A Great Getaway Place!”
Nearest from the Ipoh Train Station, the Happy 8 Retreat @ Old Town is located nearby to all food needs. Strategic location to visit the Miniature Museum and Yasmin At Kong Heng (only open on Saturdays and Sundays), there are no problems when it comes to food on day time at all. While I did chose the Tent Style Cabin, inside is beautiful. The bed on the other hand is a hard mattress. Had a difficult time of sleeping. My girlfriend enjoy staying here as its quite cozy. The staff here is friendly too. They do have a cafe at the back of the retreat to drink and eat. The place decoration is nice and beautiful. I would say this is a place worthy staying for a few nights of sleep if you are on a go for food and relaxation.
A Hidden Gem!”
This is a Hidden Gem in Ipoh old town! The creators of the hotel must be fantastic artist! Every corner of the hotel is instagramable worthy! The room design itself is a joy to use! I am missing this place so much that I don't mind to have another trip to Ipoh just to stay here again! Thank you Happy 8!
Stylish Boutique Hotel with nice staff n location”
Located in the heart of ipoh old town, Happy 8 provide extreme convenience location if you would like to watch the wall art and sample the ipoh delicious food. Plenty of famous restaurant and shop are just around walking distant within 15 minutes. The staff is nice and friendly. They even give you a list of recommended ipoh famous food and the map of wall art, Thumbs up !!! The downside of this hotel may be the room is not so spacious and soundproof (you may hear the noise during night and morning from the cafe area). furthermore, our room hot water supply is not function at all and seem like the hotel staff forget to replace the complimentary item for our room. Anyway, it's still a happy stay at Happy 8 retreat hotel.
Top location and staff”
This a character hotel in a reconverted shophouse in the old town. Location is perfect as it's on the next parallel road to Concubine Lane. We only stayed one night and chose a family with double bunk beds. Comfortable beds and the room had everything we needed for our short stay. Only cons: The room was a little small and my younger boy was badly bitten by mosquitoes (the rest of us were fine). I would have asked for mosquito repellent but it was 1am when my son complained and the reception was closed then. Kevin, who works at Reception and also helps out in the cafe at the back, was very friendly and ever so helpful. He was always asking if everything was okay. He's a real credit to the hotel. Take note: We had trouble finding the hotel and drove past it twice. It's the first shophouse on the left after the horse sculpture, with big wooden doors and a no.8 metal sculpture outside (which we failed to spot).
Amazed by the beautiful design. Feeling at home.”
Happy 8 give out a different experience from staying in odinary hotel. Every room have different design even the bathroom design is so thoughtful. There are 3 happy 8 one in taiping and two in Ipoh. I enjoy the experience staying in happy 8. The only down side is the parking. You have to park at public parking area so make sure you put parking voucher.
a retreat indeed”
loved it the moment i walked in. the staff are friendly, the ambience of the place is warm and welcoming, beautiful interior and very well maintained exterior. clean and very nicely planned layout. It's located in the heart of ipoh old town, and the hotel equips you with a list of activities and food joints within the vicinity if you are new to ipoh. would definitely stay again. only i felt that the price is quite luxurious.
It's ideally located at Jalan market or locally known as second concubine lane (三奶巷), which is one of the key tourist attraction in Ipoh old town. Location is walkable distance from Ipoh railway station (about 10min) As this is located in old town, it's very easy to find the famous eateries such as 芽菜雞， 怡保白咖啡，點心，咖哩面，等等, and it's easy to get around just by foot. You can easily explore the vicinity and expect to spot the famous mural wall painting . The hotel staff are hospitable and friendly that they volunteer to explain to u the nearby attractions and where to have their local street food using their hand drawn map. Im impressed by their 服務周到。I am also impressed by the amazing decor of the boutique hotel. Only drawback is that this hotel did not displayed anything to show name of hotel so it's quite hard to spot this hotel from the street, and also, room is small as I get the corner room with the roof ceiling slanting and even with the mosquito net, I still get bitten by mosquito .
I’m very happy to stay here❤️❤️❤️”
The service during the stay at the hotel was excellent and very satisfactory. The staff named Kevin was very kind and very helpful & friendly throughout the stay. Please ask anything necessary, Kevin will try to help. He is very good. The hotel can tolerate early check-in but depends on the availability. Take a picture there is very beautiful and do not forget to try Durian cake in the cafe below, because it tastes very good and delicious. If the streets of Ipoh town are really close to walking, concubine street is just in front. I highly recommend staying at this hotel to feel the difference of accommodation in terms of rooms, surroundings and service. Thank you to all team hotel. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I’m very happy to stay here.
Beautiful designs, not for old people”
We thoroughly enjoy the cute designs in every room and everything in our room is functional. The strong aircons are extremely appreciated to quench the heat of the day. The location is as strategic as it can be to explore the old and new-old town by foot. Do note that at peak season, you'll have to wait for a while to get in or get out by Grab unless you strategically stationed yourself for easy pickup or dropoff. Some rooms for improvement: 1. These mattresses should really be replaced with something more comfy. My granny complained of skeletal pain after a night there. 2. The stairs were narrow and thus unsuitable for old people. 3. The bathroom floors are too "industrial" for our liking. Too rough, and left sandy "afterwalk" that made us rewash our feet everytime we stepped in.
Satisfactory stay with lots of surprises around the hotel.”
When first walked into the hotel, we were impressed by the welcoming-aesthetic feel of the artistic and cultural design of the building. Surprisingly, every little corner of the hotel/cafe has not failed to convert its "old town" elements into a much elevated modern style. Overall, the place is a great therapeutic getaway as it gives you a comfortable environment to stay in. I particularly fond of the wood-hangers on the wall to save space of a wardrobe. Hope the water heater could work a little better. The room is considerably small but my family and I had enjoyed squeezing into this minimal space of comfort and fun. Breakfast includes the sandwiches and coffee/tea . Location is good as You can find lots of local food with walking distance. If you are photographer you shouldn't hv missed out this venue. We really had a wonderful & memorable stay here.
The hotel is located at the middle od the old town within a walking distance to all the restaurants and local attractions. Breakfast is delicious but have only 4-5 choices. The hotel is beautifully decorated but the room is quite small. The area is quiet in the morning but quite noisy during the early evening upto midnight. The staffs are helpful. The room is clean and the shower os good with high water power. Overall, the hotel is great but a bit too expensive for its room size.
Happy 8 Escape”
The location is fantastic, situated in the middle of old Ipoh town. Plenty of car park during weekends. Have restaurants nearby from low price to premium range to choose from. The hotel has exceeded my expectation and overwhelmingly nice interior design and decorations. It is definitely an eye opener for me. Unfortunately, the water heater is not hot in the morning, and the mattress is too hard for old man like me.
Great little boutique hotel”
A beautiful and charming hotel in Ipoh's historical old town. Loved the decor and the really wonderful staff who were better than many 5 star hotels I have stayed in. Location is great as you can walk to some of the best hawker food in Ipoh and also to the lovely cafes popping up nearby. It is also walking distance from the train station.
Pretty and best location”
Happy 8 is a renovated shophouse and it's quiky and pretty. The renovation is nicely done with recycled timber. It is centrally located in market street in the old town close to all the food places and concubine lane. The room is a bit small but also nicely renovated. The slight issue is the walls r quite thin and u can hear people talking and water running next door. Also u can hear morning prayers at 6 from mosques around the area.
Natural wood crafted decor cozy boutique hotel”
Cozy, unique, back to nature leisure stay kind of boutique hotel comes with 12 differences room type. Nearby walking street of Ipoh old town, with lot of local & traditional foods cum heritage nearby
Very Artsy homestay situated in the heart of Ipoh Town”
This is a very cute and artsy homestay/boutique hotel located in the heart of Ipoh town. This hotel is very clean, well-maintained and unique. It's also very convenient to get to most interesting places in Ipoh. There were a lot of arts performances and showcases just right at the back of the street (it was on a Sunday). Absolutely one-of-a-kind and I would definitely recommend this homestay to anyone visiting to Ipoh.
clean small rooms”
The Happy 8 Retreat is located in Old town of Ipoh. In some old shop houses and converted into a hotel. The hotel is designed with a jungle like theme in a three storey shop house. Furniture are new but with budget hotel quality not worth the price we are paying. We had a room on the top floor in the attic. It was very dark and there is no view. Rooms are very small. There is no lift we had to carry our luggage bags all the way up to top floor with narrow stairs on our own. The only nice part of the hotel is the cafe, its nice to chill out and walking distance to food amenities.
Absolutely recommended ! The price are very affordable compared to the big name (se..ping) ”
Bring nothing just your clothes and camera ! The amenities are all provided hence u can pack light. The ambience is perfect for a retreat, would recommend 100 to everyone. Also we booked the wrong date and manage to get a room on the date we want. Very high tolerance and great owner to provide good informations
Great hotel with nice decoration”
Great location in the old town. The whole building, especially restaurant and lobby. is nicely decorated with woods. Room is small but still acceptable. The hotel is not sound-proven, anything outside can be heard in the room. So better bring a pair of ear-plug if you are sensitive to sounds.
Hotel with lots of character”
Excellent location in the old town, love the use of natural elements in its decor, friendly staff. A great place for a staycation in a unique hotel. Might not be ideal for light sleepers as you could hear cars honking; it's a heritage hotel, after all. Bring insect repellent. Would definitely stay again to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere.
