Above average”
Not a great location, but a sweet hotel. I was picked up from the bus which was unexpected and delightful saprise. Nice staff although the manager was a little quick on the defensive however i think that was the langugue barrier and we sorted it out very quickly and he was very nice and helpful after that. I recomend their tour guide they offer there, a little pricey but very good, friendly and helpful. very worth it, I learnt alot.

Touch luck”
Upon check-in we heard a party going on at the house behind the guest house and were told, that this should be over in the evening. Loud drunken karaoke blasts from check-in at 3pm until 1am. Went to see the manager/owner, whose poor English added extra challenges to the issue, who said that latest 10pm the party should be over. Just after 10pm I went to see him and asked him to go over and bring it to an end -which he did not. Completely cartwheeled we got up next morning and left, no breakfast was tabled and the whole place was a terrible mess with owners kiddies toys and cooking stench from the side kitchen. Taking the serious off-road location, the very bad access road to the property and the inactivity of the manager/owner ensured that we, for one, certainly never will be back ever again. If they would clean up the place the rest would be OK, room was tiny but well appointed and clean.

A reasonable option for Plain of Jars.”
There are so few options in this town and some of the horror stories the other travellers told us made us really happy with our choice. They gave us some wonderful restaurant referrals, brekkie was good and they organised airport transfers for us that turned up early and its a quick walk to the shops. Its basic but its clean and it does the job!

Best Guesthouse in Laos”
My wife and I travelled down from the north staying at several guesthouses on the way. This one stood out in several respects: price ($37 AUD per person including breakfast), mats.. including a bath mat (basic but missing in all the places we stayed), thongs...very cold tiled in the north, a separate shower and toilet. This was a big one because in many other places the area was combined = wet toilet seat and wet feet on nightly toilet break. The area was quiet also. Only downside : It was a bit of a walk to shops...400m. I would definitely stay here again. Great place.

unfriendly owner, friendly staff ”
The guy at the reception did his best but wasn't able to talk with me in English. The owner did but was unfriendly and misused the situation of my short time in town and did an unfair scooter rental.

Nice guesthouse”
The guesthouse is lovely, as are the staff. The room is nicely decorated and very clean, though it was very cold at night (but a big blanket was provided). The guesthouse is in a quiet area and a very tranquil. The breakfast is a bit boring- bread and/or eggs- but you do get orange juice and fruit as well. The location is also possibly not ideal for some- it’s a 15 or so minute walk in to town, we didn’t mind this but some might. The road up to the guesthouse is also very dark at night but fine if you have a torch or phone with a torch. Overall it was a great stay and we would definitely recommend it.

Owner helpful in regards to organizing transport. Basic accommodation, bit dirty and need of a good scrub but did the job for an overnight visit.

Nice place”
The host (whose name I forget) was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good. I think I was the only guest in the hotel both late June 2017 nights that I stayed there. Low season, I guess, though it was lovely.

Too far from the main centre & too dark to walk at night”
I am sorry to said nothing stood out for us. It's very deceiving the name Hillside does not match our expectation at all, the guesthouse is in a very local local area far away from everything, the worst was the gravel uneven untarred dusty road to the guesthouse No street light, I stepped into the dirty muddy water into the ditch lucky I didn't break my leg. The bathroom smell musty not the cleandest but the hot shower is really hot, toilet works well. After all the guest gone to bed the place is Quiet until the rooster call at 3am in the morning but that is like a standard in Laos. The lady owner not so great but he try very hard but they Can't speak or understand English so it's a bit difficult to communicate.

OK place away from the main street”
This hotel was OK, nothing special. Decently clean. The family that runs it is nice, but not especially helpful. There was a loud birthday party in the yard on my first night. The location is a little out of the way for a small town.

Excellent place to stay”
hot shower, breakfast, friendliness
We stayed 2 nights during January and would definitely choose to stay there again. It is as you would expect a simple guesthouse. The owner was very friendly and welcoming and although he didn't speak a lot of English, did his very best to engage with guests and make us feel very welcome. The location is a little way out of town but easily walkable to the main places to eat and only about 300m is on an unpaved track, the rest is on the path by the main road. The breakfast significantly exceeded our expectations. You can buy a beer from the owner and sit on the terrace upstairs and relax after a hot day at the plain of jars. The hot shower was the best we have had in 3 weeks of travelling in Lao including some rather expensive hotels.
