadating and a pleasure to deal with. Morning breakfast is overlooking the river and a wide array of foods to choose from. The shuttle into town runs frequently from the hotel but a few more runs back to the hotel would be nice. The addition of a pool has been a real plus as well.

Wonderful Hotel”

Great views, beautiful grounds, nice clean rooms

Although it is out of Luang Prabang town, this hotel comes highly recommended for its beautiful location right on the Mekong. The hotel provides regular complimentary shuttle buses therefore location is not an issue. Peaceful, beautiful, great pool, excellent food and service. I would definitely stay at The Grand again.

Incredible "old world" getaway!”

Beautiful settings, Mekong view, old world feeling.

the grand luang praang is a 10 min drive from the city center. situated 5 km downstream the mekong this elegant old hotel with fine lines and well earned wrinkels - offers something unique. my wife and i loved it from first sight. once the xiengkeo palace belonging to nationalist hero prince phetsarath the grand hotel certainly has its history placed. the park-like settings, the grand buildings, the restaurant high above the mekong with views that will make you cry. this place is magical. an old-world feeling of the perfect getaway. never to forget. the rooms: well, years have gone by, and it shows. but everything worked as it should. and we felt comfortable all the way through. staff was kind and polite. great place, just great

There are some places you almost don’t want to recommend too highly...”

...because they are so spectacular, and so unique, that they seem sure to be unavailable if ever we have the occasion to return! This was our second stay at the Grand Luang Prabang, and it was magical. I especially appreciated Southiep and Maggie, who made our stay so warm. Thank you!

A Truly Unique and Wonderful Property!”

Splendid views, fantastic gardens, beautiful pool area.
A property of this caliber should have a fitness center. The lack of in-room safes forces you to put valuables in a safety deposit box. The level of security they follow in that process borders on silly.

In spite of the "cons", I thought the property was great. While the property is a bit distant from Luang Prabang, there is a free shuttle, and you can always opt to pay a nominal fee if you don't want to wait. The pool area was magical to me. Because they haven't shielded it from the adjoining small farm, you get a unique mix of luxury with a reminder of just how far you are from home. Nothing like coming out from a dip and watching some oxen crossing a field. It is a great place, and just needs some refinement. That said, I'm planning to return there.
