3 days midweek”
Had an enjoyable 3 night stay over Feb mid term break. Stayed in twin room on 5th floor so was quiet and comfortable. Breakfast in adjoining bar was excellent. Only negative there is no lounge area for guests just a small space at reception with stools. I was able however to bring a drink through from bar.
On arrival at The Grassmarket Hotel we checked in only to find we had been allocated a double room. I had specifically booked a twin room for my friend and myself. Immediately the receptionist changed our room to a quad room. The receptionist was very friendly, professional and efficient. The room was spotlessly clean. It was a large room with a king size bed and two singles. The bathroom was well equipped with a range of toiletries and selection of soft white towels. Tea and coffee making facilities were available with an excellent choice of coffee and teas, plenty of milk and sugars, bottled water, glasses and mugs. Overall excellent value for money and would definitely recommend to anyone. Will definitely stay here again when I visit Edinburgh.
Very nice receptionist but”
When I got there my colleague wasn't there yet, so I asked the boy if it was a problem. He said that my friend only needed to say my name. But when my friend got there, the receptionist didn't know about it. It takes a 15 minutes for shower to be warm. The desk and cardboard were covered of dust. But when we had to leave early for work, we ask the the receptionist was very kind to us.
Our stay was awesome. Though getting to the room can be truly like a Maze experience. Room is very very small but designed well enough to incorporate all that you need. The Irish pub next to it has amazing food and service. Certainly a MUST to visit. Haggis there is just awesome. The Royal Mile and all the attractions are nearby. Overall i strongly recommend to anyone who wants to stay here.
love Edinburg,nice and unique city”
the room was quite small, other than that the hotel was nice. You have to pay for wifi in the room, but the good thing about it that you can use more than 2 devices for the wifi. breakfast was quite nice also
Nice, clean and big room in Grassmarket area”
The hotel is rather centrally located, within close proximity to the castle and the royal mile (though need to go up and down slope). We like the modern and nice design in the room. The room was clean and large with plenty of walking space. Though the flooring uses budget wood board, rather than typical carpeted flooring, it looks pretty new and comfortable. What we liked best is the huge and well-designed bathroom with the right water pressure and temperature.
Not suitable for families”
The hotel did have everything we needed but was not suitable for families as were right above one of the pubs. More suitable for people wanting to join in with the night life. The music was very loud and went onto after 1am, also the shouting and bad language was dreadful We were all very tired in the morning due to lack of sleep but had to get up early due to tours arranged for the children. Would not recommend for families
Nice hotel and great location ”
Stayed 2 nights in 2 rooms with a family group. Very clean rooms with nice touches like coffee, tea, chocolates, water all included. Modern bathrooms were great. Get a room overlooking the grass market. Fun people watching. A bit noisy at night because of the people outside having fun, but it did not bother us.
Location is fabulous, Grassmarket is a great area
good location clean”
big room, good location
Gig gem in heart of town. Well placed for food, drinks and concerts. ”
Great looking rooms, well situated for those attending gigs nearby or hitting the Tourist sites surrounding Edinburgh Castle. Only drawback was the noise from the laminate floors (understand this is for easy of cleaning). Some lovely quirky touches like the tunnocks teacakes adds to the appeal. Staff are very helpful and were quick to remedy any issues.
Convenient and unconventional”
They find the right balance beetwin the great history of Edinburgh and the comfort of the new generation of hotels. The building is old and in the centre of the town, just perfect to visit all the museum and the castle. And is also convenient with all modern facilities with a welcome young, efficient and smiling
Bad experience - will not recommend or choose this hotel again for next trip”
The hotel have rooms on two separate sections, one section is served by lifts to all floors, whereas the other section is not accessible via lift and have to walk up and down by a narrow staircase. Staff not very helpful and does not help with luggage. Also, would recommend all visitors to pack and lock all your personal items in your luggage every day before leaving the hotel room. Personal items (left on the table) were taken during my stay there. Even though the item taken was not of significant value, but still very surprise that this happened. Overall, rather a negative experience. Will not repeat another stay there for next trip.
near to royal miles and edinburgh castle”
Lovely hotel with friendly staff. The hotel located near Edinburgh castle and royal miles. Walking distance about 5-10 min depending on your walking pace. The city sightseeing bus tour go through this area, thus you can hop on and off to the hotel.
Very quirky spotless hites”
Loved this hotelink. Stephen was at reception when we arrived and couldn't have been more helpful. He offered to book a table at the Witchery restaurant for us, pointed out places of interest and gave us a discount voucher for Biddy Mulligan's next door which entitled us to 15% off our food bill and a free drink. Our room was very spacious with 3 single beds (requested), huge shower, decent drip coffee and the little free chocolate mallows made a very welcoming impression on us three ladies. Only small negative was that the sound-proofed windows could not be opened. Next morning, we were first at the castle, 5 minute'so walk away. We all agreed we would never stay anywhere else in Edinburgh. Thanks again to Stephen.
Excellent and impressive!”
The design of the room and the lobby is creative and eye-catching. The room and shower are clean and well-equipped, even with snacks and different flavours of tea. The facilities in the room are very "user-friendly," by which I mean they are convenient and easy to use. For example, the sink in the shower is big and there are lots of drawers and racks with which guests can easily organise their stuffs. We were allowed to store our luggage free of charge in the hotel for a few days when we were away to the Highlands. I would surely recommend the hotel to others.
Great location close to tourist attractions. Room is very compact but comfy with nice little surprises i.e chocolates in mug. Hotel staff is pleasant and accomodating when we wanted to store our luggage upon checkout to do a quick sightseeing. Hauling our supersized luggage to the room is a challenge though with the stairs and many pass-through doors (our room was on the 2nd flr but only accessible via 1st flr elevator). Overall was a great stay at a unique hotel.
What a gem”
Our stay here was perfect perfect hotel outstanding service from the staff even after we checked out they kept our bags so we could enjoy our last day and booked us a taxi on our return I've stayed in luxury 5* hotels and had much worse service yes this isn't 5* luxury but it sure is 5* perfection of service. our beds were clean and comfortable our room was clean and not too small or too big our view was lovely and we Nad no negatives
Highly Recommended for Location & Cleanliness”
Grassmarket Hotel is a very modern and cozy botique hotel conveniently located near the tourist sites. All the sites are within walking distance so it was very good location-wise. Rooms were a bit small but very clean and just right. Cute designs too.
Cute hotel in an excellent location”
We took the most basic room, and the size was small, but decent. The cool design of the walls, the rain shower and extremely fast internet in the room made up for it. They also provided a hair dryer (of good quality), which is quite rare for boutique hotels I have been to. The room was warm (we stayed in December). The downside that it was a meandering labyrinth to get to our room which was on the second floor. We had to take the lift to the 1st floor, go up some steps, go across a corridor, open a door and climb up 2 flights of stairs to the second floor, open a door, another walkway, another door, and finally our room. Not that great if you have heavy baggage with you. We would have appreciated a fridge in the room, or a central fridge that we could store fresh milk or food that we bought that need refrigeration. Cannot comment on the food as we didnt get the breakfast option.
