Nice hotel BUT some serious issues
I have stayed at the Imperial before and have loved it but this time I found the experience lacking in several ways. First, my room was very musty and every time I entered the room I smelled that musty smell, something that is not really acceptable in a fancy 5 star hotel. Second, the pool is beautiful but you can smell sewage when you are hanging out there, which is not at all pleasant. And, when I ordered lunch at the pool, I noticed that the salad arrived with a big piece of hair on it, which ruined my appetite. After I immediately returned it, they tried to charge me for the drink I ordered with the meal, which surprised me. One would have thought that they would have comped that drink given the salad incident. In the end, I had to speak to the pool manager for them to comp the drink. Not good service and a negative experience. Third, I stayed at 5 hotels in India and the Imperial was the only one where I had an issue on my final bill. They tried to bill me for a $24 tip at the spa even though the spa receipt clearly showed them to be incorrect. Instead of acknowledging their mistake and apologizing, which would have been fine, they tried to repeatedly defend it even though the bill showed them to be clearly incorrect. Again, not good service for a 5 star+ hotel. On the positive, I had a good experience at the spa (although it was very expensive). I also liked the afternoon tea. Overall though, I preferred Claridges, which is usually about half the price but has far better service and my room was much larger and much nicer than the Imperial. Claridges also has a great, reasonably priced hair salon, Silhouette, where I got a great haircut.

Exceptional
While this is an amazing historic hotel, the staff at the Italian restaurant were in such a hurry to get us out. We came in about 40 minutes prior to closing and were the only ones in the restaurant. The waiter paced behind our table the whole time and when he handed us the menus, he just stood there tapping his fingers one his notepad. I had to ask him to give us a minute. We ended up boxing our food and taking it to the room, in addition to canceling dessert because we felt uncomfortable

Opulent and historic...an experience in itself
This is the second time I have stayed in the Imperial and it is well worth the money. This hotel oozes history - it is where Nehru used to meet Gandhi to talk about India's independence. The rooms are superb, breakfast amazing, and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Love this place!

Stung on taxes regarding second occupancy, regardless that the room had been paid for in advance
We were upgraded to a brilliant room and the hotel was magnificent! The staff at reception were arrogant. However the staff at the bar were brilliant !!

Exceptional
Well located in Old Delhi's Connaught Circle; numerous shops in surrounding area; excellent restaurants and bars in the hotel. Staff very helpful, for example rail tickets, tourist sites, etc. There are less expensive hotels in the area, but Imperial is worth the added costs because of its overall ambience, décor, and service.

Fantastic
We had a lovely two night stay at the Imperial in Delhi. We had a beautiful room with flawless service. We had dinner at two restaurants--San Gimignano and the Spice Route. Both were exceptional and very good value. Would stay here again in a heart beat.
