Great value for money, staff very helpful. Wifi rather patchy. Be aware that they sometimes have tour buses staying over night, that is when it gets a bit noisy. Overall enjoyed staying here and would stay again.

Make sure the pool is open!”
A major draw of this hotel is the pool - no other facilities are available. Alas, at the time I visited, the pool was closed for the entirety of three days, and no opportunity to cancel was provided. Instead, I was provided toast and some juice as a consolation, which was a nice gesture, but still felt a bit curt given that hotels with pools closer to Prawirotaman are available for half the price.

Friendly staff, terrible wifi and very noisy”
Staff is really good, but the wifi just plainly didn't work at night, and as a consequence, a group of kids was screaming, yelling and running down the hallway constantly. At the risk of sounding like a very old man I'm still going to say this. There you go. It was supremely annoying because the rooms are super noisy.

Would not recommend ”
Very expensive room wich smelled very chemical and bad. In the room I felt very sick like I did not get enough oxigen and started coughing a lot. It was not possible to open a window and when I went to the receptionist they came with another chemical spray for the room. Also the badroom seemed old and smelled like urine. I expected more for that price. Eventually I decided to leave the hotel after 30 mins. I never got back any money from the hotel, even after discussing with the staff they kept saying it was impossible. Sorry to leave a bad review but very disapointed in the service of this quite pricy hotel.

Favourite city in Indonesia”
We are on a backpacking holiday....but couldn't resist upping the budget just a bit to stay in such a luxurious hotel for still a really great price. The location is good, very close to Prawirotaman road with all the restaurants and bars. Feeling a bit templed out from our travels, having seen Angkor Wat, we decided to forego Borobudur and hire a becak for a day (very very cheap) and see the sites in Yogjakarta (ask for Bagio who usually situates himself outside the Grand palace...he was wonderful!). Recommend hiring a guide to see the Taman Sari (water palace) otherwise you won't see what you need to see.....its a lot of twisting alleys. UNESCO are apparently restoring it soon to how it was centuries ago...it's a very interesting place. Although sadly it will mean displacing the 500 inhabitants! As far as restaurants go, everyone heads for Via Via. Although we felt it was not a patch on another restaurant on the other side, before you get to Via Via, name escapes me, but has a black and white chequered sign with lots of colored lanterns. Ask for the Indonesian vegetable and coconut dish! The staff and ambience are wonderful.

Nice hotel, a little out of the way”
I enjoyed the Grand Palace as soon as I walked in. The cheesy "roman" architecture made me smile because it was silly and impressive at the same time. The gardens were very nice and the swimming pool fit in nicely. The hotel itself was a bit too out of the way for us and we switch to the Dafam Fortuna the next night (best place ever!!!) But the Grand Palace had many good qualities. The hotel is mostly used by Indonesian vacationers so there wasn't an English menu, but the staff worked really hard to get us set-up with a delicious meal. The staff was very very nice. We really liked them. The internet was good too! The room was big and well designed, but we couldn't get a double bed. They did push two bed together, but its hard to say how comfortable it was. The one down side was that at 7:00am a whole bunch of children rushed into the pool and were screaming. Probably just a fluke, but it was a little unpleasant way to wake up as most room face the beautiful swimming pool. (Which is really nice, usually)
