Friendly Downtown Fixture”

Location, history, charm, excellent staff, wonderful deal found on the agoda site for such a classy hotel in a world-class city.
Some areas and some fixtures are beginning to look a little tired, not just vintage. An update to the HVAC system in the guest rooms would be especially welcome.

The Windsor is a warm, friendly, convenient place to stay in the central business district of Melbourne. It has the patina of age (that's a good thing) and the warmth that comes from a place that has been well-used and maintained. The location is great--close to museums, transportation, dining, shopping--right across the street from Parliament! We felt like we were in the heart of the city's life. The rate we got from agoda was unbeatable and the staff was always friendly and accommodating. There are some worn aspects to parts of the hotel, but we learned that a major (and somewhat controversial!) expansion/remodel is planned. I hope that the city and people of Melbourne recognize and welcome this investment by the independent owners of the Windsor Hotel--I always enjoy and appreciate the unique touches found in fine hotels that are not part of a chain.

Elegant Hotel”

Elegant building with noble quality. I am 45 years old and like watching Downton Abbey, Hotel Windsor is the Downton in my heart. Good location: facing to Parliament House across a street; Three minutes walk to St. Patrick's Cathedral; The old Treasure House is one minute walk. Free tram is easy to reach and can take you any where you'd like to go in Melbourne city. There are Cafe shop, restaurants around, I found an exquisite burger shop at a street corner, always keeping a long line waiting outside. I told myself it will be one of must-dos in Melbourne, but I still missed it at last because it has not been open yet when I check out and wish to grab something there. Friendly and helpful working stuff start from the doorman who was with sunshine smile and help me with my luggage, then the receptionist who is so patient、polite and doing his job with passion. It is not hard to have marvelous building, but people who work there is the real spirit of the building. I like Windsor!

Our stay at the Hotel Windsor Melbourne”

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Windsor. When we got off the shuttle bus from the airport on the opposite side of the street to the hotel, one of the Windsor staff came across the road to greet us and wheeled our bags across the road for us. The hotel was huge and spacious. Elegant would be the best word to describe it. The hallways were wide and had beautiful patterned carpets in them. The room had a very comfortable bed in it. The location was perfect. The free tram which does a circuit around Melbourne had a stopping point just across the road from the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to stay in Melbourne.

Wonderful heritage, luxury, hotel in fantastic location ”

I really enjoyed my two night stay at the Windsor. My room (the Traditional Queen) was well appointed and a generous size compared to a modern hotel room, especially the bathroom (shower over bath) which was spacious. I loved the hotel presentation (i.e. iron balustrades and carpet on main stairwell), and the room presented very well, comfortable and cosy. I personally always stay in this end of the Melbourne CBD for access to great restaurants and bars. Staff were friendly and professional. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Stay”

The service was wonderful and the position perfect, walking distance to everything.
Hard to leave.

The Windsor Hotel was the nicest stay I have had in Melbourne, the staff were very profssional and helpful, the hotel is walking distance to everything. We had room service breakfast the first morning and it was wonderful, timely arrival and was so well presented and beautiful. The restaurant is also wonderful, we just had breakfast but it was great to be in such a grand room and have a choice either of continental or English which were both extensive in choice and looked and tasted fantastic. Our room was lovely just what we needed and it was nice to have a bath. It was also very quiet, we had no other guest noises which you can get with a heritage building from time to time. We would love to stay again!

Authentic Victoriana for Travelers through Time”

The Hotel Windsor has by some miracle, thus far, escaped the modern world and retained a feel and charm rarely found in the world these days. The excellent service is friendly, efficient and helpful. I've traveled all the world in search of the real thing, and this hotel is the real thing, from its slightly listing floors to its ornate iron grill elevators, its fuddy duddy dining room, unspoilt by modern intrusions. Here, you will find a true step back in time that helps one not only envision but feel what life was like in this city of Victorian wonders. Most hotels these days have been ruined by shortsighted caretakers who mutilate their historic treasures with unnecessary modern intrusion that break the spell. The Hotel Windsor casts a powerful spell.
Minor things... the windows don't open and the view was nil. The lobby should be filled with the heavy Victorian furnishings like fern stands, and cloissonee vases but it is a bit sparse.

The most terrible thing is that there is a proposal to mutilate the hotel and transform it into a 36 story glass curtained monstrosity, utterly decimating its charms, making it into another generic soul-less hotel found anywhere, especially Sydney, which is full of ugly glass hotels, and which is why I choose to come to Melbourne and not soul-less Sydney. Unfortunately, those who hold the fate of the Hotel Windsor know not what they do. What they really should be doing is gaurding their one of a kind treasure. Instead, they are about to kill it. So glad I stayed there in all its historic glory. When its a glass walled monster, I'll never step foot in it again. I'll have to avert my eyes.

Great place for a getaway”

A friend and I took the opportunity in (what we thought was) the Covid lull to spend New Years in Melbourne and decided to stay at the Windsor. This grand old dame is a little dated and the facilities are limited at the moment, e.g.: the bar was closed; however, the location of the hotel, the generosity of the room size and the lovely, helpful, delightful staff ensured we had a wonderful three days. I would highly recommend staying at the Windsor.

The Hotel Windsor”

So wonderful to get out of the taxi and the doorman uses your name to welcome you to the hotel. I loved it. Bed very comfortable and room amazingly quiet. The position was great to shop at the Boxing Day sales!
I walked into the hotel at 1am and didn't see a person. I made sure I locked my door.

The level of service from the outset was outstanding. I've stayed in many hotels where the staff don't speak. Everybody at the Windors is really friendly and most staff will use your name. For a quiet classy spot in the city I think the Windsor is hard to go past. Its also in close proximity to the major sporting arenas sush as The MCG, The Rod Laver Arena etc. I found the rate, through Agoda, made staying at The Windsor very affordable. I would certainly recommend staying there when in Melbourne.

Great hotel in a grea location”

The absolutely best location for a tourist hotel in Melbourne. Spacious rooms, well-appointed.
inside rooms are claustrophobic.

When we first arrive we were assigned to a room that had frosted windows opening to building wall. We requested and were given a room with a street view and it was sensational. The location of the hotel is within one block of a tram stop and train station, enabling hotel guests full access to Melbourne's outstanding public transport system. The hotel's Cricketers Bar is probably the best watering hole in the city, We would surely stay at the Windsor on our next visit to Melbourne,

The Hotel Windsor, Melbourne”

Like a "Stately Lady" amongst modern, brash competitors
None

We (my husband & I) chose this hotel from the web as we were looking for something that had character and wanted the Hotel to be part of the holiday. It turned out that it (The Windsor) was the complete package and was perfect. No glossy affectations, no "look at me", just plain, honest, old style genuine hospitality, greatly missing in todays world. On of our children has moved to Melbourne so we will be back and would recomend it to anyone. Dan & Jintie Toovey

Grand old hotel packed with charm and in a brilliant location. ”

Cricketers bar too blokey. Just a pub. There is no elegant cocktail area where guests can entertain friends. Fitness centre has old equipment which does not function properly. Most of the weights missing. Needs a facelift and new fit out. Rooms comfortable with old world charm but air con not easy to adjust. Very helpful staff and good breakfast. Suspect the owners are letting the hotel run down to have leverage for a refurbish. Hopefully they will not be allowed to destroy a grand Melbourne icon. What is needed is more cosmetic than structural. Loved staying at Windsor and woul certainly book there again.

Great historical hotel! Perfect location!”

My friend and I stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Windsor in April 2019. We booked a room with 2 beds & were surprised when we got 2 queen beds that were amazing- just the right firmness, 4 large wonderful pillows and incredible linens! The room was huge with high ceilings, a walk in closet & beautiful marble bathroom. Everything was very clean and comfy. So very happy. The location was great as well. Right in the CBD with the free tram & other great transportation options nearby. We were also within walking distance of wonderful restaurants, Queen Victoria Market and everything the city had to offer. We didn’t partake of the bar or restaurants, so I can’t comment about those. If I had one suggestion for the hotel, it would be that the lobby could use a little work. Everyone needs a littler makeover once in a while, but the flowers were spectacular!

Loved staying at the Windsor, elegant generous spaces, warmly welcoming and helpful staff. Great location for visiting Melbourne for a show at her Majesty's or Princess Theatres, just a short walk to lots of great eateries in Little Bourke, or Little Collins, like Longrain, Punch Bar, too many to mention. Parking the car was taken care of by staff for a cost of $55 per day. It's all too easy to categorise The Windsor as 'olde worlde'. But that's doing it an injustice. Class is difficult to replicate but The Windsor achieves what others emulate or espouse. An institution in Melbourne that it is a privilege to enjoy. May it be around for another 100 or so years.

You will feel just like family ”

Dinner and Breakfast served in "111 Spring St" the restaurant was fantastic, Concierge was truly wonderful best assistance and service I think I have received friendly and helpful. Bed was great.
If you are looking for Chrome Glass and LCD TV's this is not the place. Room could have done with a little more update.

If your looking for classic old style service and style with etiquette and sophistication this is it ... but if you are an average "Joe" who is looking for something special you wont be made feel out of place. We were made to feel like part of the "Windsor" family from the moment we arrived. Breakfast was outstanding, the service from all members of staff was flawless especially the concierge/door staff whom for two people that had never been to Melbourne before and asked a lot of questions were so helpful, patient, friendly and knowledgeable . I cannot say enough about what a lovely stay we had ...

Fabulous! Really excellent! ”

We got a very special deal for Hotel Windsor, so our room was small with no view, and that was fine. We found that every member of staff we had contact with was charming, helpful, and kind. We had breakfast in the dining room for all 3 mornings, and it was excellent with a good choice of best quality food, peaceful background music, newspapers, fine china, and attentive staff. We had the afternoon tea and again it was a very happy experience. The only thing we missed was that the restaurant is not open for dinner. Apart from that it was faultless. Thank you Hotel Windsor.

Comfort in a very convenient location ”

Location, history, service

Hotel location is well-connected to many public transportation lines and in walking distance to many other cafes and restaurants. Hotel interior is comfortable, though I was perhaps a little bit surprised that for a high end hotel in a city as global as Melbourne, there was no bath salt that came with the big bath tub in the bathroom (toiletries provided were rather basic and dodgy in qality), and that the wifi was not free (in fact, quite pricey!). Other than these two minor observations, this hotel is still a good bet for comfort and convenience if you are in the mood to splurge a little bit on your stay in Melbourne.

Beautiful hotel. Great location. Friendly staff.”

Historic building, gorgeous fittings, friendly service, great location

it's located in melbourne cbd. we walked everywhere within cbd. there are trams and train stations nearby. afternoon tea at this hotel is recommended. cricket bar located within the hotel looked really good, but it is closed on sunday, so we couldn't go. all the fittings in the room and the actual hotel were gorgeous. we loved pianists playing in the reception area. fitness facility was a little diappointing.
